I enjoyed this on tap at Parker Pie for the 4th Anniversary party for Hill Farmstead -served chilled in a pint.

The color is golden with thick hazed look with white cap and fine bead. The smell is lghtly sulfuric with mineral aspect and phenolic yeast accent with gentle spice and some herbal hop aromas. The feel is medium bodied with gentle note of grain with very yeast oriented texture which is on the dry side with spiced element and medicinal edge with light tangy vinous quality.

The flavor is decent with some mild malt with a good amount of yeastiness in the flavor which is both creamy and has a slight pepper and phenolic quality combined with herbal and grass tinged hop flavor with a mild alcohol and light bitterness that carries through. Overall a more traditional take on the style with high hoppiness combined with lots of yeast aroma and flavor. (867 characters)

On tap at Schera’s in Elkader, IA. Poured into a Zwanze 2014 glass 9/20/2014.

A- Darker yellow, hazy with a 3 finger white head with way too much retention time. But plenty of lacing. It’s certainly worth waiting for. [3.75]

S- Belgian yeast, spices, cloves, pale wheat malt, tart funk. Really does smell like a tarter Saison Du Pont. [3.75]

F- Cloves, pale wheat, freshly baked bread, tart stone fruit, oak, a bit of musty hay. As in the nose, this is a tarter Saison Du Pont. Not that special, certainly not worth the asking price per bottle at Hill Farmstead but it’s certainly solid. [4]

M- Medium bodied, soft, well carbonated, mineral-dense finish with a bit of musty hay. Solid, but I don’t think I could drink more than 6oz in one sitting. [3.5]

O- Decent saison. I think the Hill Farmstead name being attached to this really makes this more desirable than it should be, especially given what it costs. [3.75]

Slightly hazed, golden-yellow color with a huge, froth head, leaving a thin, bubbly lacing at the side of the glass.

Slightly funky aromas of mellow yeast with green grass, lemon peel, onion and subtle, malt based sweetness.

Begins with an intriguing interplay between sparkling, coppery carbonation and tongue-biting, warm spices, coming along with hints of black pepper and herbal, floral notes. These get enhanced by a grassy hoppiness which inherits an enjoyable bitterness, wrapped up by soft, white-bread yeast. A malty sweetness developes underneath these flavors and becomes more and more detectable during the finish, which gets joined by a slick, soft bitterness, a melange of yeast and hops. These very different flavors go unexpetedly well together, enhancing each others taste, without any off-flavors or distractions. Clove morphs flawlessly into floral hops, with carbonation calming the malty sweetness by coppery metallicness.

Unexpectedly complex, but throughout pleasant with a finish which is bitter and sweet at the same time, leaving me very satisfied. (1,080 characters)

This is one of the most delicate beers I've ever had. On a guest draft at 3's in Brooklyn, March 10. Excellently made. (118 characters)
