Average looking red and gold labeling on a brown 50cl bottle.

Pours a nice dark mahogany with reasonable 1" off-white head, good head retention.

Great fruity aroma.

Nice flavor. Good dark ale with lots of fruitiness, and mild English hops. Just as I like it.

Slightly more bitter aftertaste and finishing flavor than the first swig. Otherwise this may have been a 4.5.

I will definitely have this again when available.

Pours a pleasant deep amber hue, with a fine bubbled head of off-white bubbles. Lacing is excellent. Decent body. All up, it's a really good looking English Ale.

Grain and a little butterscotch sweetness on the nose, cut through with a lightly green hop character, that smells a little like poster paint. The sweetness is quite pleasant at least. Pretty decent.

Taste is surprisingly thin given the thick look in the body, and the sweet characters on the nose. Some butterscotch on the front, but it washes away into a mid-palate emptiness before a slightly earthy hop bitterness on the back. Mouthfeel is slick at least, but it doesn't have a lot of body to it.

It's a drinkable enough English beer. There's some sweetness to it which is mostly balanced be the bitterness, and it looks right proper. There's something to the emptiness though that leaves me too feel a little empty after drinking it.

Pours copper beer with decent off-white head. Low retention, nice laces. Excessively sweet aroma of malt, caramel & toffee. So is taste - sweet malt & brown sugar with pretty hop palate. Dry mouthfeel. Full-bodied and middle carbonated, it seems to be not a typical bitter.

Coming in a new short-neck, slim brown packaging, BB 10/07/09, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.

A: coming in a moderately carbonated, dark copper hue with bright russet-brown glows, carrying a beige frothy head with decent retention.
S: aromatic notes of malts and mixed (Northdown+Fuggles?) hops, set against a solid backbone consisting of caramelised sugar, nut-flavoured toffee, toasted apples, faint citrus, and sweetened black tea. Pretty Premium-Bitter like, juicy, but slightly sweet for the balance.
T: full-bodied brown malts, caramelised sugar, lightly dry-nutty bitterness of roast malts and sweet black tea upfront gradually give way to an aromatic mixed dark-fruitiness, with a unique, tangy/sour-yeasty undertone lagging behind. The slightly tannic but consistently aromatic tea-leafy taste of dried hops outlives other enjoyable elements, rendering a chewy and dry palate in the end. Good hop work!
M&D: mildly carbonated exactly like the appearance, hence smooth and mellow for a Premium Bitter and in an interesting contrast with the dry-ish bitter palate overall. Not as brilliant as the cask version which I had the luck to taste some years ago, but overall still a successful filtered beer in a bottle! More like a well-hopped Brown Ale to me, btw.

This pours a copper colour with a fairly generous head. The nose is fairly fresh: cut grass; lemon; maybe a hint of chocolate in there too.

This is much richer and sweeter than I had anticipated. It is slightly oaky tasting with a bit of brown sugar and is only very slightly bitter in the aftertaste.

Good carbonation makes this a good allrounder. I could bang a few back!

500ml dark brown bottle, brewed to celebrate 'Rememberance Day'.

Poured in a straight Bateman's pint glass.

Dark mahogany in colour, very clear and clean looking, good biege head. Looks good.

The aroma was fairly weak, some hops and malts, but nothing to set your senses alight.

The taste is a very dry hoppy affair, very dry compared to most English bitters.

The 5.2% is in the mouthfeel, the dryness is also very prominent in the aftertaste.

The beer is OK, but not great.

got this one in a supermarket in All Saints ... at a bargain price (compared with the other ales sold here) ... nevertheless a slight surprise ... nice bitter taste combined with dark belgian chocolate sweetness and some cherry like fruityness ... sure a brew to be considered, especially at this price ....
