About the best place in Springfield to hoist a pint. There are about 20 rotating taps (original plan was to have 32 but there aren't enough beer distributors with a large selection of beers to choose from) and another 50 or so in the bottle. For beer snobs, its nice to see a place that DOESN'T have mega-brews on tap. If you want any of the megas other than Miller Lite you gotta go bottle or go elsewhere. Rogue Dead Guy Ale (according to the owner) is his top seller and goes for $2 a pint during happy hour!!!! The food ranges from pub grub to slightly upscale (the owner also has an upscale Mediterranian place next door which does gourmet food) but the beef tips with Guinness Sauce is heavenly. Check it out if in Springfield.

I have a long history with Patton, so I'm just going to outline my Pros/Cons.
Pros:
Large beer selection
Reasonable prices
Food for when you're drunk & hungry
Some good live music

Cons:
Half of the time said beer selection isn't available (sold out)
Don't clean lines often enough
Only serve beer, *all beer*, in pint glasses
Service wavers between excelelnt and terrible

I've gone here for years, but at this point, at least for me, there are better places in Springfield to get beer.

Patton Alley Pub has an excellent college vibe and seems always packed. The last time I went it was very crowded. This is a good pub.

They have decent service, I won't knock them for taking long on orders as they were incredibly busy.

They have a decent selection of over 40 on taps and even more in bottles. They have a few local breweries on tap as well as regional brewieries like Boulevard and New Belgium.

I didn't try any of the food, just some beers.

The Price is reasonable. Next time I go out on the town in Springfield I will be sure and stop here again.

Stopped in after having dinner at the Springfield Brew Company just around the block. The selection was excellent for a college pub. Was told by some friends who live in Springfield that it's usually pretty crowded, but when we went there was almost nobody in the place, which was nice. The bartender was obviously a fellow beer geek and was good w describing the available beers and even hooked us up w some samples (not sure if this would have been possible if the place was packed). Prices seemed pretty standard, and they had a range of beers from your basic 3-4$ lager to some pricier high-gravity specialty brews. Had probably two dozen beers on tap and about double that in bottles, so a pretty eclectic selection. I would definitely stop in again if I'm in the area.

Stopped in on a Wednesday night around 8pm and sat at the bend halfway down on a long wooden bar.

Located in the downtown local entertainment district so other options in the area in terms of shopping, food, entertainment.

A very large but cozy interior with a significant bar and lots of beer advertising both new and historic. The other, back half of the bar was sort of closed. It had a stage and a soundboard so I assume it would be for "large" acts. They had a band playing during my visit with only about 20 people in the bar.

On to the beer. I counted 43 taps with about four of those having Crown Royal bags indicating they were out or down. Boulevard, New Belgium, Schlafly, and Mothers (local Springfield brewery) all had multiple beers. Odell 90 Shilling and Big Sky Moose Drool (which I went with as beer two). I had a Boulevard Zon as beer one. Both beers tasted clean and fresh indicating they take good care of the product and tap lines.

Diverse bottle list with nine common Belgians.

Only minor drawback was the bartender could have been a bit more friendly and known more about the product. When I asked what the Zon was, she said "something like a Belgian but not very good" and then offered a taste. I found it to be quite good.

Relative to the area, this is a great place for beer and I would come again and recommend it with the understanding of what beers are available in this part of the country.

This is one of the go to places for good beer in Springfield.
It's a laid back atmosphere with friendly, attentive bartenders who usually know their beer, and a great tap and bottle selection. Happy hour all day Sundays, with half price domestic taps (all craft) and appetizers. They make some pretty damn good wings and beer cheese dip too. Lots of taps, including some rarish stuff, some decent Belgian beers, and they rotate seasonals. They get bands in pretty often, usually local ones.
There's fancier bars, and other Missouri bars have better selection (like Flying Saucer), but this is definitely my favorite in town.
