I gave this a vigorous pour because as I expected there wasn't a lot of head to give. A light covering is all I got. A dark golden colour.

I'm not sure where this is coming from but I swear it smells like a heavily wooded chardonnay (disclaimer: I pose as a wine wanker when not drinking beer.) A bit of tropical fruit. Actually quite appealing.

The fruitiness is found on the palate. A bit of maltiness in there as well.

Big mouthfeel with some nice acidic tingles.

Once upon a time I drank this a lot because it was the best beer available at the Metro in Sydney but I never though too much about it. Definitely the best thing that I have drunk from Tooheys.

Pours an off straw colour with very little head but it does leave some lacing on the glass. Smelled very faintly of malt and slightly fruity. Its taste quite actually surprised me. It is quite sharp and fresh with a smooth aftertaste. It sort of reminds me a bit of Tooheys New but with the edge taken off. Leaves a pleasant mouthfeel. Very drinkable.

This beer poured a nice deep golden color with a small tight head. Doesn't seem to have much aroma. The bottle says it's brewed with saaz hops, but I can't really taste/smell 'em. The beer does have a mildly malty flavor to it, and just enough hops to balance it out. The finish is nice and clean. All in all, it's a fairly tasty brew, and is very drinkable. I only wish it came in full size 375ml bottles.

This beer poured a bright, clear straw with a strong long lasting white head that left abundant lace on the side of the glass. A remarkable looking beer.

The flowery aroma was a bit offputting. It was not horrible, but did not truly fit the style.

The flavor was minimal. Just a hint of sweetness in the the finish. Not much else. Of course, that means there was no off flavors also,

The mouthfeel was superb. Crisp. clean and refreshing. Left a bite on my tongue long after the liquid was gone. This beer has surprising body for the style

A friend of mine went to Australia and brought me back a sixer. This beer is nice and I enjoyed drinking the them with my friends. But I would not pay import prices if they were to import it into Texas.

Appearance - 3.0
Pours a finger of frothy white head that steadily reduced to a thin layer over a pale yellow-gold body that looks to be moderately carbonated.

Smell - 3.5
Most unusually for the style, I could smell banana upon opening, although this quickly reduced although never disappearing. It's certainly a better smell than I would expect from a Toohey's, slightly malty sweet, a little fruity hops and a little of the expected damp beer mat macro smell.

Taste - 3.0
To me this tastes as much like a Kristal Weizen as it does a pilsener (which explains the banana aroma). Slight malt sweetness upfront, grain and slightly fruity (banana) and grassy flavour in the middle, finishes moderately bitter and dry. Aftertaste is not so good; metallic and boring. It's really not bad, quite refreshing, but it just doesn't taste quite right for the style.

Mouthfeel - 3.0
Slightly stinging but moderate carbonation, very crisp, feels light in the mouth and goes down quite smoothly.

Drinkability - 3.5
Definitely sessionable, despite the highish 5.2% ABV. I would choose this over most macro and euro pale lagers, although the metallic taste detracts.

OVERALL - 3.05
One of the most surprising beers I've reviewed. For a macro I'd say this is clearly above average. It's way off for the style, but it's also interesting, quite flavoursome, although not great quality and slightly metallic tasting. I'd try this again. On the inside of the bottle cap, it reads: "genuine pilsner, no competition". Both statements are complete crap, unlike this oddly likable beer.

(Served in a short strange)
A- This beer pours a crystal clear bright yellow body with a snow white head and a few strands of tiny bubbles trailing to the surface.
S- The smell is pretty clean with a soft pear hops aroma that is pleasant.
T- There is a soft tang to the hops hint with a slight fruity sulfury note and a light cream hint in the finish.
M- There is a light mouthfeel with a tight fizz finish.
D- This beer is pretty clean with a slight tangy but good hops with a lighter sulfur flavor. Pretty thirst quenching

The remarkable thing about this beer that it manages to challenge the palate and cause sensations, unfortunately none of those sensations are flavour.
It has great bitter finishing and a subdued and non cloying maltiness , but no distinctive flavour.
It has an ability to leave the mouth feeling dusty. I dont know how else to describe it but thats what it did.
This is stinking hot weather , I need I beer to slam down sort of drink so it does have its place.
Drink it if its free , dont get excited but it is better than plenty of others

Pours mid-gold, white frothy head.
Aromas of sulfur, subtle malt
Certainly tastes like a Toohey's product to me... in fact the first impression is Toohey's New out of a can. But there are additional notes, such as a slightly maltier character, and the Aussia macro-metallic POR character seems subdued. Apparently there is Saaz in this....
I'll grant it's better than a New in a can...but not by much....

well, i can't speak for the prior reviews but the aroma here isnt all that bad. a deeper gold color than expected and a compact white head make a not too bad looking beer.
the flavor does seem to be lacking though. it's not that it's bad, just missing that hop bitternes. too mellow.

Pours a rich golden colour with slight white head, medium carbonation. Carbs die out after a while, head sticks around fairly well though. No real lace. Looks fairly boring, but not too bad.

Fairly good pilsener smell, balance of malt and hops and a fair hint of soil. Quite herbal really, with a distinct metallic-coppery character. Not bad, reasonably pilsenery.

Palate is mostly watery, with a fair metallic hoppiness that floats to the surface towards the end, but yeah, pretty weak for the most part. It may have a slight malt somewhere on the mid but it's obviously watered down. The bitterness is the right sort of bitter for the style, makes this resemble refreshment, but the palate is far too weak and thin to be impressive.

Mouthfeel is very thin, virtually no body. This beer is kind of what I've come to expect from Tooheys. It does make me wonder though, why they bother with a "pilsener" - I never see anyone drink this beer, and seriously, it's the same weak piss as their other stuff. Why not put more effort into brewing their other beers and dump the packaging and advertising costs of this and other varietals?

Medium yellow color, medium head. Light malty smell with slight skunky/metal smell. Tastes the same, fairly flat nothing exciting.

Looks like a Toohey's, smells like a Toohey's... tastes like a Toohey's. Good thing I didn't step in it.

Not a bad beer, but not so much a pils. This beer isn't even a standard deviation away from a standard toohey's new.

Drank from my VB schooner glass.

A - Pours a golden colour with a small white head that stays around.

S - Wow it does have some malt character and hops.

T - A little hop on the finish but mainly a bland mass produced beer.

M - Light body and over carbonated.

D - Bad

i reckon i could sue tooheys for false advertising here. if theres saaz hops in this beer ill go he. maybe they put one cone of it in the vat. no way known this is a pilsener. surprisingly tho, for all that it didnt taste as shitty as it could have. looked pretty good too.

i cranked out my pilsner urquell glass for this one. no doubt i was getting a bit over excited about the prospects, still when i poured it it looked promising. color was excellent, darker golden hues than most pilseners. that always promises a strong malt backbone. it had a fairly good build up of head as well. it was like a politician tho, didnt deliver on that promise. i was pumped, but that was till i realized i couldnt smell anything worthwhile. nothing there except the smell of adjuncts. certainly no saaz jumping out. it didnt taste too great, some malts, lemon as always with a macro lager. even tho there was no saaz as advertised, there wasnt that cruddy back bitterness common to australian mass produced lagers. wasnt full bodied, but wasnt piss weak, and did have a slight amount of zing from the carbonation. if it was the last beer on earth i wouldnt knock it back like i would many others.

ive drank alot worse from oz breweies than this, tho thats not saying much. its still pretty lacklustre.its possible to do better than this for sure, even among aussie lagers. still, as officer barbrady once said 'move along poeple, nothing to see here'

I would have given it a higher rating. Except his beer promotes itself as a Pilsener. It sure fooled me. Tastes like everything else Tooheys put out, only slightly better.
Don't bother trying it.

Pours a deep amber hue, highly carbonated with a good thick head which surprisingly stays compact and together for a long period, leaving some good lace.

Hmm. Traces of malt, banana cake, some yeast on the nose. On the label it promises Saaz hops, but there is no trace of those here. Phantom hops in the Tooheys.

Now for the taste...

Oh, it's repugnant. That awful off yeast flavour, with sour bread dough and that sticky rotten flavour at the back of your mouth that I always associate with Carlton. Tooheys, you have shown me a new low today.

It's like an assassin, this beer. It seduces you in with it promising looks, frothy head and unassuming aroma then stabs you with the taste from Hell. It's all the worse for it.

I couldn't finish this one. Very disappointing.
