On tap at Black Horse

A- very light yellow with very little head.

S- Vanilla is pretty prominent, and some malts.

T - the vanilla is there and some malts

M- light and fairly carbonated.

D- I didn't like this one, the other Black Horse beers I had were pretty good though. I just probably don't like the style too much.

Appearance: Cloudy golden, with a rich white head and simplistic tree-line lacing.

Aroma: Vanilla cream soda all the way, straight up!

Taste: Light in body, sweet vanilla accents are definitely up-front yet not overbearing. This seems to be a novelty beer, attempting to recreate a cream soda in beer form but neglecting the beer aspect. This one lacks in complexity for sure.

I'm not sure what it is with this style - many seem to attempt it, and few do it well. This beer, unfortunately, falls squarely in the latter category. Aroma is prominent vanilla, as one would expect, a bit artificial. In the flavor the one-dimensional aspect of the vanilla continues - a cheap vanilla extract rather than a vanilla bean flavor. Sweetness is well balanced for the style, enough to compliment the vanilla, but not so much that it overwhelms. The vanilla character is critical for this type of beer, and here it just does not work.

This is one tasty ale. Pours an ever-so-slightly cloudy amber/red color with a medium sized white head. Smell is a strong creamy vanilla. This beer is easy to drink, flavorful, but not overpowering on the vanilla so you can still taste the malt flavors in the beer. This is new for me, but I recommend it if you are into beers like this.

Served up in a flight of 2 oz. samples.

Pours a clear, pale straw color, with a very slight white cap that leaves behind very little in terms of lacing.

Vanilla dominates the nose, with nothing else able to be detected.

Light in body with a mild carbonation, the flavors are very reminiscent of cream soda, with big sweet vanilla and caramel balanced by a faint hint of bittering hops, leading through to a dry, clean finish with slight vanilla notes lingering.

I would categorize this more in the realm of a Cream Ale than a Blonde; overall, it is quite distinctive and not too bad, but the vanilla is a little too heavy-handed and overpowers. Vanilla is a powerful ingredient and should be used with caution; in the case of this ale, it is obviously dealt out too freely, resulting in a brew that resembles vanilla ice cream more than it does beer.

A: Served a pale yellow color with a small head that fades slowly and very little lacing.

S: Aroma is all vanilla.

T: Taste is mostly vanilla, muting the other characteristics. Reminds me mostly of a Cream Ale.

F: Fairly light body, creamy smooth.

O: fairly easy drinker, but for me one and done. I know better than to have fruit or flavored beers but every once in a while...I stay from the path.I beleive this should be listed as a Cream Ale not a blonde as that is how it is listed by the brewery.

Just a bad beer. Terrible idea and terrible execution.

I've tried it several times and it's just disgusting. I will admit that I'm biased against flavored beers but this goes beyond that. It smells like cheap vanilla, the mouthfeel is oily, and the taste is weak and overly sweet. I get this one just to see the expression on people's faces!

From the tap, it pours a pale gold with a small head. The vanilla scent fills the nostrils and entices...so long as you are a vanilla fan...The taste definitely follows the nose. Do NOT buy if you are NOT a vanilla fan!
