Decent start to the head--leaves some spotty lace. Clear, almost like water. Pale yellow color.

Okay, the smell reminds me of pancakes--no syrup, no berries, just plain ordinary pancakes. There's a slight skunkiness to the beer. Slightly sweet, lots of corn. Bland.

So, the blandness continues in the taste. Is it Bud, is it Miller? It could be. Thin bodied and highly carbonated. Where's the hop? The brewer must have waved it over the kettle without letting fall in. If you like corn in your beer, this should serve you well.

Reviewed on 7/26/08. Bottle. Pours a light yellow with a white head. Aroma of light fruits, wheat. Flavor of stale wheat. A slightly (very slightly) better version of Heineken. Blech.

This beer poured a transparent yellow with a foamy white head.

It smelled like butter and corn. It was rather pungent and off putting.

The taste wasn't quite as bad as the smell however it was still pretty bad. It tasted of corn and was pretty sweet.

In the mouth it felt sloppy not crisp at all like a larger should be.

Overall this was a terrible larger, it was undrinkable and the smell was truely awful. Worst beer I've ever had.

Poured from bottle into lager glass, served around 45 degrees.

Poured very pale yellow w/ limited head. Aroma was spice, pine and a bit skunky. Taste had citrus, ginger, & alcohol notes. Mouthfeel was very thin and watery, typical of the style. Drinkability is limited, maybe on hot day someone might enjoy one.

Overall a bad beer. It's balanced but just has a lack of overall quality. NOT recommended.

12 oz. brown bottle will a small oval label of an elephant in front of a yellow back drop. Along with all the mandatory US information, the back label has 2 seperate paragraphs. The first one talks about why this beer is named Tusker. It's named after the elephant that killed one of the brewery's owners. How morbid! The second one talks about where all the ingredients came from. The neck label has a manufactured date and a best before date. Mine was made on 31 Jan 08 and has a best before date of 31 Jan 09.

When poured into a Stoudt's pint glass, this African beer was a clear and I mean clear pale lemon yellow. It was so pale that it almost looked white in color. The head of foam was a bunch of white fizzy bubbles that quickly fizzled away into a handful of white fizzy rings and one big blot of fizzy bubbles on top. There was no trace of lace anywhere.

The aroma was strong, but it was strong with malted corn, malted rice, a hint of apple juice, and a pinch of stale bitter hops. It was an insult to my sense of smell. I'm glad that it didn't smell like a skunk.

Taste? I wish! The taste was all carbonation with sweet malted corn, malted rice, spring water, and a tiny touch of bitter floral hops.If there was any malt in here, the malted grains quickly covered it up. Like in the aroma, I'glad there was any skunk in here.

The mouthfeel was light with a watery aftertaste of spring water and malted rice. I'm glad that this aftertaste didn't stick around. How could it? It was just water with a little grain taste added to it.

I surely hope that not all African beers taste like this one? It was just a cheap watery beer with a small taste of malted grains. That's all folks for this beer. If you find $2 on the street and you want to buy a beer with it, then you might want to buy it.

The flight attendant from Bill Clinton's plane gave this to my friend wh is a baggage handler at YVR.

A-Not quite sure. It was kinda yellow pee colour. Drank it out of the can.

S-This beer smells pretty much like Bud. Kind of grainy in aroma. I couldn't detect any hop aroma.

T-I almost gagged when this touched my tongue. To me, it was worse than Budweiser or Molson Canadian. Tasted pretty much like it smelled. Grainy and wattery. Very little bitterness.

M-Very fizzy. Pretty much a fizzy piss beer if I've ever tasted one.

D-I don't think I have to say I struggled to finish this. It was so god aweful that it warmed up to room temp before I was able to choke it down. The can lasted me about 2 hours. Just gross.

Overall-I really hope Bill Clinton has better taste in beer than this. Perhaps I had a bad batch but I am not going to be buying it anytime soon to find out. Everyone who had one at the party just thought it was gross.

A: Pale yellow. Rolling active carbonation. Descent white bubbly head with slightly above average.

S/T: I can not get over how much this beer smells and tastes like buttered popcorn. I think this is diacetyl in the beer. I am not sure if this is intended but it is not disguised by any amount of malt or hop character. If you read the back of this bottle, you might be expecting a traditional lager in the German style and this stuff makes Bud taste better.

M: Light, crisp, highly carbonated. Spot on for the macro style.

D: I hope to try more beers from the African continent. I am certain there are better beers than this for the people to enjoy.

500ml bottle poured in a dimpled mug.

Clear, pale straw yellow. Big 1/2 inch white head on the pour settles in to a thin cap.

Aroma is grassy/herbal hops with a light malt sweetness in the background. Reminds me more of a Euro Lager than a Macro Lager.

Very little flavour. Mild floral hops and petrol notes at the start and a hint of sweetness at the finish. Zero aftertaste. Is this beer? or coloured carbonated water?

Amazingly thin and watery mouthfeel with minimal carbonation. Kind of like mineral water, only less bubbly.

Wow. What a lot of nothing. The aroma totally lies to you. I was expecting atleast some grassy hops on the palate, but nothing. Goes down like nothing, so drinkability should be good, but who'd want to drink another one of these?

Wasn't expecting much. Thin, light, some light dry grassy hops, boring and bland, but easy to drink, generally inofensive, but entirely bland and pretty boring in the end, so crisp refreshing notes in the finish, wouldn't drink it again, unless i went to Kenya or something..

Got this 500ml bottle on clearance (how often do beers go on "clearance"? That should tell you something right there) at Potomac Wine & Spirits in MD for $1.

And here we go...

Frighteningly clear. As it poured out of the bottle into my glass, i could only see the faintest hint of coloration to the beer. Of course, the coloration I speak of is the usual pale straw/urine hue that american macro lagers posess.

The smell, or should I say stench, was overwhelming. I uncapped the beer and it punched me in the face, before even being poured. Tusker smells of yard waste clippings. Quite powerful and offensive.
Completely unholy. No beer should ever smell like this.

The taste is one of the stronger points. Of course it tastes like all other light macro filth, but there are a few good points. Tusker lager is not obscenely carbonated, which is good. None of that "burning sensation" on the tongue that Coors gives you. And if you enjoy munching on freshly cut grass, or newly baled hay (who doesn't?), this beer will taste very familiar to you.

The mouthfeel is similar to water, if water had a mildly unpleasant aftertaste and made you belch.

If you're going to mow your lawn, and you can buy this beer for $1 like I did, then you might as well chug a Tusker after you are done mowing. It will blend right in with all the other aromas and tastes in your mouth.

I would drink this beer if I was on safari in Africa, but not otherwise. And what is up with the label/name? Is this the preferred beer of poachers everywhere? Light and clear gold color with a medium thin white head. No lacing and mild effervescence. Weak grass and hops aroma with a hint of skunk. Light bodied and highly carbonated, the flavor is very mild and unremarkable. Crisp finish with a watery aftertaste.

For as much as this beer cost I was expecting a lot more. I've been disappointed by imports in the past but heard good things about this beer. For the style its not horrible but if I'm going to drink a bland macro lager, I'll stick with a U.S. product like Rolling Rock, Iron City, Straub, or Yuengling Premium. It was however my first African beer, most likely not the last.

500ml bottle 4,2% Abv
Served cold in a snifter.

Thanks to my friend Jon for bringing this back from his trip to climb Kilimanjaro.

Appearance: Pretty standard for a lager. Pale gold with a large, white, fast dissipating head.

Smell: Touch of pale malt, cooked vegetables and metallic notes. Nothing in the way of hops. Certainly not good, but actually not as bad as most African lager.

Taste: " but actually not as bad as most African lager" - I take that back. Horrid - watery, corn, vegetables, metallic...

Mouthfeel: Light, watery and over carbonated. So, pretty average for the style.

Overall: If I had just climbed Kilimanjaro, I could drink it. Sitting in a comfortable chair in my room - NO!

12oz bottle. Pours pale yellow with a small short lived white head. Aroma and taste of cereal and grains, light malty notes and light hops bitterness. Light body with soda like carbonation and watery mouth feel. Finish is cereal, grains sweet light bitterness ending with a watery, bland and metalic flavor. Overall not much to say, did not like this. Could not finish drinking this beer. Would not reccomend.

The second of two Tusker beers sampled for review. 500ml brown bottle with ingredients listed, including corn syrup and sugar. Two months to go before the best before date.

Clear gold with an energetic white head as expected. Not much aroma, a little grassiness. Meek on taste, with mild balance of malt and hops and a little corny sweetness, which becomes more apparent as the beer warms up. Corn butter at the finish.

I hope it doesn't give me a headache.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a very pale yellow color, with a short white head that fades quickly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of corn and other adjuncts, light malts and a very faint touch of hops.

T: The taste starts with your typical macro adjunct sweetness with flavors of corn and grain. There's a very thin malt character and an almost insignificant hops presence. However, there is a little bit more balance here than in other beer in the style. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: A little smooth with very little crispness, light body, medium-to-high carbonation, finish is clean.

D: Not very flavorful, but goes down ok, not filling at all, mild kick, it's a typical beer for the style but not one that I'd want to drink again if I had too many other choices.
