I took a couple of my German buddies over to the YardHouse in Irvine for happy hour beers yesterday. We walked in with an oval-shaped bar right ahead of us. My buddies were amazed to see so many taps at one bar, even by typical YardHouse standards. They feature a mix of mainstream lagers, imports, and craft beers. I was happy to find St. Bernardus Abt. 12 on draft at this location. The bartender who served us gave us her opinions of what were the best tasting lagers (which my buddies were seeking and not familiar with the ones we have in the US). We each had two beers, with me ending witha Rogue Hazelnut brown. We ordered their chicken nachos as an appetizer, which were okay, a little more cheese and chicken wouldn't hurt. Overall, my buddies and I were impressed with the place.
As with any YardHouse, go for the happy hour M-F from 3-6pm, where you can get a St. Bernardus Abt. 12 for the same price as a Bud Light ($3.25), and half-off appetizers. If you can't, prepare to spend a little bit of money.

The $3.25 pints at Happy Hour saved this place from a bad review
Cannot get St. Bernardus ABT 12 anywhere else for this price on tap
Also have Ayinger Celebrator Dopplebock, both Brother David series beers from Anderson Valley, and Maresdous 8 Dubbel
Food was really disappointing, appetizers are expensive, small, and below average in taste
Service is bad when its busy because they only have 2 bartenders working a 360 degree bar
Lots of businessmen hang out here and have meetings
Inside the Irvine Spectrum across from a comedy venue
Happy Hour is awesome, but everything else is not recommended here

Located in a gigantic outdoor mall area in Irvine. Crowd is a bit pretentious for my tastes - more people seemed to be sipping their foo-foo martinis than actually enjoying the beer selection. The beer selection is the reason to bear the crowds and horrendous parking - over a hundred taps, with all the local beers covered pretty well. Service was fine, but certainly nothing outstanding. As for the food, some was really good, some disappointing. The pepper crusted filet was quite tasty, but my seafood pasta didn't taste very fresh.
Definitely a decent place to grab a pint, but you could save a few bucks by eating elsewhere.

I met a few friends here before the Jimmy Buffett concert. We had a few hours to waste and all of us had been to Buffett concerts before and we did not have any reason to relive the extreme partying going on in the parking lot before the show. It is fun, but after a few shows it can wear on a person. It is much better to spend the afternoon enjoying some pints in a quality beer hall. Even if the beer hall is extremely corporate.
This Yard House is located in an very large mall with so many shops and restaurants that a person could get lost. In fact, I have been here before, years ago, and I thought the mall was large. It has gotten larger. Us Americans love our malls. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing? I do know there is a place in this mall to get a few pints of quality beer. That is a good thing.
This Yard House is quite large. The style is typical of every YH I have been to. A large eliptical bar with many taps in the middle. Plenty of booths on the side and tables where they fit in. There are also many tvs for the sports viewer. In fact this YH has a tv station area for the staff to keep track of what sports and shows are on at any given time. When you walk in look to your right and you will see many small monitors displaying what they are presenting on the monitors in the dining and bar area.
This may be enjoyable for some and others may not care, but if you are seated in a booth on the right of the entrance there are small windows which show the cooler where the kegs are stored. A person can figure out that the beer lines go from the cooler in large tubes connected to the ceiling and then down to the kegs. All beers are served too cold here.
I had not been to a YH in a few years. The food was good, but the portions were inadaquate. We first ordered a few appetizers, thinking this would be enough before the concert. The food was of good quality but there was not enough of each appetizer to satisfy the group. Some of us ended up ordering extra appetizers or entrees to satiate our hunger. A bit more for the price would be nice. Good quality food, even if the portions seemed small.
Our service was good but not great. When we got there the place was packed at the bar. We were quickly seated at a large table. Our waitress was attentive but a bit too quick for our mellow style. She would take an order from one person and be gone before another person could order. Her timing was off. Speed kills. Our waitress needed to settle down. She was very nice but too high strung.
The beer selection is very good. No one is going to find obscure beer here but this YH had a very good selection. Not too many repeats on the taps and not one beer that a person at our table ordered was missing. As far as the group was concerned, we had: IPAs, Belgians, Lambics, Browns, Dark Ales, Pale Ales and then some. A good quality selection.
This is a Yard House, so who knows what to expect. Overall, they have a good tap selection and some quality food. I don't search out Yard Houses, but if they are in the mix they are definately worth the stop. We had a fine time before the Jimmy Buffett concert. Just to let you know, JB put on a fine show and we had a great time. He is quite a showman.

The Yardhouse - Irvine is located in this enormous mall of I-5 in Irvine. It is an enormous place. Big beautiful rectangular bar down the middle of the place with tables everyhwere. I think the tap count was 110 but only about 25 would be interesting to BA's. Had majority of west coast micros including one or two from Hawaii. Interesting though they had no Stone at it right down the road (sort of?)
Place is a little too sleek and dimly light for me and the crowd was really young, I mean like 21 years young. I was there on a Monday night and no one was there so I got lots of attenton once the 2 bartenders got an idea I was here to try a wide variety of beers and drop some cash on dinner. Only one of the bartenders knew anything about beer.
Food was good to very good although menu was fairly basic, did have few interesting sounding dishes.
There is alot better places to get beer in the area but if your stuck in Irvine for business then you could definitely do worse. Lots of other good restaurants a short walk away.

I usually make it to the Yard House at the Spectrum every time I'm in Irvine, and I'm always glad I made the stop. It's definitely got a chain-restaurant atmosphere, but it's also the most pub-like place I've been in Irvine, and I like the dim lights, dark wood, long bar and TVs offered in the place.
The beer list is long indeed, but doesn't offer anything terribly rare or exotic, with a few exceptions. I had the house Amber Tripel on my last visit, and was quite impressed with it; I would be inclined to try more of their house offerings next time.
It's really a restaurant as much as a bar, and the service reflected that. The staff seemed well-trained and were friendly and competent. The food is good, and while I thought it was a little bit pricey, it's probably well in-line for Irvine cost-of-living.

Your standard Yardhouse. An obscene about of beers on-tap, somewhere around 140. Lots of macros, domestic and imported. Maybe about 15 beers that would get a beer-geek excited. They don't seem to rotate their taps much, the list is printed on a menu and it seems like it doesn't change much. The atmosphere is rather sterile and a bit corporate. It's not at all like a bar but more like a slightly upscale restaurant. If you ever find ourself stuck at the Irvine Spectrum it's certainly a good place to stop and have a brew.
