This was brought back to me by a friend who went to Europe. An interesting novelty, to be sure. I suppose she just got the most portable one she could find: the child-school-lunch size 15 cl can. The can itself looks like it would fit right in with a kid's school lunch, all shiny with pink swirly graphics and berries. The beer inside is just about as kid-friendly as can be too. It's sorta like fizzy Kool-aid. Syrupy raspberry aroma along with more of same in flavor. There's just a hint of witbier-ish tang to it, but the main character is raspberry punch through and through. Either kiddie-beer or very far down the chick-beer path. This is born out by my wife's instantly liking it at first sip. She's welcome to the other wee can of it.

A: Dark pink color with reddish hues, quite cloudy. The head is about 2 cm and has a light pink color. It settles fast and leaves small lacings. Of course, this looks kind of weird judged as a witbier, but it's actually quite good looking and since it's brewed with fruit juice, I assume that the pink color is ok.

S: A weak smell completely dominated by candy-like raspberry aromas. Faint notes of wheat, yeast and vanilla sugar. A boring smell, not very pleasant.

T: The taste is actually just bad. It's weak and one-sided. It's very very sweet, and I mean like sugar, with almost nothing else than cloying candy-like artificial raspberry flavors. No tartness what so ever that could balance the sweetness. Some notes of banana, wheat, faint spices, yeast and perhaps some malts. The finish is short and just has some faint notes of raspberries to it.

M: This is actually the worst part of this beer. It's sticky and it clings onto the mouth in a very unpleasant manner. After a while, it gets really disturbing. Medium body, low levels of carbonation.

D: This is simply just a really bad beer. I had trouble finishing a glass of it, and I can't come up with a single reason to drink it again. Not recommended.

Bottle sampled on 6 April, 2008.

The beer poured a cloudy brownish-red color, almost iced tea looking. The head was about half inch, off white head that quickly receeds to a nice ring and island in the middle. The nose was very floral, big grapefruit and citrus. The taste was refreshing and berry but not overly syrupy as I was expecting. Other than that, there is not much else in the taste worth noting. More like a fruit drink. I think I dumped the rest.

250ml can, 3% ABV, a single (dubbed 'Rosée' here) procured for a twoonie and a loonie (how could I pass that up?) at the best new liquor store in my formerly remote-seeming home town. Oh, and only 90 calories for all you concerned with your overindulgence over the past month. Me, I'm still at it.

This beer pours a cloudy, muddled pinkish-orange colour, with one finger of limply foamy dishwater beige head, which leaves a few instances of bleeding sandbar lace around the glass as it hastily fades away.

It smells predominantly of semi-sweet green raspberries, some musty leafiness, a further blended, tart fruity character, a very soft wheaty graininess, and flinty, plastic, sugary notes. The taste is rather sweet raspberry, strawberry, and apple puree, another sort of alien metallic sugar essence, faint grainy wheat malt, some untethered acidic citrus, and very little, if any, hop offset.

The bubbles are rather sedate, the body a sugar-enhanced medium weight, and kind of pithy, but smooth enough, I suppose. It finishes still sweet - mixed-berry fruit, fake sugar - and little else.

While not all that offensive - it's really just a slightly malty fruit beverage- it's the various soda-pop manufacturing tactics so evident in the list of ingredients that put me off the most. A patently unnecessary dumbing down of a more or less venerable witbier name.

(bottle courtesy of Fata2683!!). Pours a cloudy apricot color with off-white head. Aroma is loaded with tart raspberries, hard candy and some wheat. Taste is sweet from the raspberry and malts. Thin bodied with a smooth fruity finish. I know its not cool to like this but I think this is a super-easy drinking beer and it tastes great. Heaven forbid a fruit beer is ranked highly.

Appearance: Cloudy rose colored. Nice lacing. White head

Smell: fruity smell here. Very nice

Taste: Way too sweet. Not appetizing. Tastes like a bad cherry pie.

Mouthfeel: Syrupy. Heavy bodied.

Overall: Not a great beer. I would not drink it again.

Bottle at Meneer Nilsson, Amsterdam, Netherlands

A: The beer is hazy rosé in color and has a light amount of carbonation. It poured with a thin whit head that died down and left a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of sweet raspberries are present in the nose.
T: Lie the smell, the taste is rather sweet and has flavors of raspberries-but of the artificial syrup type.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink and somewhat refreshing but the sweetness prevents it from being thirst quenching.

25cl brown bottle drank 5 days before its Best before Date, 17th Aug 2008.

Poured into a 'Mort Subite' flute.

Cloudy, murky blood orange colour with a head that has a hint of redness in its makeup. A lot of carbonisation rising through the cloud to the head.

Raspberry aroma, mixed with other red berries and sweet grapefruit. A fairly sweet smell, but not overally sickly.

Aimed at the young/female side of the market, I am not sure the old brewery owners would have made such an obvious 'alco-pop' style beer. The sweetness of the aroma carries on through to the taste, but this time it is a bit sickly and one small bottle is enough for me. The other three in the pack were given to Ladies to try and they all enjoyed them.

Mouthfeel is fine, if you like sugared fruit juice with bubbles. I didn't really take to it.

Different and sweet, not my 'Cup of Tea'.

Nose of raspberry that is still quite pronounced with a mouth slightly acid and sweet. The taste of beer is not present but we feel certain keys wheat specific Witbier. There is a little bitter, somewhat weak in the finish. And although no noticeable saturation excessive sugar or syrup, beer is too much to think of grenadine to be significant.
