Finally found my notes from my honeymoon in France.
Sampled on draft from a 500mL Hoegaarden Grand Cru tulip glass at the Café Leffe in Lille, France on August 6, 2003.
Appearance: Cloudy, almost glowing pale yellow with a big, white, sponge-like head. Good head retention and some nice lacing to boot.
Smell: Like the version we get in the US on steroids. Some similar notes of bananas, cloves, wheat, and honey, but with much more. Scents of more tropical fruits and additional white pepper and spices. Some added esters and medicinal scents, most likely due to the higher ABV.
Taste: Malt with citrus sweetness mingle with bananas, cloves, white pepper, and other spices. The wheat taste dances throughout the middle and out the back leaving a light dryness. Medium bodied, yet almost chewy with nice carbonation that plays well on the tongue. The finish is a nice balance of spices like coriander, citrus peel, white pepper, and a myrid of other spices. Very complex flavor profile.
This is a truly wonderful beer, and incredibly easy to drink. But beware for as easy as it is to drink, it packs a punch and is not as friendly the next morning.
Serving type: on-tap

excellent beer that stands up well against any other Belgian Strong Pale Ale in the World right now.
Aroma: Belgian yeast and spice
Taste: clove, spice, pepper with some slight cinnamon
Overall: A well balanced, smooth and tasty Belgian Strong Pale Ale, that is enjoyable all year round
