A very light golden color with a white one finger head of relatively thin foam. Beer was fairly carbonated. Aroma was light: grass and a hint of hops if you strained hard enough. Taste was thin, watery and carbonated, a hint of biting hops. I'd say slightly better than a normal macro.... (288 characters)

A: Looks extremely pale, poured almost looking like water. Head faded quickly, with some lacing.

S: Sweet smell, little beyond the malts.

T: Eh, tastes like a better version of Budlight. Nothing great at all, pretty big strike to me.

M: Very thin, no real substance to it.

D: About as drinkable, as a Budlight. I hope i can finish it.

Overall: I am not a big fan of these "Pale Lagers" and maybe that' because the only ones I drink are the Macro brews. So if there are some good Pale Lagers out there, then I am just not aware of them. But this beer is a slightly better version that any of the main Macro brews. If you only like macro brews, then you can drink this to make yourself look cultured. (703 characters)

This beer pours light golden, with light head, and had average carbonation. It has little to no aroma, its has the tastes of fruits, hops, vegetables, and goes down fairly easy. It finishes dirty, leaves the mouth dry, and is no better than the average domestic pale lager. (273 characters)

Pale Lager I guess! A very pale, clear looking golden color. A pretty good sized head that did fizzle away pretty quickly but left some on top. The aroma is grassy, grainy, floral and a little fruity and not bad. This however isn't a very good tasting beer. First of all the mouthfeel is thin and watery leaving me wanting a lot more. The flavor consists of mild hops but more grainy and grassy and an all around typical mass marketed below average lager taste. Except it wasn't that cheap. I bought a single at a local store and compare to the other prices/quality they had this was a horrible deal. I think I may at least get to cross off another country. I'll pound one if someone gives it to me but I won't be buying this again. (732 characters)

Pours an ever-so-slightly green yellow (I even consulted some others in the room to make sure I hadn't lost my mind). The head poured nicely despite having a very-soapy appearance, but dissapated very quickly. It smells like my bottled was slightly skunked.

The taste is very thin and watered-down. The mouthfeel is oddly slick. I detect a slight copper and a little bit of hops shining through. Not much of an aftertaste, but on the other hand, not much taste either.

There's just something off about this beer. I can't say I'd ever have it again or recommend it. Far too expensive at the LCBO for this--$2.85 Canadian per bottle. (637 characters)

This is Kenya's attempt at the american (ie Budweiser) lager. The beer pours a nice golden color with a large head. The head disappates quickly but a lace remains for the entire glass. The malty taste was a little dry which sticks in your mouth after you swallow. Leaves the tongue dry and slightly metallic. A dry lager, not undrinkable but could use some work. (362 characters)

as our Native African friends conquer the world, their brew (and other food items) seem to follow them .... honestly, I am not an enthousiast of African cuisine (actually one of the 3 most horrible culinary experience was in a Nigerian restaurant in London), and as a fact I will neither become an enthousiast of African brews ... this one smells and tastes rather odd: grenadine paired with motor oil and valerian ... at least the label is quite interesting (458 characters)

Pale, straw beer, chill hazy with heavy lacy head.

Smell of malt and buttered corn. Not much else.

Unique butter diacetyl and corn sweetness upfront, almost like a butterscotch. Faintly perceptible hop character, with almost enough bitterness to cut the malt sweetness, leaving a slight "cloy" on the palate.

Thin, with a very fizzy character.

Reminds me of Red Stripe with the heavy "sweet buttered corn" flavor, but not as good. (437 characters)

I tried this beer on September 13, 2007 at 'Smokeless Joe' in Toronto. The beer poured a translucent gold with a thin white head. The aroma was grainy with a hint of malt and some yeast. The mouthfeel was thin with high carbonation. The taste was grassy as with a lot of macro style lagers (307 characters)

Clear beer-like appearance. Almost water-like, maybe a shade lighter than water, sort of like pee when you've had a lot of water to drink, with about as much head.

The nose is butter and corn. Sweet, slick, curiously cloying for such a light beer.

Sweet and slick, the diacetyl is somewhat overbearing here. Buttery with a smattering of cooked vegetables and frozen white corn. Almost crisp, but the buttery slickness really impairs both the flavor and texture. Finishes sweet, grainy, corny. This is actually quite bad. (522 characters)

Blind #8- 12oz bottle

A: Light straw ale with brilliant clarity, when held to my pc screen, pretty sure the pixels are amplified for visual assessment. Single finger of white foam falls quickly to a sheet of the same with a central cap. the Collar hugs the glass, but doesn’t keep around - no lacing. (3)

S: Grain, minerals. Reminds me of a Picpoul wine. Very French/mineral and chemical smells. Hints of banana and yeast. Wouldn’t call this complex. (2)

T: Watered down vitamin water with carbonation. When I say vitamin water, I’m talking a One-A-Day pill, crushed and mixed into a solute, then carbonated. Hint of butter. (2)

M: light and still sticky - seems to stick to my palate and dries it to an extent. Highly carbonated. (2)

O: Not really feeling this beer. (2)

Guess: lager of some kind. Cheap.
Reveal: Tusker lager from Kenya.

Not surprised. (866 characters)

Pale yellow with a rough white head. Nothing special to look at. Gives up a little bit of lace as you go.

Sharp and bitter, quite watery in nature. Nothing special comes out of the glass at you by way of taste or aroma. A slightly sweet lemony smell can be detected early on. Gives way to bread or grain.

Unmemorable.

Clear light gold with a one finger white head with decent retention and lacing. The aroma has cooked corn and is somewhat sour and unpleasant.

The taste has a combination of sweetness from the malt and a bit of the sourness I picked up in the aroma. Doesn't seem to come together very well.

Light bodied with average carbonation. Nothing special here, just a typical Adjunct Lager. I am glad I had a chance to try this. Too bad the beer wasn't better. (455 characters)

Freshness date on Label says bottled 19 aug. 2010.
elephant head image on bottle cap. At least he looks happy.

I've only just popped the cap and this beer is giving me a headache from the whatever is wafting out...this smells malty and dirty.

pours a pale golden with small white head. sticky lacing.

smelling mostly malt..corn. a bit of hops.

cardboard. crisp dry and thin. and more cardboard.

chalky, sandy residue.
I'm guessing this stuff needs to be sampled fresh and then it would be a passable light lager. but this bottle is awful (544 characters)

Pours light clear gold with a big white head. Aroma is cereal, sweet breads, corn. Very muted. Flavor is mainly corny sweetness with pilsener-ish grains, some hay and zero hops. Sticky and not refreshing. About what I was expecting from a Kenya pale lager... (258 characters)

A - Really light gold body with a thin white head. Admittedly it is attractive for a light beer. Carbonation is steady and balanced.

S - Starch... corn and water maybe.

T - Light corn, water, and it might have been poured over some barley before being filtered and bottled. Not impressed at all.

M - Water. Filtered water. All the mouthfeel that could be associated with a filtered water.

D - If this is what Africa has to offer as a "Premium Quality Lager" I'll import my own if I visit. (492 characters)

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Reviewed live. No best-by date visible.

A- Half a finger white head. Soapy looking with large, glassy bubbles. Fades quickly. Some spotty lacing. Crystal clear pale-golden color. Looks like a Budweiser.

S- Sour malts and soapiness. Actually surprisingly fruity and sour. Not sure if that is intentional or not. Light fruits and light lager smell.

T- Funky malts, gave me the goosebumps. Extremely watery taste, and what is beyond the water is some sour mash kind of maltiness. Definitely more flavorful than some American lagers, but not by much.

M- Carbonated water.

O- For as bad the score I'm giving it, it is actually fairly drinkable. It would be hard not to be considering it is so watery. (748 characters)

The second of two Tusker beers sampled for review. 500ml brown bottle with ingredients listed, including corn syrup and sugar. Two months to go before the best before date.

Clear gold with an energetic white head as expected. Not much aroma, a little grassiness. Meek on taste, with mild balance of malt and hops and a little corny sweetness, which becomes more apparent as the beer warms up. Corn butter at the finish.

I hope it doesn't give me a headache. (463 characters)

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a very pale yellow color, with a short white head that fades quickly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of corn and other adjuncts, light malts and a very faint touch of hops.

T: The taste starts with your typical macro adjunct sweetness with flavors of corn and grain. There's a very thin malt character and an almost insignificant hops presence. However, there is a little bit more balance here than in other beer in the style. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: A little smooth with very little crispness, light body, medium-to-high carbonation, finish is clean.

D: Not very flavorful, but goes down ok, not filling at all, mild kick, it's a typical beer for the style but not one that I'd want to drink again if I had too many other choices. (843 characters)

12oz bottle. Pours pale yellow with a small short lived white head. Aroma and taste of cereal and grains, light malty notes and light hops bitterness. Light body with soda like carbonation and watery mouth feel. Finish is cereal, grains sweet light bitterness ending with a watery, bland and metalic flavor. Overall not much to say, did not like this. Could not finish drinking this beer. Would not reccomend. (409 characters)

500ml bottle 4,2% Abv
Served cold in a snifter.

Thanks to my friend Jon for bringing this back from his trip to climb Kilimanjaro.

Appearance: Pretty standard for a lager. Pale gold with a large, white, fast dissipating head.

Smell: Touch of pale malt, cooked vegetables and metallic notes. Nothing in the way of hops. Certainly not good, but actually not as bad as most African lager.

Taste: " but actually not as bad as most African lager" - I take that back. Horrid - watery, corn, vegetables, metallic...

Mouthfeel: Light, watery and over carbonated. So, pretty average for the style.

Overall: If I had just climbed Kilimanjaro, I could drink it. Sitting in a comfortable chair in my room - NO! (709 characters)

500ml bottle poured in a dimpled mug.

Clear, pale straw yellow. Big 1/2 inch white head on the pour settles in to a thin cap.

Aroma is grassy/herbal hops with a light malt sweetness in the background. Reminds me more of a Euro Lager than a Macro Lager.

Very little flavour. Mild floral hops and petrol notes at the start and a hint of sweetness at the finish. Zero aftertaste. Is this beer? or coloured carbonated water?

Amazingly thin and watery mouthfeel with minimal carbonation. Kind of like mineral water, only less bubbly.

Wow. What a lot of nothing. The aroma totally lies to you. I was expecting atleast some grassy hops on the palate, but nothing. Goes down like nothing, so drinkability should be good, but who'd want to drink another one of these? (773 characters)

For as much as this beer cost I was expecting a lot more. I've been disappointed by imports in the past but heard good things about this beer. For the style its not horrible but if I'm going to drink a bland macro lager, I'll stick with a U.S. product like Rolling Rock, Iron City, Straub, or Yuengling Premium. It was however my first African beer, most likely not the last. (375 characters)
