I have nominated English Porter as the style for this; it could be argued that it is a "Dark Mild Ale", but for me it was more Porter than Mild or "Old Ale". And as the brewery also produces a Porter, there may be disagreement. I am happy to be challenged on this.

Tasted this at the Australian Beer Festival, 30 September 2006, along with the Longboard Wit, and Pig Dog Pilsener.

The overall sensations included, roasted grains, chocolate, iced coffee, hint of tobacco leaf / cigar box, molasses.

Medium mouthfeel and nice sweet finish.

Tried at the Australian Beer Festival, 1st October, 2006...

Nice looking beer, this one. Almost opaque black, with a good, creamy head.

Nose is rich and smoky. Chocolate flavours, with a burnt, almost peppery character to it.

The taste is also rich, smoky and dark. It reminds me of a campfire in the bush. Long, roasted aftertaste. A very nice sippable beer. I reckon a bit of a boost in the ABV would help it a bit, give it a bit more body, as would a smoother mouthfeel, but this was a very enjoyable beer all the same.

One of the best I tried at the festival, and the only one I went back for seconds for... =)

Good dark brown colour with black notes. Small tan head. Fair head retention.

Mild chocolate and smoke notes. Intriguing.

More chocolate, coffee and smoke. There is some earthiness to be found as well. I really like what a dash of rauchmalt adds to a dark beer.

Medium full body with moderately low carbonation.

A solid and delightful beer. It packs a nice punch and is well crafted.
