Served with a minimal head. Has a nice dark red/brown color, very clear. Has a citrusy, slightly piney hop aroma and a fairly strong malt aroma. The taste is clean and balanced, lots of malt and lots of hop, with a fair crystal malt presence. Alcohol is prominent. Very good hop flavor upon swallowing. This is billed as a double red ale. I would say it's an 'almost barley wine', another % ABV would definitely put it in this category( but this is Vermont...). (461 characters)

On tap athe alchemist poured into a small glass.

Pours a dark mahogany/red color with just a tiny rim of foam and some really nice lacing. Nose is really rich, hoppy and malty with some caramel undertones.

Taste is very rich and earthy with a light bite of alcohol but not over the top at all. It's really tasty and easy drinking for being such a rich hoppy brew. Mouthfeel is smooth and crisp. (396 characters)

On tap. Pours a ruby red color with a thin layer of head. Lots of sticky lacing. Aroma is piney and sweet. Sweet citrus. Taste is bitter and sweet. Slightly citrusy but can't really pinpoint what fruit it reminds me of. Bitter afftertaste. Pretty solid amber ale. Some maltiness but mostly the bitterness of the hops dominates. Pretty drinkable considering the ABV and not really noticing much alcohol taste. Overall a solid choice and worth having again. (455 characters)

On tap at The Alchemist last weekend.

Pours a muddy brown color with a huge off-white head and great lacing as it went down the glass. The nose carried strong citrus and some light pine as well as a touch of bready amber malt. Some sweetness there. The flavor is mostly pine and citrus, though much of the flavor is cut out by really strong bitterness. Some malt sweetness, but also a bit of diacetyl. Mouthfeel is medium with strong bitterness. Pretty solid, though not as good as many of their other hoppy offerings. (519 characters)

Stopped by the Alchemist on 10APR10 with Alewife for dinner. Had a couple of these with my burger, pouring 12oz for $4.00.

The fluted glass was filled with a bier with a deep copper/chestnut color. The thin, light tan head ebbed quickly, though the fine bubbles left nice lacing. Aroma has low sweetness, with rindy, inviting hops. Solidly medium in body, Hellbrook 2010 was also fairly even over the tongue.

Sweetness is on the low side here, too. Rindy, pithy hops attack the palate, with grapefruit leading the charge. A little piney as well as resiny, it leans a bit towards a DIPA. Overall, a solid bier. My first glass was straight up, my 2nd handpulled from the cask. A little warmer and less carbonated from cask, it didn't taste different enough to warrant another review. Prosit!!
