This beer pours rich, deep, blood crimson. In a Swiftwater tulip glass it clear dark brown with bright copper highlights. A viscous film leaves legs, while a faint beige head flashes over the top.

Booziness is mild, with a strong, sweet rum, followed by plums and prunes. This beer becomes very sweet, like sugar candy and rich whead bread. An earthiness drones in the background.

Rich malt and toffee and very sweet on entry. Earthiness comes out in the middle with the plums, prunes and figs. The flavor is very reminiscent of plum pudding with hard sauce. The finish is lingering as it draws out sweet tea.

A dense body with oily texture and a light touch of carbonation.

This beer will pair well with leather-bound books in a big oak chair next to a crackling fire.

This bottle was vintage dated 2008.

Tried the 10 year aged love it. Want more. Poured a bit cloudy or dark assume due to age. Nose is straight up barleywine. Taste is superb. Initially it is a hit to the palate but that fades to a sift flavor.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. 2008 vintage bottle, recently purchased (I was a little surprised to see the date when opening the bottle). Pours a very dark red-orange, with a thin off-white head that dissipates quickly to tiny patches and slight lacing. Aroma of fresh and dry dark fruit; plums, dates and figs, caramel malt and brown sugar. There is an odd woody cellar component that is momentarily off-putting, but then recedes to reveal a cherry note that is quite nice; a little oxidation. Flavor is plum, raisin, blackberry, cherry, and a hint of orange, sweet caramel malt, finishes with lingering fruit esters of the same variety as the main taste. Sweet aftertaste. Medium bodied with a light syrupy feel to match the fruit in the aroma and taste. A very fruit forward barleywine, almost more like a mixed fruit aperitif. The malt and fruit flavors are well integrated and fresh tasting. The odd aroma and oxidation are not present in the taste, although there is a bit of booziness in the finish. This has aged very nicely, and I'm disappointed that I don't have a fresh baseline to compare against. Any hops in this have left little residual presence. Flavorful and high octane, this is a dessert barleywine now, and other than the above average sweetness, which would be cloying except for the excellent fruit flavors, one the better aged barleywines I've had. The looks and aroma are not that exciting, but this tasted great. Glad I accidentally ran across a bottle and didn't notice the date (which would have given me pause for a bottle with unkown storage history), this is very nice.

Finding inspiration in what America has done with the esteemed barleywine, Denmark's own Norrenbro brewers bridge the gap between classic British variety and America's hop folly and construct an ale that's larger that each can achieve on their own.

Little Korkny Ale projects a stately and masculine austere with a deep garnet hue that's strikingly bright and ruby in highlights. As a sturdy froth builds, a quick collapse occurs as the ale trend more and more brandy-like. As its succulent and earthy perfume seduces the nose with plum, raisin, prune and fig; its taste is sultry sweet with molasses, toffee and caramel.

And as the barleywine unfolds across the tongue, its lavishly sweet taste carries those jammy, molasses and caramel tastes with fruity hints of vinous grape, blackberry and currant. Spicy with fresh cracked peppercorn and a sharp brandy-like bite, the ale finishes long, piquant and warm.

Its finish is full, decadent and sweet- notions of port, sherry and madeira play out on the throat with a linger of curacau liquor, cocoa, tobacco and pepper jam extends deep into the next sip.

This ale was a vintage bottle, dated 2008 and tasted in 2016 = eight years old.

Bottle purchased at Nathaniel Square Corner Store in Rochester, NY. '08 vintage.

This one pours a slightly murky brown, with a small head and no lacing. Looks very lightly carbonated.

Smells like dark fruit, orange, figs, chocolate, and caramel.

This is nearly 8 years old, and while it's certainly not improving most likely, it's still pretty tasty. It's quite a sweet treat, but not overwhelmingly syrupy, luckily. It's very fruity, caramel and candy sugar, with some figs and orange as well. Goes down easy enough.

This is medium bodied, with a slightly syrupy mouthfeel- but not overwhelmingly so.

Really cool to be able to try this.

2008 vintage 600ml bottle poured into a City Beer Store snifter.

A~ muddy orange/brown with a tiny head and a little lacing.

S~ really sweet upfront, brown sugar, caramel, molasses, and toffee. figs and prunes to follow and some bready yeast.

T~ even sweeter here! otherwise pretty much follows the nose with more figs as well. some hop bitterness on the back end.

M~ super smooth, no heat at all! not too carbed but perfect for the style.

O~ wondering why i'm rating this!? Mr. Hill helped brew this batch! haha. having this for the first time after having Aaron you can really tell where it evolved from. i bet the barrel aged versions Shaun had a part in are just insane! hopefully some of those are still around!
