A: Pours a pale yellow color with a small head with bits of lacing.

S: Aroma is quite mild with just a bit of corn sweetness and not much else.

T: Taste is quite bland with a bit of malt sweetness. Mild bitterness and a clean finish.

F: Light body, just a bit of crispness and no flavor at all.

O: A non-offensive beer that is bland and has no character.

First came across this beer while in Kenya for a holiday and Safari in 2007. I thought it an ideal beer to wash away the dust and heat in Africa.

However, on a March afternoon in a cold, wet and windy England, it isn't so great.

This bottle was brought back with me, purely to review on this site (you can now buy it at TESCO's supermarket chain in the UK).

It looked fine in a Hoegaarden Grand Cru stemmed tulip glass. Pale golden and as clear as any lager/pilsner on earth. The white head was thin to start with and got even thinner very quickly.

As with most lagers/pilsners there was next to no aroma worth talking about. Some wheat type smells, but no beery bits got up my nose. It gets my normal 3 score.

I was disappointed in the taste, it was nothing like I remembered. Almost tasteless, like a Bitbuger Pilsner.

Watery and weak flavoured, this is a hot day beer, as mentioned earlier.

If I had reviewed this beer in Africa, the score would have been a lot higher. Sadly in the cold light of an English day, it didn't come up to muster.

Ordered a bottle of this at a restaurant. I poured the bottle into a pint glass. No head to speak of and no lacing. The color is very light. Sitting next to my glass of water, I could barely tell the difference between the two. The aroma is subdued to say the least. There is a slight hint of hops and malt and I really had to take a few deep sniffs to register the aroma. The taste is much the same...very mild on hops and grain, with a bit of a funky aftertaste. The mouthfeel is dry and bubbly. Overall, a rather underwhelming beer that barely registered on my senses. I think the bottle with the elephant logo was the coolest part of this beer.

Picked up a 12oz single for $1.99 at Manchester Wine and Liquors in Manchester CT. Bottled on/ freshness dating is stampled on the bottle but is hard to read... I think it says best by Sep 10. Served cold in a chilled pint glass.

Clear light yellow brew is extremely fizzy, tons of carbonation on the glass, a fizzy white head fizzles out in a matter of seconds. Smell is practically nonexistent, just a little adjunct sweetness. Feel has mostly settled down, certainly didn't hold its fizz... it went from explosive to nearly flat in about 3 minutes. Taste is mild adjunct sweetness, maybe a little muddy hop... nothing offensive, but nothing interesting either.

Sharp taste with big afterbite. It's not a really good beer. But who cares! You're in Kenya! It passes. Tough to find a cold one.

I enjoyed it and would LOVE the opportunity to go back and try it again.

'Beer Only' is etched onto the bottle.

It pours a pale gold with a foamy collar that leaves lots of lace trails behind. The aroma is very weak with some limpid malt sweetness. The taste is of wet cardboard, grain husks, and stale white bread. The mouthfeel is very watery and theres virtually no hop bitterness. Carbonation is less fizzy than other adjunct lagers. This is an average lager, its definitely more flavorful that Labatt Blue or Bud, but not as flavorful as Becks or Grolsch.

A - Poured out a pale yellow color with a pillowy, white, three-finger head. No lace, however.

S - It smelled of corn, grain and a hint of yeast.

T - It mostly tasted of corn/grain. It was fairly sweet and no real hop flavor to speak of.

M - It was fairly crisp and dry. A light-bodied beer.

D - I wasn't overly impressed. It looked better than it smelled or tasted. There just was much in terms of flavor.

Purchased at the LCBO for just over the $3.00 mark for a 500ml bottle. Served at 4deg C in a draught glass

A- Opens well and pours a 1" white head that is gone in seconds. Lighter gold color and filtered clear

S- Some malt and the tiniest of hops. Touch metallic

T- It's like rice beer. Very similar to a bad Mexican beer.

M- Similar to a Bud.

O- Not a very good beer. Will not buy again unless there is nothing else to drink.

Food Pairing

This beer will go with...... Anything you would pair with a low quality Mexican beer

12oz bottle to stange. Sampled 10/29/11 with a best by date of 2/16/12.

A: Two fingers of bright white airy foamy head rise from the pour and last much longer than expected. The color of the body is the lightest, palest yellow that I've ever seen in a beer. Clarity is top notch. Lacing is rather decent.

S: Metal, generic grain, rice or corn, with an overall adjunct-y aroma and taste. Not much else stands out in the malt department - and almost nothing as far as hops go. Fruity esters from the lager yeast.

T: Not a whole lot unlike Miller Lite, if memory serves. Embarrassingly enough for the collective American palate, this beer is significantly better - and much better than anticipated.

M: Very light beer with a crisp and snappy finish. A little metallic. With the ABV unlisted, I was thinking as low as 3%. Very refreshing.

O: Hey - not bad man. Would Tusker be a gold medal award winner at International Monde Selection if it were?

Straw yellow with a white head. Faint odor of corn, not much else in the aroma department. No hops were harmed in the making of this beer. Flavor is a very light and clean version of the basic malt-corn combo. Mouthfeel is heavily carbonated and watery as is typical with style.

Fairly easy drinking, but too bland to provide more than a refreshing palate cleanser.

The Kenyan beer Tusker turned out to be pretty much what I expected. This is a another tropical climate beer that is cheaply made, but it would be an easily drinkable beer if the situation saw fit. A bit unremarkable, but not revolting.

Tusker pours a light yellow color with a decent foam head that lasts for around 35 seconds. The smell reminds me a bit of a euro-lager (even though it's brown bottled). Some skunk, along with some musty/soapy/grainy adjunct smells. The mouthfeel is thin and fizzy. The flavor has a hint of sweetness. Mostly grain/adjunct flavors here, slightly husky with some soapy qualities to it. Corn is detectable here as well. I couldn't taste any actual hop presence though, so it finishes out watery. There are grainy flavors in the aftertaste, and a burnt corn flavor lingers for a moment or two. This beer finishes out with no alcoholic warmth.

This isn't a beer I would actively seek out by any means. It's cheap and adjuncty, and I could pick dozens of American macros if I wanted that in a beer. Overall, just plain and unexciting.

Clear straw hue w/ swirling flakes of yeast, topped by a thick, well retained bumpy white head that leaves good lace. Corn sweetness, light grain huskiness, mild sulfur in aroma w/ a trace grassy hop nose. Pasty creamed corn sweetness hits the palate upfront, then is followed by light, clean bready malt. Devoid of malt character overall. Subdued lemony hop flavor. Typically thinly bodied and watery in mouthfeel from the copious use of adjuncts and consequent lack of protein. Finishes clean and lightly sweet due to the paltry hopping. Tusker isn't flawed, but the large use of adjuncts leave a void in flavor that make it most forgettable. Not unlike macroswill, Tusker's bland enough to leave my palate craving flavor.

I bought this from Purvis , thinking that it had rated well (for some reason )
It hadn't rated well , nor ,in my view should have it.
Being a pretty stock standard pale yellow in the glass ,with a resistant head, the smell is very plain Metallic, chemically.
The taste was an improvment to at least being drinkable. It seemed sweeter than most in this style, which was intriguing for the first 1/2 a glass , but after that it tended towards sickly unpleasantness.
If I was in Kenya I wouldnt go thirsty by not drinking it but not one I would try again

Bottle poured into a tulip

A: Pours a light, straw yellow with an ample white fizz head formed from large bubbles and settles quickly.

S: Aroma is malty with a touch of bitterness and strong with bright honey sweetness, very unusual but welcome for a traditional lager.

T/M: Flavor is more subdued but a lot like what a standard issue lager should be: medium carbonation, tiny bit of hoppy bitterness, touch of honey sweetness, lingering malts, very basic and very light.

It goes down smooth, though, and fast, ideal for a hot day when flavor might take a back seat to refreshment but very average otherwise.

My first impression of this brew was that of lemons, and that from the initial aroma which was quicky reinforced by the taste..
The colour is a rich golden hue and cloudy..the body is thin and the carbonation is more than ample..
Initial lemony taste which is quickly repaced with bland..
Not impressive..

A - Pale yellow, about a half a finger of white head which disapeared in about 10 seconds with no lacing

S - Not really much to talk about. Was worried it was a little skunky even though the freshness date indicated it was very fresh.

T - OK, so no skunkiness, which is a relief. But honestly, not much taste at all. Very watery, like a watered down Miller Lite.

M - Like a sparkling water...some carbonation, that's about it.

D - I guess this is pretty drinkable. I could probably drink a whole case, although I don't know why I would. Maybe good for a hot summer day. Not a good beer by any stretch.

In my effort to diversify sources, picked up a Kenyan brew.

Beer pours cloudy Serengeti grasslands yellow. Some fizzing, no head.

Clean smell, can't detect much of anything except grain.

Pretty carbonated, clean and crisp. It's thin, offering less than most Asian macros, maybe a little more than most American macros.

This brew doesn't offer that much (even ice-cold) but it doesn't include anything unexpected either. Glad I tried it...on to something else.

500ml bottle: Poured a very pale yellow color lager with nice foamy with head with better retention then expected. Aroma of malt and hops are very faint and almost non-existent. Taste is refreshing with some malt and very little hops. The surprising thing about this one is that it is not skunk even though is traveled 5000 miles in a light brown bottle.

Pours a clear, golden color, topped with a very generous white head and nice retention.
The aroma is pretty easy to pick up - some malts and lots of grassy aroma. Not completely pleasant.
The taste is slightly sweet and grassy. There is some bitterness in the finish, although it leaves a slightly weird aftertaste.
Still drinkable enough to enjoy it.

The exotic nature of this brew (from AFRICA!) is tough to not be excited over... still, responsible scrutiny must be adhered to... predominantly transparent, straw yellow body with discernable carbonation... snow white head settles softly to a quarter-inch haze--yup, it's a lager... malty, yes, but much more flowery than expected--almost fruity to a malt-softening level (promising)... thin, almost watery in the throat--a Miller Lite experiencewith added carbohydrates and carbonation--I'm going to burp out an elephant... mellow and toothless (ur, tuskless), thin in taste and presence... lagers named Tusker should STOMP--this one slithers...a seltzery finish cinches it: I'm not going to enjoy this unless I have a six of it IN KENYA!

330ml can, claims to have won over 15 monde selection gold medals around the rim. Pours out a light clear straw colour, no real head and no head retention to speak of. Smell is sweet and bread-like, malt content has obviously been given the throne over hops in this lager. It shows in the flavour. Sweet, a little lemony, a tad yeasty, this is hot, hot weather beer. A little crisp with no discernable aftertaste. All in all though it is not very impressive.

A very pale, clear golden liquid that produces an oddly brilliant white head. A little lacing is noticed. The head eventually settles down to a light cap.

The smell is of corn or rice. Not very appealing whatever it is.

The taste is standard import macro lager that could of come from anywhere. A little malt is detectable in an otherwise adjunct heavy beer. Very watery but it would be refreshing on a hot day.

Golden yellow with a white bubbly head. Metalic canned vegetable skunk smell. Not great. Clean dry grainy taste. A fair amoutnt of bitterness with light carbonation. Not much from the malts. More of a hard metalic grain than anything. Some skunk in the aftertaste that reminded me of Red Stripe. Light crisp bubbly mouthfeel. I wouldn't recomend going out of your way for this. Not the worst thing ever, but the flavors just aren't very good. This would probably be one that grows on you. I'm sure the fifth one would be much better than the first.

Pours straw yellow with immediate heavy carbonation. Little head that dissipates quickly, leaving little trace. Nose is tinny, faint hops. Between an American adjunct and mass market Asian beer.

Taste is very light: starts sharp, dry, and sparkly and ends corn sweet and metallic. Lawnmower drinkable; tempered the spicy sauce that went with the African food I was enjoying. Not surprising in any way. Fine so long as you have appropriate expectations.

I poured this beer into my tumbler at 50 degrees. The beer had a small thin head that was gone like right now. The beer was very light pale looking and smelled like some weird flowers or something. The taste was very yeasty to me and just not very good. I will not be purchasing this beer again.
