So my review is going to probably be way higher than everyone else...I don't see how you can knock the color or
Clarity with a 2 or below; it looks like a light lager should. Taste, smell, and feel are all what you would expect from a light lager. The only thing I would knock is very little head retention. This is a crushable easy drinking light lager that is cheap and available everywhere in Puerto Rico

10oz can consumed at the pool bar at the Caribe Hilton

Pours a pale yellow color with a fizzy white head. Smells of cereal grains and not much else, luckily no metallic aroma as with most of this style. Taste is cereal grains, corn & wet cardboard. Mouthfeel is light and fizzy with high drinkability. Overall, this one is tolerable, but one can was enough for me. It doesn't have that metallic flavor that you typically expect from this style, but everything else is your typical adjunct light lager.

If you drink beer in Puerto Rico, you will almost certainly end up drinking this one at some point. This one is everywhere, and we'll certainly not the only beer made here, it's hands down the most popular. Not much different from other large scale light lagers of the world, but it does have a few nice features that out it a little higher up the hierarchy for me. For one, it has no chemical or metallic flavors at all, it appears to actually be brewed, and its freshness and cleanness here are nice. It also has just the faintest citrus flavor in it, doubtful from hops, but it breaks up the monotony of the watery cereal malts just enough to keep it interesting, like a pinch of lime in other island brews. Carbonation is on point with this one, and with the low abv, it's easy to crush them down in the hot sun and intense humidity of Puerto Rico. It needs to be ice cold to even be worth having, but after a few days of being here, I have sort of grown used to this, and even find myself frothing for it at times...

A perfectly ok lager, at least avaerage by the standards of most island lagers you find in this part of the world. Crisp, clean, drinkable, if a little dull. I was happy to drink a couple by the pool.

Medalla Light
10 oz. can
15 July 15 Jet Ink label on the bottom of the can
Served hotel room style in a baby glass and mainly out of the can

Prior to my visit to Puerto Rico, I had never tasted or heard of Medalla, but that has since changed. This baby 10 oz. can with it's ubiquitous gold exterior has become a mainstay of my past few days.

Pours a light yellow with an abundance of small carbonation bubbles that race to the top of the glass. If you're lucky, you will get a fluffy white head on top.

This beer screams corn and grains with each sip. It's a pedestrian beer by all accounts that is very quaffable. One could easily finish this beer off with three big swigs. I wish I had a penny for every time I slammed one of these on the beach.

Is this a good quality beer? No, but it does quench your thirst in the hot 90 degree sun.

12 oz bottle. Pours pale straw with white head and soda like carbonation. Aroma is of lemonade. Body is light and smooth. Taste is like slightly fermented water. Awful.

This is the first time I had this beer since my trip to Puerto Rico about a decade ago. I remember drinking little 10 oz. cans on the beach. Anyway, poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a pale yellow color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, some hints of grains. Taste is light and really bland. Some corn, not much else. Feels light in the mouth and overall, nothing offensive, and fine on a hot day, but greatly lacking in flavor.

I am fairly certain I could make this beer. All I need is water and some light syrup. There really is nothing there. But.....I love it. I am usually sitting on a beach in Puerto Rico or being dragged into the ocean to die by the undertow when I am drinking it (the ocean water is a little higher quality than the beer).....but it is perfect. This beer should never be exported from the island. Craving my next Medalla

It's water with corn and a touch of alcohol. Nothing to it. One can easily tear through 18 of these and binge on delicious fried foods next to the beach..not saying I did...but one could...

From a small bottle, pours crystal clear, very bright. It reminds of semi-hydrated urine.

The flavor is all canned corn. Lots of grains, but musty like a basement. The flavor isn't much better, thin, watery. Besides the corn, there isn't really much going on.

Always fun to try lagers from around the world...

Puerto Rico, huh? Thanks for the sample, Kevin.

Exceptionally bright and clear as well as being exceptionally pale, the white head struggles to hold up and manages not much but some as it extends its greatest effort. What head there is ends up capable of some spotting, too.
Malts are mostly grainy, little substance but some husky must, though it's fairly clean. It's very light, in the end, though the faintest hint of grass comes out. That a note of wet cardboard is restrained is saying something when even a little could completely dominate; with any more character, it would likely be completely unnoticeable.
This is a fairly standard light lager, no adjuncts to speak of but lacking much of anything. There's a little leaf to it, and a slightly astringent, almost medicinal quality builds on the tongue with time. Pale malts do contribute, but little.
Light? Absolutely. It shouldn't, however, feel like soda with nothing to the body whatsoever.

Bight straw colored with lots of carbonation bubbles inside. The white head quickly dissipates almost entirely and only covers about half of the top of the beer. Aroma is of corn and sweaty gym socks. The flavor is primarily corn with a hint of Saaz bittering hops with a somewhat salty aftertaste. Mouth is thin and quaffable. A hot weather beverage.

What can I say that hasn't been said or wasn't expected?
Its Puerto Ricos answer to Watery American brews like Bud Light and Miller Lite which from my experience has no presence in PR. It seems like competition for Coors Light which has a strong presence on the Island. Its watery, doesn't taste like much, and much be consumed ice cold or that nasty stale flavor shines.
It was a bit cheaper than Coors Light at local spots, so you can save a $1 here and there.
Generally around $1/can at liquor stores and $2.50 at bars. If you're curious about local brews, give Magna a try for some more flavor.
The kicker was seeing it priced at $5/pint at the PR Airport. A deal when Imports were in the $7-9 range.
It is what it is...Cheap and drinkable. Much like a Corona in Mexico.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker pint.

Appearance
Pale straw colored with a short white head that dissipates quickly. Crystal clear with low carbonation.

Nose
Lightly bready and caramelly with touches of apple cider.

Taste
Lightly bready sweet malts with dollops of caramel and a handful of raw grains. Hints of corny adjuncts and just a nip of some nondescript hop notes.

Mouthfeel
Light bodied, crisp and clean.

Overall
This Light Lager is A-Okay! This is much better than it's American counterparts.

10 oz can, the standard size in PR.

Pours light clear straw gold, soda pop white head.

Smells of corn and light sweet barley malt.

Tastes exactly the same but with the slightest hop bite.

Light watery body with poppy carbonation.

Actually not terrible, better than bud or coors lite by miles. If ice cold, pairs great with local cuisine like mofongo.

Had a can from Puerto Rico, thanks Josh. Light pale adjunct lager. Drinkable, but also very comparable to seltzer in taste. Pretty bland and also not as bad as I thought. I could drink this in 100 degree heat if I did not have filtered and bottled water.

(Served in an American pint glass)

A- This beer pours a straw yellow body with a loose meringue of snow white head that boils away before the first sip leaving only a thin ring of big bubbles. There is a strong carbonation of big bubbles popping of the base of the glass.

S- The aroma is very clean with only a hint of mineral water really noticed.

T- The soft dry corn note leads to a carbonic acid note in the finish. There is a slight chalk note that comes through when the beer opens and a hint of tartness in the finish aswell.

M- The light mouthfeel has a scrubbing fizz and no alcohol heat.

O- This beer is light with almost no flavor. No hops or malt at all but it is also perfectly clean. No sulfur or off-flavors. Just fizzy water.

275 ml. golden can poured into a glass, showing a light straw with a bit of a haze. Thin cap doesn't linger.

Aroma is thin as per the style. Notable corn and cereal grains going on. Quite minimal.

Flavor is quite dry with a short almost cottony finish. Offers a hint of grain on the feel but is otherwise a bit astringent. Overall the 'dry' nature of this beer was a bit of a surprise, tasting a bit like a light version of an ice beer. But alas, the Cruise Ship awaits..

This is the signature puertorican beer. It is made in Mayaguez, and most of the Medalla fans are obviously in that area. College students love it because it is cheap. The color is golden yellow, almost no head when poured into a glass. It smells of grains, pretty unappealing if you ask me. The taste is too carbonated and leaves the hard palate with a dry/uncomfortable feeling. Overall it is a good beer if you like light beers, don't hesitate to give it a try.

Medalla Light has a thin, white head and a clear, fairly bubbly, straw appearance. The aroma is of sweet, bready barley malt and a shadow of a hop sting. Taste is of sweet bread, lemon, paper, a touch of syrup, and a kiss of hops. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Medalla Light finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, mostly dry, extremely drinkable, and delicious. What a wonderful surprise! This might be the best mass-produced light beer on the market. I rate this one excellent.

I’m sure this beer is traditionally drunk from the can. I classed it up a bit and poured it into a clear plastic cup so I could see what I was drinking. It’s a cloudy, but clear golden color with only a thinnest layer of head.
It smells like nothing, save a faint grain smell.
It also tastes like nothing. There’s a slight bitter (the slightest) at the finish. Prior to that it tastes like carbonated water.
Light bodied, crisp and moderate carbonation. A refreshing feeling.
To be fair the can does state “sabor con menos calarias y carbohidratos.” So if there’s no calories or carbs, what’s left? Drink one and find out.

A: half finger head on a Straw yellow clear body.

S: light pale malts which is stronger than expected considering the lightness of this beers flavor and mouthfeel.

T: may be the lightest beer ever. Water up front and some pale malt as light hops in the finish.

M: very light body, high carbonation and very refreshing.

Overall: this beer is very refreshing probably because it tastes like water. No real flavor but nothing bad tasting either

Can poured into a tulip

A: Pours a straw, transparent yellow with very large bubbles and an interim fizzy head.

S: Smell is just a touch bitter, a little metallic, maybe even sweet like honey, but it’s short lived. A little skunky.

T/M: A little more honey sweetness is mixed in with some fizzy carbonation up front and it’s pretty watery afterwards, like seltzer or tonic water.

Similar to most other American light lagers, except in Puerto Rican form.

A- very fizzy pale yellow piss.

S- Corn and malty water, and nothing else at all.

T- a sweet corn and light sweet malt and then just a flavorless finish with no bite. It drinks very smooth so honestly it's pretty quenching.

O- it's almost water, so on this humid day in puerto Rico, I'll take it.

Shared a can over dinner in Luquillo. Pours golden yellow, no head, really fizzy. Smell is full of skunky hops with a hint of sweet malt like most bad adjunct lagers. Taste is no better: skunky hops and other bitingly bad flavors. Mildly bitter and unpleasant like regular Bud or MGD.

If I want a light adjunct lager, I'm ordering Coors Light because it tastes the most like water. And honestly I'd much rather have water than any of the above.
