Not a bad wheat beer. Unfiltered, cloudy color; the high head reduced to a consistent skim of foam. Taste was richer and less sharp than most wheat beers- definitely appreciate that the sharp citrus overkill was avoided in this one; much smoother and pleasant than I expected. Sweet after-taste (vaguely fruity, perhaps banana or something). Hints of spice- I mainly got nutmeg, although I think some clove scent may have come through as well.

Overall, not a bad beer for the genre, and definitely a good Weizenbier choice for the non-wheat-beer-drinkers.

Bottle at Pannenkoekenrestaurant Oude Mueller, Utrecht, Netherlands

A: The beer is rather hazy yellow in color and has a high amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high white head that died down but consistently left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of wheat and bananas are present in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste has flavors of wheat along with notes of bananas from the yeast.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very easy to drink and as some refreshing properties. It is not a bad choice to enjoy sitting next to a canal on a warm day.

A - Hazy gold/banana yellow. Decent but unremarkable head.
S - Banana bread, singed sugar & caramel, clove. Buttery. Fairly aromatic and pleasing, comforting even. Very interesting!
T - Definite clove, yeast. An odd off-tasting, burnt sugaryness. Tart, sour, lime-candy taste seems out of balance as it dominates the palate.
M - Somewhat puckering from its not-quite-citrusy sourness, a bit unpleasant. Bitter. Finishes fairly clean and very dry, but sourness lingers.
O - Disappointing. While there's no doubt my palate isn't the most refined, I don't see the appeal of this one and would be reluctant to try it again. Forgive me, my Austrian brothers.

Pours cloudy yellow with a full white head, some lace.

Nutty yeast and sweet wheat in the nose. Some banana and tropical fruit.

Malt is nice, with yeast and sweet wheat coming forward. Some tropical fruit and raw grain. But this fades to a odd soapy note, with no bitterness and a very weak finish.

Lighter bodied, good carbonation.

Unbalanced, which is a shame. Good start, fades in the finish.

05 2013 printed on the label.

Pours a cloudy golden color with a monstrous head that did not want to settle and just hung at three fingers.

Wonderful aromatic weiss beer. All the usual hefeweizen aromas are present such as banana, bubblegum, cloves, and wheat all blended together perfectly.

The flavor is not as impressive but still a good tasting hefe. The yeast did not totally take over as the wheat malt plays the biggest part. Notes of banana and cloves.

Feels a little thin and watery. For all the action during the pour, the carbonation is quite low. Overall the texture was a disappointment.

A good old world hefe. Too bad the greatness did not go beyond the aroma into the flavor and other areas.

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a weissbier glass.

Wow. That's really the only word for it. Pours a wonderfully hazy gold color. Large long lasting and very creamy white head. The smell is incredible, lots of banana and clove aroma along with yeast. The taste is also wonderful, fruity and yeasty with a nice character that screams hefeweizen. One of my all time favorite beers, wish I could find it in the states.

Edit: If anyone does know where I can find this in the US, please tell me.

A - Cloudy, golden wheat colour with a nice amber hue. Good 1-2 fingers of head which subsides gradually.

S - Strong sensation of sweet vanilla, banana and sugary candy-malt. Touch of dry wheat in the background works to balance the aromas.

T - Not as sweet as expected initially. Quite crisp on the palate with a somewhat bitter presence. The aftertaste offers much more of the flavours suggested by the aroma. Sweet on the lips but still bitter and with a hint of spice.

M - There's a malt layer here which is almost hidden but does slowly coat the mouth as it's consumed. Accordingly the drink softens on the palate after the first few initial mouthfuls. Not as smooth or sweet though as you might expect. Plenty of bitterness verging on sourness at times.

O - I believe this is the first Austrian wheat beer I've ever sampled. Compelling aromas up front but lacking in the smooth sophistication you'd expect from this style/part of the world. Reminiscent of the Weihenstephan Kristall but not quite as good.

A: Pours a hazy gold with an enormous white head that quickly receded to a creamy mousse.

S: Aromas of banana, clove, vanilla, heavy cream, and buttered wheat toast are present on the nose. I was hoping that the aroma of this beer would be stronger and more assertive, but it smells nice enough.

T: Opens sweet and creamy with notes of vanilla, heavy cream, buttered wheat toast, almonds, banana, and clove. I don't really detect the bubblegum flavor so typical of many weizens. The finish is smooth and relatively short with notes of cream, vanilla, banana, and wheat toast nicely integrated.

M: Light-bodied, dry, and firm. Very easy to drink.

O: I enjoy this hefeweizen, but in the end, it is not one of my favorites. There are just so many good weissbiers out there, and while solidly crafted, nothing about this one really stands out from the crowd. I'd have it again though.

Pours a very pale, but hazy yellow colour - a look I'm starting to associate with an "Austrian Hefeweizen". Head is filmy but consistent, and made up of very fine bubbles. Cloudiness is nice. Overall, it's a decent looking brew, very light for a hefe though.

Nose is lightly spicy with a slight wheat acidity, but it's very light and mild all up. Slight coppery twang, and a hint of crushed leaves, but minimal else. Can't say I'm a huge fan, even though the slight characters it does have are pleasant enough.

Taste is a little better, with the hallmarks of a good weizen - slight acidity through the front, a touch of spice and a little sweetness. On the back, however, there's a slightly bitter metallic, phenolic character that skews it from the classic profile. It's a little bit of a downer to an otherwise decent beer. Feel is smooth enough, and quite light, which suits it well enough.

Eh, it's not a great beer, but it's not that bad either. There are much better hefeweizens out there - this one is just a little bit too bland.

Pours cloudy straw/pale amber with a huge white head.
Nose shows doughy wheat, spicy phenols and some vegetal characters.
Flavours are similar with weak doughy wheat, steamed vegetables and practically no bitterness.
Body seems watery.
A bit tame in the way of flavours/aromas, but very welcome on a hot day.

500ml bottle, imported by Stawski.

Nice cloudy Hefe, the head is thick, white and foamy.

The nose is clovey with a subtle hint of wheat.

The flavor is a mixture of cloves, lemon, and banana.

I reviewed this one quick, but that is because I was camping with it, it is an easy drinking, very good Hefe.

Great summertime when there are plenty of hefeweiss beers to try.

Colour rather pale yellow, lemon colour, slightly hazy, big soapy head, ok carbonation.
Smell is good, of wheat and yeast, banana citrus and clove. Nice.
Taste is faint, mellow. It holds some malts and citrus and banana, good ones, but not overwhelming.
Smooth mouthfeel, yet refreshing carbonation.
It's easy drinkable.

Not a bad brew, but I'd like it to have more flavour.

Had this twice on my trip to Budapest and Vienna, and reviewing from some notes. Poured from the 500mL bottle into a branded weizen glass. Bright and cloudy. Fresh. Citrus and a hint of pineapple. Green apple. Big wheat taste. Clove. Yeast. Light floral and coriander. Light bread/biscuit. This is a nice solid beer.

Coming in a 500ml slim brown bottle, this beer is named "Edelweiss Weissbier" on the front label and "Hefetrüb" on the cap, so I guess the two separate entries on this site should be one and the same(?); BB 12/2009, served chilled in Edelweiss' own branded 500ml weizen glass.

A: pours a pale yellow-ish straw hue, decently cloudy, coming with a thin but well-lasting white puffy head and semi-lively carbonation - just about right.
S: lightly sweet lemony on the fruit side, and even lighter on the maltiness which shows a good input of grainy malts, sponge cake, and toffee; a swirl serves to wake up the underlying hints of sweet bananas and dried mangoes (and also as the beer warms). But overall the aroma is less complex than many of its counterparts and certainly not as impressive as the draught version tasted 3.5 years ago.
T: thin-bodied citric+mango fruits precedes a slightly thin wheat-ish taste, while a decent edge of acidity (as of a lactose drink) follows closely; on top of moderate fruit esters, the aftertaste shows almost corn-ish grainy malts and a touch of savoury-spices like cloves with a pinch of sea salt, before all quietly settles to a slightly dry finishing palate. Not complex, but approachable still.
M&D: the carbonation comes lightly fizzy and not very intrusive, rendering a quite refreshing and approachable palate, matching the medium body and the light flavour profile just alright. Overall, there's no single flavour element dominating the palate, although fruity esters appear slightly more pronounced than the rest; however, it is the subdued yet lingering aroma of malts that eventually manages to resonate from the back of the palate; hence a higher-than-average drinkability as well. Not as flavoursome as the draught version, though.

Had this beer in my local pub on tap, served in the official Edelweiss Weizen Glass.
A: Honey colored brew with a white head.
S: The smell is great, a little lemon zest mixed with honey and wheat, fruity aroma.
T: The taste mirrors the smell, you can taste the wheat. the zest and honey, a good taste that lasts.
M: the mouthfeel is very rich, it's very thick and filling.
D: The beer is quite drinkable, yet I believe it's more of a session beer and I'd rather have a pint or 2, but no more.
Overall this is a great wheat beer with a mesmerizing aroma and a good taste.

500ml bottle bought from Sainsburys...

Poured a cloudy pale golden straw colour. White head poured big thick and foamy and faded slowly to thick frothy layer.. lots of sticky lacing... carbonation bubbles rush to the surface...

Aroma - Spicy and citrusy, light biscuity malts, some sweet gainy notes, apple and light banana, salty hints, grassy, some very light honey sweetness, some clove, perfumey...

Taste - Nice spiciness (cloves, coriander), grassy, floral, good lemon fruitiness, light banana, herbal, some vanilla creaminess, lots of wheatiness, some yeastiness...

M&D - Sharp and dry. Light body... refreshing and drinkable - would be nice on a hot summers day...

Overall - A decent enough wheat beer... worth a try..

I tasted this 330ml bottle on 18.01.09 (best by 06 2009). ABV listed as 5%. This is a new "presentation"; a new bottle with mountain peaks raised on the brown glass, and a silver and blue label. It had a twist-off cap.

I poured it into a Hoegaarden glass, and it looked well; I added the sediment and it had a touch of orange colour to the yellow hazy body, with a foaming off-white head. Decent lacing remained on the glass.

The smell was nice mild banana and citrus.
There was plenty of flavour to this brew; banana, spices, and citrus - quite lemony.
Mouthfeel was quite fizzy.

Overall, a decent hefeweizen. I would prefer it in a traditional 500 ml bottle.

Got this at Bert's Bier Huis in Utrecht

Into my Weizen glass.

APPEARANCE: Yellow gold in colour and opaque. A slightly lighter colour than average. Medium sized white fluffy head. Not much carbonation but a few smaller bubbles are evident. A think film remains leaving some lacing down the sides. Pretty decent.

SMELL: A medium strength nose of wheat malt. Some lemon hop and clove there with a bit of banana in the background. Nice and crisp, but not quite strong enough.

TASTE: Taste is lacking. Slight bit of wheat malt and a bread tinge, but more strength would be nice. A wheat aftertaste shows up eventually, but is underwhelming. Certainly not off-putting, but there isn't much there really. A little bland. Below average for the style.

PALATE: Feels like it should. Carbonation is lower and balanced well. Goes down smooth without any bite. Finishes comparatively dry as well. Nice.

OVERALL: Decent brew, but missing something in the taste. It's not a bad taste, it just isn't powerful enough to make a statement. Not bad, but there are better ones worth seeking out.

Pours hazy yellow, thin, but sticky head, quite good lacing.

Aroma feels fresh, a bit spice (clove mostly) and some banana. Flavour is very little malt, again some banana and clove. There was also presence of lemon felt, especially towards the end of the glass. It is quite low on hops.

The beer is moderately carbonated and feels refreshing. Overall, it is quite good made and very drinkable.

upd. 2 months later - the second beer I drank had much better apperance, the rest was almost the same

I had a couple of these last night in Vienna. I thought it was lovely... a really tasty and refreshing hefe. It made a brilliant partner with the goulash I was eating. The head was thick, and lasted right doen to the end of the glass. I've not got a lot more to say really, except that I would have had a couple more had I not had a long walk back to my hotel.

Austria's most popular WeiBbier hands down.

Appearance is what one would expect of a Hefeweizen...cloudy, though a bit paler than other Hefe offerings Ive had with a massive pungent head. Aromas of clove and bubble gum overwhelm the nose. Unfortunately, flavor amongst those scents is not as well balanced as one would like. A bubble gum flavor dominates all other tastes. Generally, I'm not one to put a lemon in my Hefes, but one here is called for as it adds something to balance the bubble gum. Drinkability is lessened by a flavor that tends to get a bit annoying half way through the second pint.

Poured a somewhat translucent pale gold (slightly orange) with a 1 cm white head of very tiny bubbles. This dissipated fairly quickly, but left a nice lacing. It was strange that this hefe was not as hazy as I'm used to them being.

The aroma is heavily of bread, some banana, and some vanilla extract. No cloves detected.

The mouthfeel is slick and has medium carbonation. Nice.

The taste is overwhelmingly honeyed, with some cloves, and a touch of bitter hops. It has a tang, but not very citrus, as with most hefes. A little bit watery.

All in all, a completely unremarkable hefeweizen. Not quite up to par or quite to style, as far as I'm concerned. I won't be making any repeat purchases of it, but I wouldn't turn it down if offered.

Solid hefeweizen, purchased at the LCBO. Really nice to see this here -- it's not the greatest example of the style I've ever had, but it certainly is nice to have it easily available during the summer.

Not a lot to say about this, other than it's a fairly standard, well-executed beer that's been brewed to style. Perhaps a little bit lighter or clearer than a typical hefe. Carbonation is a little on the high side, and clove flavours are very restrained. However, all of these elements are quite subtle, and the overall effect is just a solid, refreshing wheat beer.

Don't mind this hefe at all. Although it is a bit filing. Very nice thick white and long lasting head. Some nice lacing. Smells like a hefe to me, a little spice here and there. Smooth and refreshing. Nice to have 1 or 2 on a hot day at camp or while cooking on the q.
