This is a big, well-maintained shop that caters primarily to wine drinkers. However, the beer selection is solid, if not exceptional. A recent visit uncovered most stuff expected of a decent shop (Stone, etc.) with a few hard to find Belgians and the only Three Philosophers I've seen in southern California. RC also has a decent selection of German brews and, more importantly, some leftover bottles of Carnegie Stark Porter. The staff is friendly and helpful. Unlike some other shops that specialize in high-end wine, this place isn't full of attitude.

Am I too late? I saw a "for lease" sign on the top corner of the building, wondering if I was going to be buying beer here or not. Seeing a handful of tap beers listed outside raised hopes. Being able to walk inside assured it.

Now I think I'm under the for lease sign. It's a large interior with a tasting bar in dark corner, lots of empty floor space, refrigerated shelves that are 75% filled with beer and the rest awaiting occupation. I saw signs pointing to certain varieties of wine, yet there was no wine in said area. It looked like the place was closing. It was depressing.

Despite open shelves, there was still plenty of good beer available. Many large format bottles available, many occupied with West Coast beers like Bootlegger's, Stone, Coronado, Almanac, and Maui. I found some special release beers on the shelf too, like Firestone DDBA and Stone Enjoy By IPA. Imports are available too. Pricetags are posted for much of the beer.

Not sure if it only gets worse before closure or was just a coincidence. Time will tell.

I visited Red Carpet today since I was in the area. The atmosphere is good with an upscale feel and a selection of wine, liquor, and beer. There is a small tasting area inside the store where you can purchase beer and drink it there if you so wish. Service was good with friendly workers happy to assist me in finding a beer that was not on the shelf. All of their beer is refrigerated and all bottle dates seemed to be current. Selection was very good with a wide range of beer split up by geographic region in its own cooler. Prices were pretty reasonable for all of their beers. Lots of goodies on the shelf that I haven't seen anywhere else before. Overall, this is a pretty great store that I am sure to visit again in the future and I highly recommend stopping in if you are in the general area.

My girlfriend's dad has been coming here for year, so I figured it was time that I went to go check it out. Its a pretty big shop complete with a tasting area. They have about 7 coolers worth of beer and the rest of the store is dedicated to wine and spirits. The staff was really nice and seemed pretty knowledgable, although we didn't have many questions for them.

I was able to pick up Allagash Fluxus, which my roommate had been looking for. They have a pretty good selection and I'd definitely be interested in going back to see what else they get in.

I was recently at red carpet wine while on vacation with my family. Read some reviews about this place so I thought that it looked promising. The stores located in a nice neighborhood with a nice storefront. The inside looks even nicer.

All the beers located inside the glass coolers. They have a great selection of IPAs.. Bear republic, Ballast point, Alpine, Stone, and others which is just what I was looking for. But I was pretty bummed because I could not find any russian river brews. Oh well I thought to myself and proceeded to fill up my bin with 2 bombers each of the above mentioned breweries.

While I was making my selection I was approached by a friendly staff member. He asked me if I needed help finding anything.
I asked him if had any russian river brews. I told him where I was from and that I don't get out to cali that much. He went into the back of the store and came back with a supplication and consercation! Now I have a proper vacation stash of cali beer.

Overall a great stop for anyone seeking quality beer. Especially if your out of town. Very friendly staff . Wish I had a store like this at home.

First and foremost the help staff is very welcoming and immediately invites you to join their email list in a legitimately caring way, not some used car salesman push. I talked shop with Mike for a bit about Bruery releases and forthcoming sours and he was very knowledgeable.

The selection is a cut above most wine stores, better than K&L and I would say equal to Cap and Cork, just different based on your needs. Picked up a bottle of Biere De Mars, great lambic selection, mikkleller has it's fair share of representation as well. The SD local scene was a bit underrepresented but still a solid stable for favorites like Sculpin and a bevy of Stone products

I will return, particularly if this email list is as fruitful as represented. Sipping on a 1000 IBU right now to their credit, keep up the good work.

Red Carpet is not in my immediate area, but I do my best to make it a point to stop in when I'm in the area, on the way somewhere nearby, or coming back from somewhere that puts me within distance of Red Carpet.

Good quality, prices, and rotating selection of beer, (though could be a bit better) and they also of course have a good selection of wines and spirits (check out some of the whiskies if your interested)

They will set aside bottles of some things if you call ahead, and have a good email/newsletter list as well of new releases in stock too.
Also, the 95% of their beer selection is refrigerated too, which is a great plus as well.

Michael is the beer guy. Funny recent story too, ran into Michael at the CoLAboration/TDA 1st anniversary fest, which was ironic, since I was going to Red Carpet afterwards to get some Pliney the Elder for a trade, had I known he'd be there, I'd just ask if he could bring it (not sure if he would have, but anyhow)

Great spot if you live locally, or are on the look out for new releases.

Visited here on 2011-03-26.

Stopped in because I'd read they had a fresh batch of Hair of the Dog's Blue Dot DIPA. Called ahead and they graciously set a couple of bottles aside for me.

The building was easy to find and they have their own parking lot. The store features more wine than beer, but their beer coolers held an impressive collection of brews. I'd be happy if this selection was available in a bottle shop near me in Pennsylvania.

After giving me some time to browse the selection, a very helpful and knowledgeable fellow chatted me up about my preferences.

For those so-inclinded, there is a walk-in cigar humidor with a good-but-pricey selection.

Thumbs up for a friendly store with a good craft beer selection!

Great stop on my last day in town. Went in to grab just a couple bottles to toss in my luggage since I had some lbs to spare, and ended up talking to one of the salespeople (Miles) for nearly 30 mins. Very knowledgable about beer, despite being primarily a wine store. I definitely had fun pacing up and down the aisle of beer coolers trying to decide what 3 bombers to bring back to Wisco with me. Then had a nice chat with Michael about the beer selection and what upcoming beers would be available to ship home with me. Needless to say, a place I would stop again, just for the friendly service.

This is one of my go to places for good beers. If you are an avid beer collector/drinker get to know Michael and get on his e-mail list. He will inform you of special beers coming in that aren't on the shelf.

Some bottles that I have gotten from here recently include Infinium, Bitches Brew, Sculpin, Beast, and Fluxus 10 just to name a few.

If beer is not your forte, they sell an assortment of wines and spirits and have a cigar section as well. As mentioned before, you can purchase beers or wine and enjoy them in the wine area. They also have various tastings throughout the year.

This is one of my favorite places for beers.

One of the key things that I noticed that all the other reviews did not mention about this place is that YOU CAN BUY A BEER then DRINK IT AT THE TASTING AREA right away! They have wine glasses available for your use. I thought this is what makes this place awesome, you buy at store price and drink there like at the bars!

They have great selections, not as big as VenDome, but very decent.

The staff is very knowledgeable. Michael and Amy are awesome when it comes to recommendations and willingness to assist.

They also have a european style wine dispenser (for the girlfriend/wife) where you pay and try a pour. I wish they had one for beer.

The store is very nice. It feels more like a brewery than just a liquor store.

I love this place!

Great place, they have email listings.

Price is slightly more than Bevmo, but not by much, they have a higher quality selection than anywhere else in Glendale and neighboring areas. All of their beer is refrigerated as well.

Good service, and helpful people.

They also carry other goods, they are primarily a wine place, but they also have cigars, and hard liquors in addition to beer.

They also do wine/beer tastings occasionally throughout each month, which is a good way to expand your knowledge about alcohol.

edit: They now have a license to serve liquor in the store.
Buy beer from the store and have it in the store, glassware to grab. Pay liquor store prices and enjoy a beer or wine. They also now have cheese plates, a wine tap, and about 6 beers on draft.

The owners are very friendly and occassionally give out free samples. Everyone is is very knowledgable as well.

I like this place a lot! It's about 25 minutes from where I live, but it's worth the relatively short drive (for being in LA). Their beer connoisseur is Michael. Sign up for his email beer updates list.... They have a great (not mindblowing) selection, and have a good handful of hard to get beers. Your sure to find a few things that you were'nt expecting. I spent 20 minutes walking back and forth, between 7 or 8 fridges, trying to figure out what I wanted.

You usually know right away if a place knows its beer or not, and Red Carpet does. This is definitely a place to check out, better than 90% of stores in LA.

Living in downtown LA we have not as many options as we'd like for good beer. Either we go to Bottle Rock for the retail beer selection or we head out to Pasadena to the Bevmo. But I had been told about the Red Carpet, so I had to check it out cause I heard they carried Brew Dog (Scotland) Hardcore IPA, and I had found at only 1 other location (Wades Wines in Westlake Village, CA).
Red Carpet isn't a HUGE liquor destination, if you're looking for quantity than find a Bevmo, but if you're looking for quality you've found it. The selection is on the smaller side, but it's the finest you'll find in the area.
They have a great import selection (Belgium, Germany, Asia, etc) and a great craft selection (Stone, Lagunitas, Allagash, Victory, Maui, Port/Lost Abbey, Rouge, etc). If you want to geek out then by all mean this is where you go.
The only draw back to Red Carpet in my opinion and I am sure other people think differently is that everything is cold. I like to get some beers to cellar and it's hard at times when they are already cold. But its no sweat off my back, I'll keep going back.
I have yet to really have any interaction with the staff more than at check out, they seem nice. And I am sure are knowledgeable.
If you're within a 5-10 mile radius of Red Carpet venture in and take a look around, even if you don't buy anything its worth checking out.

I had to go out to Northridge the other day and stopped here on the way, as I had heard good things.

The beer section is to the right and goes along the back wall on the right side. The selection is quite eclectic. A decent smattering of German and Belgian beers, a pretty good good collection of American brews, including plenty of RR, Stone, Maui, Allagash, Lagunitas, etc.

There were a lot of empty slots, so it looks like the supplies tend to be limited and get snatched up pretty quickly.

The staff was friendly and asked if I needed help, but I was mostly just browsing and not looking for anything in particular.

The prices were pretty much standard, which is always nice to see.

I wouldn't drive out to Glendale just for this store, but it's certainly a good spot if you're in the area.

Quality: Above average collection of local / regional / rare stuffs.

Service: Mostly a good, friendly crew. I only wish that they did not ALWAYS have to point me toward Michael when I ask a beer question. Nothing against him, but it would be nice if they could answer something without needing him.

Selection: Good amount of hard-to-find stuff, a few rarities thrown in.

well with an ecclectic bottle selection, where do I start?

As son as you walk into this place youll notice a very nice sized Humidor. Spirits are right in front of you.

The beer section is to the far off right, from far it may not look like much but when in the beer Dept, first impression is WOW!!

They haave 10+ doors of great (delicious) beer, the first door focuses on German and "other import", after that a few doors Dedicated to Belgian Beer (can't go wrong there), then a few doors for Am. Craft were talking Allagash, green Flash, Stone, Avery, Bear Republic, Lagunitas just to name a few. last door or two is mostly macro/craft macro.

one thing I love about this place is that the beer buyer (Alex @ the time) was always finding new rare and specialtiy releases, that alone is an A+.

This was the second beer stop on my Vegas to LA trip.

A fairly good sized store, but about 90% devoted to wine. The beer coolers are towards the back right, and there's about 8 of them.

They had a pretty good selection of American craft brews, and a medium sized selection of imports. The number of actual beers was a bit smaller than where i usually shop in Vegas, however the quality of their stock was solid.

Service was good. I was asked within a few minutes if I needed help, and after that left alone to browse which I like. The staff seemed friendly.

Pricing was in line with everyone else, maybe even a buck cheaper here and there on a few beers.

This store is just off the 134 freeway, and worth a quick stop if you're passing by.

Red Carpet is my go-to place for the majority of beers that I consume regularly, for two main reasons: selection and proximity to where I live. The selection is certainly one of the better ones in Los Angeles, with a very strong selection of Californians (Port, AleSmith, Russian River), and a decent selection of Europeans (Rochefort, Samuel Smith, Piraat). The folks behind the counter are helpful, with the guys who sit way in the back having a good knowledge of breweries. They seem to get shipments fairly often, and have good turnover in their beers. Certainly one of the best in the Valley. Prices are what one would expect. They also have some pretty cool events, from wine tastings to BBQs & beer fests regularly. Highly recommended.

Red Carpet is my go to beer store in the LA area. Occasionally Vendome Toluca Lake, sometimes the Whole Foods in Glendale (right after here, just to peak), and rarely if ever Cap 'n' Cork (the closest)... if you're anywhere on the east side I can't recommend it enough. It's readily accessible off the 134, and from what I can tell they have excellent wine, liquor, and cigar selections as well.

But you're here about the beer. First of all... it's all in the fridge. There's a small section of primarily sours, then a fridge o' primarily German and English brews, Belgians, Belgian-styles, then several of other American craft brew, moving into the sixers (which they'll let you break apart). All-in-all it's thoughtfully selected, with a nice blend of dependable finds there combined with turnover. Prices are generally excellent, only occasionally will you find something higher than elsewhere (and if you let Alex know, he'll probably adjust it), and typically is cheaper (easily the best prices on Bruery and Firestone Walker beers I've found). Turnover is occasionally a problem... the fridges aren't huge and the place sees a fair amount of traffic, so it's not infrequent to see vacant swaths, but just ask... maybe they have some more in the back!

With a carefully measured selection that maximizes the available space there's certainly something here that you've been wanting to try (whether or not you knew it) and usually something well sought after... although a lot of times those are set aside in the back for even distribution (Alex is good like that). That said... due to space constraints there isn't an incredibly VAST selection like you'll find at Holiday Wine Cellar, or even the aforementioned Vendome Toluca Lake (although their beer is not always well cared for).

Their friendly staff seems to largely be slightly bemused and generally enthusiastic about the beers... but really there's only one person here I've found to talk shop with: the man himself, Alex. Quiet but friendly, proactive in offering assistance, he is the source of the store's beer enthusiasm, and he's a great resource for beer information in general as well as the local beer scene, and good person (from what I can tell) to boot. Request something? He'll find it and try to get it in. Special release? He'll set one aside. Worthy of cultivating a relationship with... and really, that's how this place is best used. Traveling from out of town and looking to do a binge buy? Probably merely an ok place to go. A local and looking to have your finger on the pulse of the beer scene? This is your place.

This shop is freeway close, has plentiful free parking, is clean, is staffed with friendly folks and has a good selection beers that are officially available in California.

There's also lots of wine and spirits.

Really, though, this store is all about Alex. Everyone else is very friendly and helpful, but only Alex knows about the beer. When I came in on his day off and asked about availability on Oskar Blues Ten Fiddy, the guys working shrugged, said it sounded like an Alex beer and suggested I come back when he was working.

Prices are reasonable and there is always "something in the back", so ask if you don't see what you're looking for. There will not be anything that's not officially distributed here, though, so don't ask.

I'm very happy I stopped in here and I'm now a regular. Can't wait to peruse the humidor when time permits... ah, cigars....

I stopped here today before driving home after I checked out Lucky Baldwin's , right off the 134 Freeway, pulled in to its own parking lot and walked through the doors, although there was no signs for where the beer was I found it quickly and made my way to the first of around eight fridge doors, I saw two Chapeau lambics that were Apricot and Kriek, first time I have ever seen those anywhere, also saw some Cantillon Gueuze and Iris, then I went to look for what I came for which was Bruery Autumn Maple and unfortunately they were sold out, oh well I found four other things anyways that were Alpine Ichabod 2008, Port Panzer Pilsner, Fish Tale Poseidon's Imperial Stout, and Hair of the Dog Adam, the bill was only around thirty bucks for those which was quite fair, they also had some cool things I passed on mainly because funds are low like Abbaye de Saint Bon Chien, Lost Abbey 10 Commandments, some interesting things from Dupont, most or all of Stone, Alesmith, Green Flash including Le Freak and Double Stout for the cheapest I have seen both of them, also three different Telegrpahs for eight bucks each, not the biggest selection overall but a good one, they have a cool wine tasting bar and a ton of other alcohol in this place, it is very clean and organized, looks more on the fancy side when you walk in and they are definitely geared towards wine even though they have a nice beer selection, prices were average on most things and more or less on others, the beer guy Alex was super cool and talked with me for about fifteen minutes about other places to check out around the area, answered some questions for me, and even sold me an Ichabod before it was out on the floor, I will definitely be going back when I am in the area, glad I make the trek out to Glendale, certainly worth checking out if you are within thirty miles or so

Perhaps they have more floor people later in the afternoon, though customer service should always be present. It was very easy to find off of the freeway and had a reasonable amount of parking space. Red carpet has an outstanding selection, by far the best in the area, probably one of the top few places in Los Angeles County to find good beer. While, it is not on the scale of say Bevmo in size, if you zero in on quality and leave out the crap their is no comparison. Prices are surprisingly reasonable for a "specialty" place. I actually find most my favorites inline or cheaper than Bevmo. What makes this place really special, and here is where the comparisons to Bevmo stop, is they know and care about beer. Alex the beer manager is knowledgeable and friendly and works hard to keep the good stuff in stock. If you tell him your preferences, he is always pretty quick with a good recommendation, but does not shy away from giving you his opinions on stuff that may not be up to par. For the last year or so they have been hosting monthly beer tastings that are absolutely fantastic. Great themes such as beer and cheese pairings, Belgians, Grand Teton, Holiday beers. They usually have special guest speakers, great food and interesting extras. This is definetly a place worth checking out for anyone who enjoys exceptional beer.

This place is very clean and stocked with a bunch of wine. There is a nice corner of liquor too. The beer is in about 8-9 coolers in the back. One whole cooler is devoted to Germany, one to the UK, about 1-2 for Belgian beers. Almost the entire import selection is in single bottles. I was a little disappionted with their US microbrew variety. There is definitely some good stuff - Lost Abbey Red Barn / Avant Garde / Lost & Found, Port Old Viscosity, 4 or 5 Stone Offerings, 4 or so Alesmith, 7 or so Rogue's, Russian River Damnation, a few different Green Flash (except no West Coast IPA), and some other stuff that isn't really too out of the ordinary. Nothing really rare or limited here I guess you could say... however, due to the fact that they are all in coolers that may be a reason to pick them over a BevMo for instance.

The service was really great, a couple different guys came up to ask me if I needed some help or a box or anything. The prices were about what you find everywhere else.

It was a very spacious and clean store.

Service was prompt and when I asked if they had any more of the Grand reserve brews in the back the staff searched but they were completely out. The selection was very good for the space they have. Well thought out. There was one cooler full of macro lagers and about 6 filled with crafts.

I found some Belgians that I've never seen before including a couple of rare Guezes. Very easy to find this location just off the freeway. Prices seemed in range with other beer stores although there were some offerings that were a buck more than my usual haunts. Smell of tobacco lingers thoughout but it wasn't unpleasant to me. I have better beer selections closer to my house but if I was living closer to Glendale this would be a no brainer pit stop. First of all, they have the legendary 3-liter bottles of Oaked Arrogant Bastard and Double Bastard, which I have never seen in person before. Not that I was really in search of these, but if I ever am, now I know where to find them nearby. Of course, for $65 a pop I don't expect that I will have this desire in the near future.

The selection is not as wide as Galco's or Cap N Cork, but it is still damn good. Beers occupy 7 or 8 refrigerators, away from the light, and only one of these houses American macros. The beers are divided roughly by geographic region; Germany, Belgium, and the UK all have their own fridge, and the rest basically belong to the Americas, except one that offered discounted winter seasonals from around the world.

So what did they have? Well, just off the top of my head... Saison DuPont, Affligem, Aventinus, Belhaven, Achel, Ommegang, Rogue, Stone, Abita, Lost Coast, Dixie, Anderson Valley, Delirium, Chimay (including a 3-liter blue label!), Bison, Gulden Draak, Piraat, St. Bernardus, Anchor, Rochefort, Alesmith, Unibroue, Achouffe, Kwak, Lindemans, Celebrator, Spaten, Sam Adams Chocolate Bock, and a mess of Germans I can't spell. My favorite surprises: a 2004 Hitachino Nest Celebration (!!!) and a Fantôme Chocolat. Awesome.

Service was friendly and helpful, if a little distracted. The place was clean, roomy, and mellow. And the best part? You can buy singles! I'll definitely be back.

I came to Glendale to visit my sister for a week and get some sun. Coming from Juneau, there is little sun and beer selection there. I went on a Tuesday afternoon and I was the only customer in the store for a while. (About five distributors were there.) The staff was very helpfull and pointed out some good local brews that I was happy to buy. They have a good specialty selection a lot of California brews and many belgian and german I had not tried before. They are not full of six pack of micros. mostly bombers. I'll go back once more before I leave for home. If I lived here I would probably go in a couple times a month for something new.

Decided to make a trip to this store after seeing it mentioned on the BA Pacific Group.

From the outside it looks small and it is not that big on the inside; but it isn't crowded inside either.

All the beer are in coolers on the right side of the store. Looks like they store their beer well but I did notice them trying to sell a single bottle of Bagel Beer. Bagel Beers company went out of business a long time ago.

Staff seems knowledgeable. The selection isn't as big as I could have hoped. This is a good place for hunting down the hard to locate brews. Not a bad place and the prices are reasonable but not as well stocked as Hi Times in Costa Mesa.

I had some business in the general vicinity of Red Carpet Wine and so I was able to check the place out.

A very clean and well run establishment. I stopped by in the afternoon and the wine bar was serving tasters for the clientele. This place is so clean and neat one could eat off the floor so to speak. They are very spot on about what they have to offer, which includes all alcholic beverages. Computers behind the registrars and employees who want to please. This store is working technology and using it to better serve their clients. Since this is mostly a wine shop the technology is used first for wine and beer and spirits second.

The service was exceptional. A clerk was at my side pointing out new arrivals and specialty beers from the moment my eyes gazed upon the cooler with beer. He knew plenty about the beer they were selling. We talked quite a bit about beer and their selection.

They have a walk in humidor and I noticed a three for the price of two sticker on the door for Tuesdays and Thursdays for cigar smokers.

The selection is quite good. Plenty from England, Belgium, Germany and of course America. Plus a nice variety of Casta beers. Some magnums of a few beers and other specialty items to be had. De Ranke XX Bitter is a nice find. Finding Fantome is always a plus. A couple craft beers from Italy as well. A very good selection. Prices were fair on some and over priced on others.

A side note. All beers are in the coolers. Excellent!

I highly recommend investigating this place for beer. It may not have too many obscure beers but they do have some that are not easy to find at other places with overall larger selections. Definately worth a look see.

Just a hop and a skip from the CA-134, as I was heading East I exited at Central Ave, stayed going ahead on Sanchez and turned left at Brand. Once you get to Glenoaks hook a right and Red Carpet Wine is not too far on your right hand side opposite ReMaxx of Glendale.

I am not sure why but I had images of parking being a problem here, well it is Glendale, however Red Carpet has its own Car Lot that takes around 20 or so Cars, and even on a Saturday lunchtime I found parking here easy.

Clean and well presented, it is well lit but retains a cool and darkened interior, this helps to keep the scorching Glendale heat at bay I’m sure. The interior is all about Wine and Spirits, the counter is to your left and it took me a while to locate the coolers that had the beer range I wanted to peruse. Yet I soon found them, to your far right against a wall are located 6 or so Coolers in a row that contain a nice assortment of brews.

To say this is obviously predominantly a Wine Store, the beer selection is well thought and nicely priced I thought. The coolers contain a nice assortment of Germans, Belgium, British brews in the first 2 or 3 coolers, followed by a nice selection of West Coast brews in the 2 coolers, then inevitably the range slows down to the Six-Packs, though there were some interesting selections here too. The last Cooler is taken over with macros, both domestic and imports. The range is better listed on the Website; take a look for up-to-date, offers. I picked up a 750ml of Fantôme Black Ghost, De Ranke XX Bitter (I very rarely see this beauty, in 750ml too!!!), Rogue XS Imperial India Pale Ale in the new fancy-schmancy charcoal flip-top container [I’m such a sucker for those], Rogue Morimoto Black Obi Soba Ale, Samson Crystal and a bottle of Salopian Entire Butt English Porter from the Motherland to get me in a good mood for my trip back home on Thursday.

Service was absolutely spot-on. Had been in the store for 30 seconds and was asked if I wanted help. I politely told the guy that asked that I was just looking and would be OK. So he left me to my pondering but before I headed to the checkout, he politely asked again if I found everything I needed and if he could be of help…again I said thanks but that I was fine. This may not sound special, but it was genuine service, the guy knew to leave me alone but ask just the once on the way top the checkout. Even at the checkout the service was with a smile and they even asked me if I wanted to come to their Belgium Beer Night & Tasting, sadly I will actually be in Belgium otherwise I would have taken them up on their offer. A nice touch and it shows that they genuinely want your return custom here – they will certainly get mine. Often in high end Wine Stores there is some attitude, it’s almost inherent I find, but there is absolutely none of that here. This is a very pleasant beer shopping experience, and if I wanted to learn about Wine, I would do it at a store like this for sure. Superb Service!

Worth well the drive out from Long Beach, I’m not sure I would go out of my way to come here on a regular basis, but I will most certainly return here several times a year for sure. However, if you are in Glendale, or even nearby Pasadena I would strongly recommend a visit to the Red Carpet.

A bit of background first. Last evening, my brother called and asked if I could get a couple bottles of DeuS for him. I told him it might be hard to come by, especially only a couple days before Christmas, but I'd look around.
Enter BA and BeerFly. A quick look through promising stores and I find Red Carpet Liquors in Glendale, not far from where I work. A quick call and a talk with Steve, the beer purchaser, and I've got a couple bottles tucked away waiting for me to pick them up. At lunch, I make the 10 mi. (25 minute) drive from downtown L.A. to Glendale.
Red Carpet Liquors caters mainly to devotees of wine and spirits. However, beer lovers shouldn't overlook this place. On entering, I bore right and encountered a row of coolers housing a nice variety of imported and domestic beers. On the left were the Belgian, German and British beers, including a nice selection of Fantôme's Babillard BBBrr, Black Ghost and Saison D’Erezée - Été, Gouden Carolus Noel and Carolus D'Or - Cuvée Van De Keizer, Saison Dupont and N'Ice Chouffe. German beers on hand were Kulmbacher Eisbock, Weihenstephan's entire line, Schneider&Sohn, and Klosterbrauerei Weltenburg, to name a few.
American brews, especially the West Coast, had a good contingent with solid line-ups by Bear Republic, Stone, Moylan's and Marin, Alesmith, Ballast Point, Humboldt, Avery (no Beast, thank God!), and Drake's gracing the shelves. I noticed Drakes imperial stout here. The last couple coolers were loaded with macros so I returned to the left and started sorting through my options.
I talked to Steve first and he produced the two bottles of DeuS for me. He was very helpful as were the rest of the staff. I also picked up a bottle each of Uerige Sticke, Aventinus Wheat Eisbock and Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock. The DeuS was $25 a pop and the rest were $4 a piece.
Overall, for a liquor store that does the lion's share of its business with the wine and spirit crowd, Red Carpet does a good job of offering a good selection of quality foreign and domestic beers. This store is well worth the stop.

Red Carpet Wine is one of my favorite places to buy from. They have an outstanding selection, very clean and well presented store, and a great staff. Steve, the beer buyer, is very friendly and pleasant to talk to. He's a great guy to share a pint with. Get to know him because he often has special gems hidden in the back and holds special events at the store for he frequent customers that he knows. This place is top notch and Steve put Red Carpet into a more elite category by purchasing great beers. He can also get beer for you by request and is always open to hear about new beers he should consider for stocking. If you live in the LA area and love beer you need to visit Red Carpet Wine and take in their fabulous selection and service. They are constantly expanding their beer selection and taking over new cooler space for all the new beers. Check it out!

I just visited this place for the first time after doing a search for some beers online. While they didn't have what I was looking for (Westmalle and De Koninck), they offered to order them for me and had a pretty comprehensive selection nevertheless.

Approximatley 6-7 full sized coolers for their beer. 1 cooler devoted to German and 1 to UK. 1 full cooler of various Belgians. Probably 2-3 coolers for american micros and another 2 (at end hidden against the wall) of macros.

Their head beer guy was in and he talked to me for probably 20 minutes about beer. Made some good recommendations for and even tasted a new beer (PBC's MacTarnahans' Gran Luxe Tripel) that he had just gotten in with me. He said they do beer tastings at least 4 or 5 times a year as well.

As stated in the above review, the focus of this place is definitely wine and liquor. But as far as beer goes, this is the best place I've found in LA for selection, price, and in-house service/knowlege. Whatever type of alcohol is your favorite, I really got the impression that the people who work in there love and appreciate what they're selling and love to talk about it with everybody who come's in there.

Let's make no mistake.. This is a wine and spirits store first, but when you walk into this very large and clean store to your right you;ll see 4 large micro/import cases. The beer selection tends more towards imports here than micros, but it a nice wide selection. Plenty of six packs of your better beers appear in the corners, but the amount of SoCal beer is weak.

They also have a yearly Oktoberfest celebration with pretty good results and availability.

Oh and if you like wine, they have a weekly wine bar with a wide selection of interesting wines. Also included in this store is a boggling selection of spirits.
