Poured into a teku from a 375 mL bottle.

It's got a hazy orange/copper aroma with a few visible carbonation bubbles making their way north. The head is light, airy and foamy with a pale white color. 4.25

A fruity aroma like cherries is prominent, but this has that earthy funk and some acidity to it. Very sour on the nose and there's even something that suggests salt. 4

Peach, cherry and other orchard fruit combine with the earthy funk and horse blanket taste. There's a bit of graininess, grapefruit and citrusy aftertaste and a peppery saison-like feel. 4.25

It's funky, yeasty, highly carbonated brew with a heavy does of sourness. There are moments of acidity but nothing overbearing. It's light bodied and feels very lively on the tongue like champagne. 4

It's a good beer. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I think this hangs with many of the marquee beers out. 4.12

2012 Vintage at L'autre Eoil in Aylmer. From notes.

A - Poured hazy golden with two fingers of white head. Good carbonation for the style. Spotty lace and a good finger of retention.

S - Wine, lot's of grape, vinegar.

T - Grape, wine, white wine, apple cider vinegar, not too tart it would seem.

M - Strong carbonation, medium body, nice tartness to finish.

O/D - A nice Gueuze to sip. Lacks the epic complexity and touch of sweetness of others, but it was still a good one. Definitely not as tart as other examples.

Best before 2031.

Appearance: Nearly translucent golden ale with a stream of bubbles cascading upwards to one finger of off-white froth.

Aroma: Tart/sour yeast esters. A distinct dryness as well. Something a little off-putting as well, likely from the green bottle.

Taste: Semi-sweet up front with a moderate level of tartness. The finish is a little disheartening due to an off-flavor akin to wet dog. Nice dry bready flavor in the aftertaste. Not really any hop presence but wasn't expecting any. Enjoying the lack of sweetness that comes out in other lambics. 6% ABV seems kind of high but believable.

Mouthfeel: Between thin and medium in body with carbonation near the level of champagne but more quaffable. Average drinkability.

Final Thoughts: First experience with the style but a good one. Memorable for the dry tart flavor. Would I drink it again? Sure.

375ml Bottle as a Christmas gift:
Golden to orange with a 1cm, bubbly white head & strong visible carbonation. Head goes fairly quickly though.

Strong with sour notes, strong citrus & a few other fruits such as apple & pear. Definitely a sour one with some yeast & tart. It also seems quite acidic with hints of grapes, almost like a white wine on the nose with some spice & further hints of citrus.

Funk & tart to start, a huge amount of citrus with some apple, orange & pear. Quite in your face with white grapes coming through too. Again almost seems like a white wine in places.

Highly carbonated with a strong tang on top of a medium body & a very dry, sour mouthfeel that is crisp too.

Only my second ever gueuze style one but it was quite a nice beer, definitely one that started to grow on me as I worked my way down the glass. Perhaps too sour for my tastes initially but from the half way point on wards it started to go down very easily.

A: Golden yellow looking like thick lemonade, with lots of yeast particles floating within. 3 fingers of yellowish raw egg white head, nice lacing.

S: Fruity, lemony, oak cask, sweet peaches and pears, very fruity and floral. A little rubber, minerals.

T: Lemon juice, light bitterness almost like a grapefruit pith. Rubber and minerals come through. Not nearly as sour and acidic as other gueuzes, its almost got a light sweetness like an unripe peach.

M: Medium thin acidic body, highly carbonated. The cork popped off as soon as the cage was open.

O: Excellent. Bought in Birmingham, AL, drank Aug 3rd in Hopkinsville, KY.
