On cask at Volo. Served in a pint glass.

Poured pitch black, cask-type head: fluffy and soapy. No lacing really, but some moderate retention. Nose of dark chocolate and cocoa and some roasted coffee beans, less prominent however. Taste has alot of coffee along with some milky notes. Light lactic sourness to it, with some milk chocolate. Silky and smooth cask mouthfeel, and the 'sourness' although not dominating, adds an interesting touch to this. Low carbonation and solid drinkability; a 'sessionable' stout in many ways. Quite nice.

Black, some head. Cask at Volo. Hops in secondary, chocolate in aroma, coffee in taste. Some cocoa. OK cask but much better Foreign Export Stouts are about. Came out as a sweetish dry stout. A pint is too much. A bit astringent, though malt over time makes it appear more sweet.

Beer is black with a thin tan head. Not a great surprise!

Smell is rather faint. Roasted malt and some cocoa. I often find cask beers are less pungent, and this is no exception.

The beer itself is creamy, and slightly bitter at the end. Chocolate/cocoa is prominently featured, as well as some coffee: a mocha flavour overall. I found the beer took on a somewhat boozy flavour as it went on, which is odd considering that it is not a strong beer.

The body is quite light for a stout, but fine. Minimal carbonation.

Overall, enjoyable but thin. I was initially not very impressed, but I did find the taste improved as I went on. I liked it, but not fantastic.
