Sunrise Saison opens to a fruity nose, the strawberry and rhubarb additions immediately apparent, lending a dominating overtone of strawberry-rhubarb pie. Brown sugar and vanilla add more sweetness, as do a selection of cherry and berry fruit esters, which combine with the strawberry and rhubarb to produce a bubble gum-like aroma that borders on cloying. There are a few other aromas in here, including biscuit, pie crust, toast, and very faint hints of sweet pink grapefruit, but the aforementioned fruits and sugars easily occupy perhaps ninety percent of the aromas. As a whole, while the sugars in here are quite potent and varied, offering a surprising variation in fruits and pie fillings, they do border on cloying, and the bubble gum feel is distracting.

On the tongue, the strawberry and rhubarb notes are slightly more muted, compared to their aromas, but still very present adding sweet strawberry and astringent, bitter rhubarb notes, the rhubarb being slightly the stronger of the two. These are added to helpings of brown sugar and cherry and berry fruit esters. The Saison part of the beer brings in bits of banana and peppery clove, as well as a slightly sour, funky spiciness that, when combined with the fruit esters and added fruits, does blend into a nice peppery, spicy fruit turnover feel, the spiciness almost adding a cocktail-strong feel of alcohol, though the ABV is only 6.5%. Toast crust, baguette, and lots of biscuit add a pie crust taste. The aftertaste is a continuation of the main mouthful, but with even stronger Saison notes, and the bitter rhubarb becomes even more present, and lingers on the tongue for a good while. Mouthfeel is medium-light to medium, and carbonation is medium to medium-strong, fizzing up on the tongue.

Overall, this is slightly above-average fare. There are a lot of flavors in here, and all of them are present in good strength. The problem mainly lies in the combination of all of these flavors, which lends the beer a “kitchen sink” feel, as if a strawberry rhubarb pie recipe had been altered by throwing in bananas, cherries, berries, peppery spices, and touches of spiced rum, the result being a dessert not entirely sure of what flavors it was supposed to showcase. Simplicity, here, would have been better.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours a clear amber/orange. Large particles in suspension. Head formation and retention is awful. Just a few whispy patches of lacing.

S: Fragrant with a strawberry-banana scent. Subtle orange peel. Shortbread. Touch of vague spice and some tropical ester. Ghost-like tartness. Cleaner than the average saison.

T: Spicy up front with tastes of cinnamon, coriander, and pepper. Strawberry-banana, orange marmalade. Shortbread and a hint of toast. Hop oils are briefly encountered. Finishes with a strawberry shortcake impression and a lingering peppery spice.

M: Light to medium bodied. Very bright and crisp with an aggressive carbonation. Creamy.

O: Really not saison-esque in the least, the yeast is far too neutral for that. If you can get past the fact that it isn't a saison, it's a decent beer. The strawberries really pop, and its crisp, refreshing properties mean that it will hit the spot on a summer scorcher.

An aggressive pour still only yields a light fizzy head covering that fades fairly quickly and forgets to leave lacing, over a semi hazy nectar darker orange colored beer.

NOse is a little weird, it has some saison aromas, light wheat like and almost hay malts, hint of saison spices, but quickly turns to fruity aromas, blood orange, little fruit punch, clementine, strawberries actually kinda fresh, a light rhubarb too, but it has a syrupy fruit syrup like aroma as well which gives it that candy like.

Taste brings tons of strawberry, fresh strawberry, a little juice, again syrupy strawberry candy, a light tart bitter rhubarb, fairly fruity, a light clementine citrus again I think from the saison this time, light saison spices which actually go well with the fruit and the bitter tangy rhubarb, light wheat and malts, fluffy, and a light but decent bitterness I think mostly from the rhubarb. Finish is a bit sweet and sticky, little syrupy still, more candy flavors, a little fruit but that mostly dries up, little strawberry syrup sticks to the sides of the mouth.

Mouth is med to lighter bodied, little sticky and syrupy, carb on the lighter side.

Overall OK, I hate to say it but more of a "girly" like beer. It has some nice flavors, but they seemed to get sweet and more candy like for the fruits. The rhubarb adds a nice interesting bitterness and some tangy flavors, but not much, and the saison is mostly gone if it was there to begin with. However, still not a bad beer.
