I have been meaning to go in here for quite sometime and now that Hickok's had closed I really had no excuse not to try it on my last excursion to Springfield. It is sort of a dive looking bar but I think that is the look they are going for. I always enjoy "dives" anyway. It is smokey and dark. I enjoyed all the breweriana that is spread out around the joint. That always tells me that it is an establishment that appreciates beer. There were beer menus everywhere and a selection of about a hundred beers around 40 being on tap. They are not beer stingy here they do samples. The bartender Joel knew his trait and was quick to give some good recommendations. He was also all over the place. It was a somewhat busy Saturday but that did not stop him from greeting everyone, learning their names and checking on them. I was really impressed. The food was great it could have been a bit bigger but the price wasn't bad either. I might start hitting this place up a little more often.

I have a long history with Patton, so I'm just going to outline my Pros/Cons.
Pros:
Large beer selection
Reasonable prices
Food for when you're drunk & hungry
Some good live music

Cons:
Half of the time said beer selection isn't available (sold out)
Don't clean lines often enough
Only serve beer, *all beer*, in pint glasses
Service wavers between excelelnt and terrible

I've gone here for years, but at this point, at least for me, there are better places in Springfield to get beer.

Patton Alley Pub has an excellent college vibe and seems always packed. The last time I went it was very crowded. This is a good pub.

They have decent service, I won't knock them for taking long on orders as they were incredibly busy.

They have a decent selection of over 40 on taps and even more in bottles. They have a few local breweries on tap as well as regional brewieries like Boulevard and New Belgium.

I didn't try any of the food, just some beers.

The Price is reasonable. Next time I go out on the town in Springfield I will be sure and stop here again.

Stopped in after having dinner at the Springfield Brew Company just around the block. The selection was excellent for a college pub. Was told by some friends who live in Springfield that it's usually pretty crowded, but when we went there was almost nobody in the place, which was nice. The bartender was obviously a fellow beer geek and was good w describing the available beers and even hooked us up w some samples (not sure if this would have been possible if the place was packed). Prices seemed pretty standard, and they had a range of beers from your basic 3-4$ lager to some pricier high-gravity specialty brews. Had probably two dozen beers on tap and about double that in bottles, so a pretty eclectic selection. I would definitely stop in again if I'm in the area.

Stopped in on a Wednesday night around 8pm and sat at the bend halfway down on a long wooden bar.

Located in the downtown local entertainment district so other options in the area in terms of shopping, food, entertainment.

A very large but cozy interior with a significant bar and lots of beer advertising both new and historic. The other, back half of the bar was sort of closed. It had a stage and a soundboard so I assume it would be for "large" acts. They had a band playing during my visit with only about 20 people in the bar.

On to the beer. I counted 43 taps with about four of those having Crown Royal bags indicating they were out or down. Boulevard, New Belgium, Schlafly, and Mothers (local Springfield brewery) all had multiple beers. Odell 90 Shilling and Big Sky Moose Drool (which I went with as beer two). I had a Boulevard Zon as beer one. Both beers tasted clean and fresh indicating they take good care of the product and tap lines.

Diverse bottle list with nine common Belgians.

Only minor drawback was the bartender could have been a bit more friendly and known more about the product. When I asked what the Zon was, she said "something like a Belgian but not very good" and then offered a taste. I found it to be quite good.

Relative to the area, this is a great place for beer and I would come again and recommend it with the understanding of what beers are available in this part of the country.

This is one of the go to places for good beer in Springfield.
It's a laid back atmosphere with friendly, attentive bartenders who usually know their beer, and a great tap and bottle selection. Happy hour all day Sundays, with half price domestic taps (all craft) and appetizers. They make some pretty damn good wings and beer cheese dip too. Lots of taps, including some rarish stuff, some decent Belgian beers, and they rotate seasonals. They get bands in pretty often, usually local ones.
There's fancier bars, and other Missouri bars have better selection (like Flying Saucer), but this is definitely my favorite in town.

This is the place to go for draft craft beer in Sringfield, MO. They have about 30 taps (none of which are BMC) and about 80 or so bottles. They regularly have Bell's Two Hearted and Lagunitas IPA on-tap. Though, I would be more interested in frequenting Patton if they rotated out taps and put a few rarer seasonals on more often. Other than happy hour they are a little overpriced. Happy hour is from 2-6, Monday-Saturday, and all day on Sunday. Happy hour includes half-price American taps and apps. Sundays are great days to get a group together and throw down.

One down side you'll find is that it can get pretty smoky in there. Also, when bands play on weekends, you can't hear the person sitting next to you.

This is another nice place in Springfield, MO to dine and drink. Part of the ever expanding downtown Patton Alley appears from the outside as a neighborhood "hole in the wall" bar. Once inside you'll find nothing too fancy or out of the ordinary. Brewania is plastered on all of the walls, Schlafly is well represented. A bar seating approximately 30 stools lies on the North while high-tops are on the south along with standard table seating throughout. The place is clean and nice.

There are about 40 beers on tap, none of which are really earth shattering, but there are some very solid selections. Several from Boulevard, Schlafly, O'Dells with plenty of representation for BMC, Blue Moon, Guinness etc. There are 110 bottles and some darn nice beers in this list. I had a Hurculese Double IPA from Great Divide, decent Belgian selection with all the standards (Duvel, Tremens, etc.) and some less standard La Chouff. Nice selection of Rougue bottles as well.

I had a cheeseburger, honestly, it's ptetty hard to screw that up, and they didn't. The menu is pub grub, but decent.

Very reasonable place to dine, as are most in Springfield.

Now 38 Taps and over 80 bottles you dont really need to say anything more about Patten its the best place in town to go for a good diverse beer selection and the atmosphere and people rival that of their beer selection overall just a great place to hang out with your friends and have some great beer. The food is really its only slightly weak spot with their burgers tending to be a bit dry, but even that is brought up by their amazing queso dip served with warm flatbread. If your in springfeild and looking for a good place to go head downtown

Wow, With 36 beers on tap, and 85 in a bottle, you really can't go with out finding something new that you like. Most of the beer is changing all of the time, so there is almost always something new. All in all a really cool place. Great for an evening out with friends there is almost always live music, and the food is decent. But I go mainly for the beer choice. I usually ask the bartenders what to recommend and they are always helpful with the beer styles and what each one is like. I would recommend to anyone visiting Springfield to check it out, you really can't miss.

Around two dozen taps protrude from the cold room behind the bar where 20 kegs are tapped. The menu lists another 3 or 4 dozen craft brews. Chalk board points out the seasonals and what is on special (Rogue Dead Guy Ale @ $2 a pint during happy hour!!!!) Agrario a contemporary Mediterranian Cuisine and soon to open brewpub across the street will accomidate 350 customers and brew 8 styles for their taps - expect it to open Dec 10th 2005.

The atmosphere of Patton Alley pub is old city Springfield. Staff seem knowlegible about their brews, suppliers and celler maintence. I enjoy having regionals like Boulevard, Schlafly, and New Belgium. We hit the bar empty early on Friday afternoon - November 11th 2005 - although no tables were outside they offered to carry one out for us! The 2° Below Winter Ale was well served! I shall return to the pub and its new across the street Brewery! The city is doing a lot of infrastructure repair and some streets are temporarily closed. South Patton is close to the bus station and should be well patroled at nights. Free parking lots nearby but may fill up on busy weekend nights.

A new establishment that includes a brew on premises featuring a brewmaster specializing in Belgium style will be named "Hickok's" and id directly across the street from Patton Alley Pub and Agrario's.

About the best place in Springfield to hoist a pint. There are about 20 rotating taps (original plan was to have 32 but there aren't enough beer distributors with a large selection of beers to choose from) and another 50 or so in the bottle. For beer snobs, its nice to see a place that DOESN'T have mega-brews on tap. If you want any of the megas other than Miller Lite you gotta go bottle or go elsewhere. Rogue Dead Guy Ale (according to the owner) is his top seller and goes for $2 a pint during happy hour!!!! The food ranges from pub grub to slightly upscale (the owner also has an upscale Mediterranian place next door which does gourmet food) but the beef tips with Guinness Sauce is heavenly. Check it out if in Springfield.

March 2006 Was in last weekend and they had St. Bernardus Tripel and Bigfoot on tap. Score!!! They bought the St. B glasses so I would guess it is going to stay on tap year round.

Quite the selection of brews here. I would guess somewhere around twenty beers on tap and lot more available in bottles. They also have nice glassware.

Atmosphere is what I would call just above average bar vibe. Daytime in general isn't crowded at all. Weekend nights are overwhelmed with dorky college kids drinking irresponsibly and being loud. People easily offended by smoke might have issues, as air circulation seems poor.

This establishment seems to have a policy about only hiring women to work out front, because I've been here over a half dozen times and never have seen a man working. Not that I care, but almost all of the girls working don't have a great knowledge of beer.
Also, every time I've been to Patton Alley the best seats at the bar are taken by psuedo-wanna-be hippies that talk on cell phones and drink crap beer and mixed drinks and do not leave. WTF? Shouldn't they be in a drum circle or something?

I've been in a few times when they were out of quite a few beers on tap. It seems like the Rogue Dead Guy Ale is their big seller, and that's cool with me, but I wish they would keep at least one IPA or something with hop smack to it in the regular line up of taps. Right now the only IPA they carry is Goose Island in the bottle, which is good, but I'm greedy.

My in-laws live in Springfield, and I find myself there about every other month. In searching for a pub with the best beer selection, I have found the Patton Alley Pub. The pub has a few dozen beers on tap, which includes many regionals (Boulevard, New Belgium), imports while keeping very few of the major domestic brands on tap. The bottle selection is great. Always a good selection of Belgians and hard to find in middle America domestics. I enjoyes a Rogue Imperial Stout during my last trip.
The atmosphere is fine. It's a little loud as it is an open area (think warehouse with 15 foot tall ceilings). The food is fine. It is the typical pub grub. I'd eat next door at Agrarios and then walk to the pub. Service is decent enough.
Overall Opinion? This is THE pub to visit when in Springfield.
