Opaque black with a little bit of tan head. Chocolate and nutty aroma with a light fruitiness. Rich dark chocolate taste with a light bitterness. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. This is a nice winter beer. Nothing overly special, but a solid offering.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a frothy tan head that mostly diminishes and leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet lactic chocolate, some coffee and some charcoal and vegetal notes.

The flavor is sweet chocolate, coffee, and some anise with a burnt bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full with low carbonation.

Overall a very nice winter stout. The burnt bitterness balances out the sweet notes nicely.

Pours black with a quarter inch tan head that remains as sticky lacing throughout the drink.
Aroma is mildly cola and burnt malts...with a dusty sawdust smell.
Flavors of cream and burnt malt with the same slightly cola taste on the end.
Mouthfeel starts creamy but then gets a little watery.
Seems more like a milk stout than an oatmeal stout, but still an enjoyable drink.

Black with purple highlights. Head is absent, only a small, semi-tan edging exists.
Bizzare nose of plums, cola sweetness and liquorice.
Enters the mouth with a charred cola-syrup sweetness that is obnoxious almost instantly. Dark fruits parade next. In any other stout, they might be attractive, but here they only add to the mess. Plums and raisins jut out like sore thumbs, lacking any sort of intergration and ride painfully through the finish. Roasted hues are pushed back, and only make a cameo. Oats are not noticed, or at least relocated to the border of perception. Cascade hop finish is forced and unpleasant.
Very thin to boot. The only heft to be found is in its stickiness.
Similar to cascade-hopped prune juice.
With some (major) tweaking and bolstering, this could make a passable Imperial, though it is very needy on the roasted malt end and hop load.
Its cloyingly sweetness and gooey plum hues discredit it as an "oatmeal" stout.
Smooth it is not.
Avoid this wreck.

12oz single, brennan's-university, bottled in the first week of october

appearance: dark mahongany/almost black, creamy tan head, creamy lacing...pretty nice looking

smell: sweet dark chocolate, cream, roasted coffee, sweet malt backbone, a light touch of fresh hops

taste: better than the aromas...sweet and milky dark chocolate, nice and creamy, roasted barley malt, light oatmeal, some nice fresh citrus hops in the background...pretty nice, nothing spectacular but a good oatmeal stout

mouthfeel: a little thin, pretty silky smooth

drinkability: good session stout

Bottled 2nd week of January

Pours an effervescent brown tinged ebony with 1 finger of mocha colored head. Great lacing 7 below average head retention

S: Roasty malts & coffee grinds

T: Roasty malts & cocoa, plus touch of vanilla up front. Mocha & more roasty malt & chocolate as the is warms. Finishes dry with great chocolate & coffee notes

MF: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation & a bit of smoothness

Drinks pretty easy, but about 3-4 would satisfy this craving. Much better on tap & even better on nitro

Big thanks goes out to jmkratt for this one as an extra in a past trade! Bottled on the first week of November. Served from bottle into a Warsteiner mug Poured as dark as brown can be without being black with a half finger khaki head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. There was no lacing evident throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, and dark chocolate. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, oatmeal, and dark fruit. It had a medium feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this wasn't a bad brew at all, but not really that great either. The flavor seemed a little watered down to me if I'm honest. The flavor wasn't really bad, just not robust as I would like. Worth trying though.

Appearance - Black as night, no bubbles, can't see through it. The head is not one that hangs around but it does lace the glass... I'm hoping for substance in the smell and taste categories.
...
Smell - Malts: king of a smoky and toasty smell... its a stout... Who burned the HOPS? Oh yeah... they are roasted... haha... Yeast? is it even there?

Taste - Tastes like a stout. Heavy in the malt and hops department with a coffee like roasted quality added. Not the heftiest stout in the world, but a decent one.

Mouthfeel - Almost heavy bodied... I wish it was heavy bodied.

Overall - It's good, but I wish it was heavier and bit more true to the stout style... Still good though. :-D

Very dark ruby, almost opaque black color. Head started out big but fell down: thin and tan with mediocre lacing. Aroma is quite nice: mocha, roasted barley and sweet pale malt with a hint of hops. Flavor is a mild blend of roast bitterness and sweet malt with an alpha acid finish. Feels good in the mouth- not too thick ot thin. It is "drinkable" but not a quaffing session brew. Overall a solid citizen from a very good brewery.

Poured into a pint glass this black beer tainted with red produced a good amount of a brown head that retained very well. When it did finally reduce it went to a thin lacing that keeps a clean rimmed glass. The aroma of this beer is cooking chocolate malts of hints of alcohol and dairy products. The thick fluidity of the beer gave hints of molasses and brown sugar with the cooking chocolate taste. Giving an all around great taste to finish the drink off with.

Aroma: Roasted malts and dried Fruits

Appearance: It ours black with a tan head,

Flavor: Roasted grains, bitter bite,

Mouth feel: It has a full body.

Overall Impression: I purchased this beer based on the recommendation of customer at the liquor store. I was looking for beers from breweries I had not had before. This beer fit the bill plus had a glowing recommendation. When all is said and done, it a good stout, but I don't see my self purchasing it again. There is nothing wrong with the beer; there just is anything memorable about it.

single, Wilbur's, Fort Collins

a: poured into a small chalice, the beer is a deep, dark brown in color, an initially thick mocha head receding to a decent layer

s: opens with chocolate and clean coffee - very nice roast elements, pleasant sweetness, toasted brown sugar, graham cracker, oats, a touch of dark fruit, and mild hops, solid aroma

m: carbonation light-moderate, body around of just under

t: earthy roasts upfront hint at coffee and chocolate, but better represent the woody/smoky/nuttiness that is roasted barley, a touch of burnt sugar at the front moves out quickly, just a slight amount of char and some grassy hop bitterness work into the finish

o: a solid oatmeal stout all around, good roast presence, balanced, drinks well, more complex maltsugars are found on the nose, while the palate holds more deep roasted character

Dark nearly black in color, with a thin brown head. Smells of roasted malt and oats. Bold flavor of a european stout with chocolate undertones. Smooth feel in the mouth and excellent drinkability, especially while enjoying a cold snowing day. I wish I could buy it outside of CO.
