An award winner as far as golden ales go...given the smoking hot deal on a 4 pack I got I feel like I'm already a winner

Well...looks golden...as in a nice dark amber....lot's of fine carbonation bubbles = an English Ale head fit for a king.

Classic aromas...really is there more to add...ok...this...really liked the fruitiness that lies underneath all the classics.

Smooth, without some of the iron water twang prevalent in some Anglo ales. Again some nice fruitiness that pokes thru the withering tea-like bitterness.

Given the low ABV I was surprised at how much body this brew has...maybe goes flattish a bit too soon, but overall that's a minor detail

English session ale par excellence

500ml can. This may be an ode to a beloved English writer's walk in the local fields, but around here in Alberta, the name Wainwright inspires no such heady prose.

This beer pours a crystal clear, medium golden amber hue, with two fingers of densely foamy, rather creamy eggshell white head, which leaves a near solid wall of multivariant, webbed painted lace around the glass as things duly move southwards.

It smells of bready, biscuity pale malt, a mild honey sweetness, a bit of apple fruitiness, and earthy, leafy noble hops. The taste is more understated pale, grainy malt, a touch of breakfast biscuit, mild orchard fruit notes, and subtle earthy, leafy hops. Simple, but that's its thing, apparently.

The bubbles are quite low-key, and mostly innocuous throughout, the body medium-light in weight, and generally smooth, an oh so slight pithiness pecking at its heels. It finishes off-dry, the mostly unchecked sweetness petering out slowly, with the musty hops holding fast in their basic inequity.

A so-so pale ale of the English pale ale bent, with some pleasantly mixed fruity notes, and little more. The kind of offering that defines a sort of easygoing session experience, the kind where you might be less than concerned with the state of your walk on the way home, I suppose.

Poured into a shaker pint, bright golden colour, with a lot of active carbonation, some nice film and light lacing on this ale.

S- bright clean malty note, bready malt, honey, some mild liquorice, apple, lemon. Subtle, overall clean and fresh, but mild.

T- a clean barley malt, then a nice bit of english hops, slight granary bread, field-like notes, lemon cake, bitterness lasts till the end, some mild fruity apple notes. Finishes clean and crisp with a balanced dryness. Really tasty, and nicely balanced flavour profile.

M- clean crisp body, very refreshing and sessionable. Overall light carbonation, but really smooth maltiness comes through with a nice lemon citrus bitterness. Moderate malty coating body, well balanced bitterness.

A good example of a solid English Bitter that has some more assertive flavour. Nicely balanced and tasty, particularly for a session ale, a bit of earthy spice to liven it up. Good complex beer. Wouldn't mind finding it on cask and having it again.
