330ml can, claims to have won over 15 monde selection gold medals around the rim. Pours out a light clear straw colour, no real head and no head retention to speak of. Smell is sweet and bread-like, malt content has obviously been given the throne over hops in this lager. It shows in the flavour. Sweet, a little lemony, a tad yeasty, this is hot, hot weather beer. A little crisp with no discernable aftertaste. All in all though it is not very impressive.

Pours a clear, golden color, topped with a very generous white head and nice retention.
The aroma is pretty easy to pick up - some malts and lots of grassy aroma. Not completely pleasant.
The taste is slightly sweet and grassy. There is some bitterness in the finish, although it leaves a slightly weird aftertaste.
Still drinkable enough to enjoy it.

Pours straw yellow with immediate heavy carbonation. Little head that dissipates quickly, leaving little trace. Nose is tinny, faint hops. Between an American adjunct and mass market Asian beer.

Taste is very light: starts sharp, dry, and sparkly and ends corn sweet and metallic. Lawnmower drinkable; tempered the spicy sauce that went with the African food I was enjoying. Not surprising in any way. Fine so long as you have appropriate expectations.

In my effort to diversify sources, picked up a Kenyan brew.

Beer pours cloudy Serengeti grasslands yellow. Some fizzing, no head.

Clean smell, can't detect much of anything except grain.

Pretty carbonated, clean and crisp. It's thin, offering less than most Asian macros, maybe a little more than most American macros.

This brew doesn't offer that much (even ice-cold) but it doesn't include anything unexpected either. Glad I tried it...on to something else.

A very pale, clear golden liquid that produces an oddly brilliant white head. A little lacing is noticed. The head eventually settles down to a light cap.

The smell is of corn or rice. Not very appealing whatever it is.

The taste is standard import macro lager that could of come from anywhere. A little malt is detectable in an otherwise adjunct heavy beer. Very watery but it would be refreshing on a hot day.

Bottle poured into imperial pint glass.

A- Pale, golden straw. Minimal barely off white head that dissipates quickly and cleanly.

S- A fair amount of bready malts. Really clean for an adjunct lager. No corn, funkiness you think of with Heineken or Bud or the like. No real hop presence. Almost smells like a marzen.

T- There's that adjunctiness that the smell is lagging. The bready malts are gone, replaced with corn like notes. Not strong, but not pleasant. Not really much else to say.

M- Very light. Slight tingle from the carbonation.

O- Not a horrible adjunct lager, but not very good either, certainly not at the price of $2.50 a bottle. I admittedly bought this as a bit of a novelty having never had an African brewed beer and really liking the cap to add to the collection. That being said, this is a one and done for sure.

Golden yellow with a white bubbly head. Metalic canned vegetable skunk smell. Not great. Clean dry grainy taste. A fair amoutnt of bitterness with light carbonation. Not much from the malts. More of a hard metalic grain than anything. Some skunk in the aftertaste that reminded me of Red Stripe. Light crisp bubbly mouthfeel. I wouldn't recomend going out of your way for this. Not the worst thing ever, but the flavors just aren't very good. This would probably be one that grows on you. I'm sure the fifth one would be much better than the first.

I poured this beer into my tumbler at 50 degrees. The beer had a small thin head that was gone like right now. The beer was very light pale looking and smelled like some weird flowers or something. The taste was very yeasty to me and just not very good. I will not be purchasing this beer again.

A 355ml bottle with a BB date of April 2011. I picked this up from my local off-licence as they like to sell a range of beer cheaply.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A pale straw colour with good clarity and plentiful carbonation. A finger of foamy white head which lasts for a minute before subsiding to leave a thin surface film. Smells of grainy malt and little else.

Taste is clean and crisp. Light malt and slight bitterness, somewhat grainy. Slightly dry mouthfeel from the carbonation. Not much else to be said really - it just doesn't have that much character.

A bit uneventful - it's rather bland. This probably goes down better in a hot climate where you want something refreshing, but it doesn't do much for me.

It looks fine... A nice lemony straw yellow, with a decent creamy head that hangs around for a bit before it leaves a touch of lacing.

The aroma is a bit understated. There is a faint whiff of yeasty "beeriness" with some lemon.

As for flavour, well, I was really searching here for any flavour at all. Again I found the nondescript "beeriness", with some lemony flavours. It's so weak tasting that it's hard to describe it any better than that. There is very little sweetness, very little bitterness/hops/malt, very little of anything really.

In the mouth, it feels relatively nice. The carbonation is crisp and refreshing, and the body is smooth and easy-drinking. So score one for mouthfeel!

As for overall drinkability, well, it's refreshing, light, and crisp. But I can barely tell it's beer. If it is served really cold, it seems to go well with spicy food on a hot, hot day. When it warms beyond "cold", it becomes insipid.

Our pour reveals a crystal clear, pale straw colored brew, with highly active carbonation. The white two finger head is somewhat resilient, and clings to the glass' walls. The aroma is metallic and malty. It does, however, hide some subtle notes reminiscent of apple juice. The players from the nose come through fully in the taste, which begins with a hollow, tinny assault on the taste buds. The sip peaks with a light malty sweetness, leaving a thin appley taste through the end of the swallow. This brew is thin bodied and overly carbonated, and while it has a standard abv, its drinkability is somewhat diminished.

Overall, when we were drinking this brew we kept saying "apple juice". It packs a light punch in the flavor department, and the overwhelming carbonation leaves the drinker somewhat burpy and unsatisfied.

A: Pale golden color color with a very thin off-white head. Some spotty lacing down the glass.

S: Sweet and grainy with some boiled corn and a little honey. Yeast creeps in the more the beer warms.

T: Pretty similar to the smell. Lots of grain, some butter, corn, yeast and a bit of malt. Not exactly a clean finish. Kind of a lingering, yeasty flavor at the end. Yuck.

Very light gold color, medium head. Aroma is a little hoppy and something else..corn? A light tasting lager. Mild tasting, a little sweet and grassy. Slight hop bite. Not a good beer, but it at least drinkable. Mouthfeel is rather thin. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is neutral. Best Kenyan beer (1) I've tasted.

This beer pours a yellow color with a moderate head and minimal lacing on the glass. The aroma is not very pleasing, but not too bad. The flavor is respectable, but nothing special and the aftertaste is a little bitter. Not a bad beer, but not a great one either.

For my first review, I thought I'd go with something that I've wanted to try for a while - Tusker Lager. I've never had an African beer before, so let's try it out.

Appearance - 2.0: I like the lighter ales, but this isn't golden, it isn't yellow. It's not opaque, it's not even translucent. Something about a transparent beer with hops rushing to the head reminds me of a low quality American beer (I won't mention any names) and throws me off. Pours into my Irish mug with just a hint of a head.

Smell - 3.0: Weak smell, which is better than a bad smell, but gives no real indication of what to expect. I can live with that, except that here, as is usual, it predicates a weak beer. On smell alone, though, nothing to complain about.

Taste - 2.0: This beer fails the real test. It reminds me of a weak American beer, made from cheaper ingredients. It's got no personal style to separate it from any other brew. There is a touch of sweetness to it that it's a shame they didn't capitalize on more.

Mouthfeel - 3.0: Very light, low on acidity, seems low on carbonation, designed to appeal to the highest amount of people.

Drinkability - 3.5: A lot of this is thanks to mouthfeel. It's got an inoffensive taste, the proof isn't painful, it's easy on the mouth, so it's a pretty drinkable beer.

All in all, this isn't a beer to avoid at all costs, but it's nothing to get your hopes up about, either. It's designed, like I said, to appeal to the highest number of people, so a lot of the qualities that could make it stand out are diluted. That said, I'm sure Africa has better beers that I look forward to trying.

A: Pours a pale straw color with one finger head. Shrinks to a thin film with nice lacing.

S: VERY clean...very little aroma to mention. Slight scent of grain with a barely detectable herbal hop note.

T: Crisp, cracker-like grain flavor. Very little malt character. There is virtually no hop flavor, although a slight herbal hop bitterness becomes present with the finish. Finishes dry. Overall, a little bland.

M & D: Light bodied with strong carbonation. The sensation on the palate is a little thin. Very drinkable, but there's not much complexity here to entice me to drink more than one or two. This beer definitely has two things going for it though - it's damn refreshing and not offensive in the least. I guess I was just hoping for a little more flavor and aroma.

not a bad lager.
a grassy astringency early quickly leaves as there is little to no aftertaste. consistant for the style but WAY overpriced. A little hops can be detected....early...underwhelming but probobly a touch better in taste and distinction than most massprolag's Bought on a recommendation....but I cannot give the same recommendation because this is overpriced and only slighty above average. warsteiner meets budweiser. perhaps the most overpriced beer of all time!
