The first beer I had at Moon River over the weekend, poured a deep dark brown with a small off white head, aromas of bitter chocolate and roasted nuts.A very smooth well rounded porter bursting with chocolate and heavily roasted malt flavors full nice mouthfeel lends to its drinkability as well.A damn fine porter it was a nice way to start off my Savannah trip.

Deep reddish brown colour with a half decent head that sticks a bit. Faint charcoal and toasted malt in the aroma. Smooth and crisp with a moderate body. Biting bitterness from the roasted malt is not astringent and rests at a perfect level. Touch of hops, both bitterness and flavour jumps in a bit but the malt stays on top with some sweet dextrin and roasted malt flavours. A real easy drinking porter, could be considered an ideal session beer also.

On-tap at Hotoberfest - sampled multiple times.

Pours one shade from black with a half-finger tan head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of robust roasted malts with hints of semi-sweet chocolate. Also present are faint amounts of char.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Moderately dry roasted malt flavors kick things off and are soon dried out even further with hints of char. Midway through the sip the flavor profile sweetens a bit with the addition of semi-sweet chocolate which carries through to a moderately bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with smooth carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I finished my glass quickly and could have another with no problems.

Overall there weren't a lot of bells or whistles on this beer but it was solid and clean. Worth a shot.

Appearance: A nice dark brown, nearly opaque, with hints of amber, of course, running through at different times. The mocha-colored head stays for the long haul, though not more than half an inch, and leaves some spotty lacing.

Smell: A nice meld of bitter coffee, chocolate, charcoal, brown sugar, roasted malt, and molasses. A slight bit of citrus comes through also.

Taste: The aroma transfers nicely, as the charcoal and roasted malt flavors balances well with the brown sugar and sweeter flavors along with the mocha and coffee. Finishes semi-dry, with much of the darker flavors lingering.

Mouthfeel: Thankfully this one isn't too cloying, and the body, more medium than thin, lends itself to having more than one without being too much.

Drinkability: I usually wouldn't session porters, though if I had to this would be an example of one. Balanced and flavorful and a brew I'll try again when I'm in Savannah.

Solid porter, with coffee grinds in the offing and chocolate malt. Dark with mocha head and good lacing. Some licorice and even possibly borrowing some orange and corriander from the other beers. Decent bitterness. Good thing I had this before the dixie sugar Belgian, and so could taste it. Medium plus mouthfeel.

This beer was served in a standard pint glass and was a dark brownish red with a moderate tan head with clingy lace. The smell was of roasted malt. The taste was roasty toasty malt with a slight caramel sweetness and mild earthy hoppiness. The beer had a pleasant moderate rounded mouthfeel. This was a very pleasant porter with flavors that aren't too overwhelming. Very drinkable!

At Moon River. Nearly black pour, basicly no head, just a few white bubbles.

Aroma, toasted malt, caramel and some chocolates. Not a real strong nose.

Taste, more than the aroma. Still just a fair amount of roast but a little acrid. Slight sour note that I didn't care for. Some more chocolate and peat then coffee in the finish.

To the light side of mid, a tad thin really. Carbonation was fine despite what the appearance showed. Easy enough to drink.

Maybe this was an old barrel, didn't see what others did with this one. All in all very average, which is just fine, someone has to be.

Aroma is faintly roasty with lots of molasses and hints of brown sugar. Brown with reddish tints and a decent, but fading mocha head. More of the molasses and brown sugar...more slight roastiness. Gets a touch cloying witht he brown sugar notes, but finished dry and approachable.

On-tap at the brewery on 2/22/11. Poured into a Pint Glass.

A - Dark black with a creamy, khaki-colored head. Nice retention, leaves some sticky lacing.
S - Dark roasted malt, coffee, cocoa powder, and toasted nuts. Very nice, yet typical, Porter aromas.
T - Nice, roasty flavors of dark malt, coffee, and chocolate, with a slightly smoky quality. Excellent Porter.
M - Creamy with a medium-full body and moderate carbonation.
D - Very drinkable, and somewhat sessionable at around 6% ABV.

I stopped into Moon River with a friend that lives in Beaufort, SC to grab a couple of beers. This beer was black in color and very still in the glass. No real head to speak of. The nose is dominated by the malt. The attack and flavor are very smooth. The mouthfeel is smooth as well. The flavor has hints of cocoa, but is pretty clean at the start and finish. I really enjoyed this beer the most of those that I tried. I wish we would have gotten something to eat so I could hang out more as the place looks pretty decent.

Had on tap at the brewpub, nice place, just sayin

Came to me almost black, its a really dark amber, little head, foam is a beige color, good lacing.

Very chocolatey in the nose, little bits of coffee and other roasted bitterness.

Taste is a little thin for my liking, chocolatey with a little bit of roasted bitterness and a metallic tinge on the finish.

Light in body, a little thin as I said earlier, super smooth though.

Overall, I really like this brew, would get it again, hopefully I'll be back in savannah soon

The appearance was what you expect from a porter, black but not opaque with a smaller, short-live head. The thing that really makes this stand out is the aroma. It's smells like a bouquet of flowers. The flavor features some light roastiness and some dry chocolate. Not a flavor bomb, but an interesting porter nonetheless.

My, my, my...to my palate, this is the best porter I've ever had. Understand, I'm talking about MY palate...if you like really sweet porters and lots of coffee flavor, this is not your porter. But it has huge chocolate notes, with just enough sweetness. Very, very nice.

Poured on tap into a tall BMB mug.

A - Very dark. Black, really. THICK, brown foam, a good two fingers, and left lots of lacing. Really a beautiful beer.

S - It had nice chocolate malt, and some roasted malts, with an underlying dark grain. Hint of the hops, but understated, as I would expect from a porter. This is really an unforgettable aroma.

T - Wow, wow, wow. This tastes so darned good. I am not a bit fan of sweet porters, but this really is something special. Tons of dark chocolate, strong grain bed, roasted malt, and caramel and molasses, balanced with solid hops bitterness that compliments the chocolate perfectly. Not at all cloying. This is a porter that I could have more than once in the same night.

M - Medium to full body, with light carbonation, just enough to give a little tickle on the tongue. Very smooth.

D - This is about as good as a porter gets, in my opinion. Something I can drink and feel very satisfied after one, yet if I have time, I can drink a second without any problem. I think it would pair beautifully with beef, but it went really well with the grilled chicken, swiss and bacon sandwich I had with it. Truly and outstanding brew.

Appearance: deep dark brown in color with a nice 2" light tan colored head that lasts quite a while. Nice lacing paints the glass.

Smell: roasted malts and chocolate tones leap from the glass and are easy to detect.

Taste: nice roasted malt platform with some sweet chocolate, bits of molasses, and a hint of prune sweetness. Bitterness was nicely balancing out the sweetness here.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer that was a bit thicker than some other porters but just short of approaching a stout. Aftertaste was brief. Smooth from start to finish.

Drinkability: this beer was easy to quaff and could be considered a session beer. Great balanced flavor that you sometimes don't get in a porter.
