a tasty kriek, more of an introduction to the style, better than some of the more prevalent ones in the american market, but still more fruit and sugar than lambic and the funky sourness that comes with it. i think their oude kriek is one of the best cherry beers ive ever had, this one lacks the maturity, the dryness, and definitely the pucker. murky blood red in color it looks really cool in the glass, hazy and with a very sweet aroma. a little medicinal on the nose, but the flavor of the cherry is very good. for me, i like the more mature, sour versions of the lambic, these get sweet for me. 4% abv is low, if they let this ferment to 5% abv i think it would be an even better beer, it needs to be a little dryer for drinkability, but for those not familiar with real belgian kriek, this might be a great place to start. their oude kriek stands as one of the best all time, and this to me felt like an inferior little brother, but if we had them the other way around, i might like it a little more. still, well made and real authentic. worth picking up.

Decent cherry flavor but way too sweet for me.

375ml caged and corked bottle, sort of the little brother to the Oude Kriek Vieille, I gather.

This beer pours a clear, dark magenta amber hue, with three fat fingers of puffy, fairly creamy, and mildly bubbly pale pink head, which leaves some thick swaths of low-lying fog lace around the glass as it slowly sinks away.

It smells of semi-sweet and tart cherry juice, earthy yeast, gritty pale malt, a touch of sugary caramel, faint funky notes, and softly leafy, weedy, and grassy hops. The taste is more candied cherry, with a decent enough tartness offset, pale and wheaty malt, a tame red vinegar sourness, ethereal Belgian yeast, and sort of musty, earthy, and wet grassy hops.

The bubbles are nice and zippy in their tight frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, with a thinning from all the fruitiness apparent almost from the get-go. It finishes on the sweet side, the cherries seeing this one through, alongside a growing musky, somewhat funky astringency.

Definitely on the sweeter side of Belgian Krieks, but not quite approaching the Lindemans horizon. Enough tart and musty yeast character presides, allowing for a more or less enjoyable and drinkable sour cherry beer, even if the shelf price of this offering does not exactly scream out 'buy me again and again'.
