I stopped by the Blackhorse Pub & Brewery the first time as the pizza was rated best in the area. Which I can agree with. The rest of their menu is not bad either. It is a very comfortable pub in the downtown area of Clarksville. Parking can be a challange at times.

They have a good selections of beers on tap. I enjoyed the Barnstormer Red & Coal Miner Stout best. The bartenders & servers are friendly and seem to be very knowledgable on the brews. Great place to relax, enjoy a brew and share a conversation. I make an effort to stop by when ever I am in the area working.

Clarksville, Tennessee's only microbrew. Many locals rave about the food. The only unique thing I've had on the menu is the Tunisian Pizza which was good. Their pizza is OK otherwise. Their beer overall is pretty watered down. It isn't robust or all that flavorful. Kind of like when my nieces get their juice with half water in it to dilute it. I go off and on still due to Clarksville's poor selection of restaurants and beers but I am usually happier to get a six pack from the House of Brews or get some commercial beers at Old Chicago.

I went here while passing through Ft. Campbell I had heard great things and was not disappointed. I'll start with the bad. It gets extremely crowded especially on the weekend but I still got in quick. The parking is a bit of a bugger. I also thought it was pricey but on the other hand the quality was good. Other than that I liked it. It has a nice pub like atmosphere with a lot of breweriana. The staff was very nice and knew their beers. The food was great. The beers were so-so but oddly loved the chili-chocolate beer. Which for me is strange because I am not a big fan of neither chili nor chocolate beers but the combination was amazing. I like their use casks in their beers though. Overall worth giving a shot.

Stopped at this place while passing through the state. Sat at the bar for lunch, already a decent crowd for 11:30am. Browsed the menu and was intrigued by the vanilla cream ale. Strong vanilla aroma and taste but pretty good. As I drank more I found the vanilla too be too much. Food was decent but nothing mind blowing. Could tell my roasted red peppers came right from the jar and on to my sandwich. Had the cask ale which was a bourbon barrel scotch ale that was brewed with oak chips. You can tell. Aroma is of booze soaked oak. Big on the bourbon flavor with a woodsy background. After a while it seemed as I was just drinking bourbon, could not find the ale anymore. Did not care for it and was starting to feel bummed about their beers. Overall I will say I liked this place, nice building in a great location. Wish I could have sampled more, may have changed my opinion.

The bar is in a nice location in the historic district of downtown Clarksville. The atmosphere is nice and cozy. The tap room upstairs is a great place to hang out in the evenings for drink and conversation.

The food is decent. Their beer cheese is definitely their premier appitizer. Tuesdays are large pizza for the price of a medium. They have a great brick oven and their garlic crust is great.

If you live in Clarksville, their mug club is one of the best bar deals around. For $50 you get a lifetime membership which gets you a shirt and 2 for 1 beers. Obviously, this can pay for itself fairly quickly is you're a regular.

Their red is definitely their best beer - great malty character. The Blackhorse Ale is weak, only slightly better than your cheap American lager. The stout is good but not particularly complex. It goes very well as a black and tan with their vanilla cream ale. The have a several good rotating seasonals including a brown, porter, barleywine, oktoberfest.

I've been meaning to review this place for quite some time. I make it a point to stop by here when I take a trip to Tennessee to visit relatives. The atmosphere is very come-as-you-are. No dress code to worry about that I was aware of. The place seems to be kept up. Its a nice venue, and not some dive-bar. The service is quick, and the staff at least know what they are serving. They have a good selection of brewed beers and food. As far as pizza, they are really hard to beat, but they also make a great burger. Its not gourmet food, but its way better than fast food. The beer, IMO, is really great, especially for the area. I know most people slam their Vanilla Creme Ale, but I loved it. Its different, and off the beaten path. And of course the food and service is great. The prices are also reasonable. They have good specials during the week. Overall, I was impressed, and thats why I stop in whenever I get the chance.

The Blackhorse is one of my go-to places every time I head home from college or grad school. It's a good place to go with buddies or family, and it's a warm, inviting atmosphere. There's a lot of wood and exposed brick; one of my favorite touches is the painting of old beer labels from TN and other Southern states over some of the exposed brick. It looks a lot cooler than I'm describing it, I promise.
The beer is only a "meh" in my book. Nothing too outstanding, nothing too terrible. Most of it is kind of watery and not very flavorful, except for the vanilla cream ale, which tastes like vanilla extract. They usually have 5 beers on tap, though, and they're always a pretty good range of styles. Plus, you're not going to find many (perhaps any) restaurants in Clarksville that serve anything other than macros,
The food, though, is fantastic. Brewpub or not, it's one of my favorite places to eat in Clarksville. The beer cheese and tortilla chips are divine, and the pizzas are pretty tasty with garlic crusts. Good, diverse menu; maybe a little expensive for what it is, but quite tasty.

Overall: A good option if you're in Clarksville and want something other than a BMC product or an imported macro. Good food, reasonable service, and enough TVs to watch any game you want to see.

A very comfortable place - lots of brick and genuinely pub-ish. The beers were acceptable, but nothing to rave over. The brewer seemed to shy away from more than the most minimal level of hops, across the board. On malt oriented beers like the stout, this was okay, but the pale ale and ESB were wanting. All the beers shared a rather low level of carbonation. The food was quite good. Appetizers we sampled included homemade potato chips and tortilla chips with a spicy beer cheese. A flatbread pizza was wonderfully thin and crispy. I'd like to try more items on the menu. The waitstaff was little slow in tending to us, even though we hit the place on a down time and the crowd was not very big. In a rather odd exchange, one of our table ordered a mixed drink with ginger ale. What came was an odd color, and he asked the waitress about it. She said that they did not have ginger ale, so they "made their own" by mixing a splash of Coke with a glass of Sprite. I guess if you poured in half a beer it would be rootbeer. All in all, a very pleasant place, with food that is better than the beer.

The Blackhorse is a high quality beer pub. Downtown Clarksville in an old brick building, it has a good amount of rustic charm. Overall, the place is well kept and mid to high-end range establishment. Quarters are a touch tight, but there are a number of rooms to check out. Downstairs is the restaurant area with solid food (pizza’s good) and an average size bar. They have sampler trays of all the brews and the plumbing and some of the sacks of barley are in plain view. Upstairs is another bar/game area with a little more space. Lots of brick and well-worn dark wood help the ambiance out.
Beers vary a bit. The Stout is my pick of the litter, and my buddy always gets a mix of the Vanilla and the Stout, also a recommended choice. Service was good, and the crowd seemed like a mix of college and local folks. If you are in town, it’s a must visit.
