A- Poured into two HF tulips glasses with a yeast-hazed golden yellow body. Pouring in the center immediately reveals an insane amount of foam, almost leaving the glass. Great head retention as the cap never seems to fully leave, falling to a thick pillow after about ten minutes. The amount of lacing is extraordinary, thick blankets coat the glass all around the entire bowl of the tulip.

S- Classic Belgian farmhouse yeast off the top without much funk or added specialty items. Reminds me of the DuPont strain quite a bit and not as much of a French strain. Inviting notes of lemon citrus, Belgian peppery and herbal yeast spice, light grains and some bread hints. Becomes quite flowery with warming.

T- A prominent, yet soothing spicy Belgian yeast with a slight hop balance on the back end. Appropriate amount of yeast character bringing notes of peppery spice, cooking herbs, lemon zest oil and grainy bread. Hops are herbal, floral and a tiny bit fruity. Light malts provide a platform for the yeast to shine.

MF- Light, super dried out body with a high end carbonation. Foams up nicely as you sip on it and really exhibits a good feel for the style. Light spicy bitterness lingers on the palate after sipping.

For a no-frills kind of Saison this is something I would enjoy time and time again. I love DuPont and this reminds me a bit of it, perhaps with a bit more hop character and a slightly different yeast feel. Definitely recommended for fans of Saisons.

750ml caged and corked bottle, thanks to Phyl21ca for getting it to me. The cork came off easily, with a satisfyingly loud pop and hiss, unlike, cough, cough, a recent debacle I had with a similar Lost Abbey contraption.

This beer pours a cloudy, pale golden straw colour, with a frightening amount of fast rising, puffy columnar white head, which slowly settles, eventually leaving some attractive layered cloud lace around the glass.

It smells of zippy, somewhat acrid yeast, zesty lemon peel, gritty, grainy wheat malt, white pepper, a subtle musty funk, and earthy, kind of surprisingly leafy hops. The taste is a much softer yeastiness than on the nose, with some mildly acidic lemon juice, clove and black pepper spice, understated wheat malt, ethereal funk, fresh-cut hay, and a leafy, earthy hoppiness.

The carbonation is really the lead here - it doesn't get any easier to pour or wait for the head to go down as things progress - some sort of bottle refermentation had to have gone on here. At any rate, the mouthfeel is actually pretty pleasant, the body medium-light in weight, and agreeably smooth. It finishes mostly dry, the lilting citrus and leafy hops doing an end run around the yeast and funk - America wins!

A rather tasty, and balanced (and least until the end, when the hops assert themselves) saison. Kind of a shame about the bubbles situation though - I shouldn't be this confounding to pour and subsequently drink a beer - so, unfortunately, the drinkability factor duly suffers.
