A 440ml can with a BB of May 2013 (contains a nitro widget). Picked up cheap from a B&Ms the other day. Also called the Northern Smoothie on the label.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. Settles with the 'Guinness effect'. A clear orange-amber colour with virtually no carbonation. Forms a huge head of creamy off-white foam with excellent retention; this settles to a thick layer that won't budge. Aroma of faint caramel malt and little else - perhaps a whiff of stewed hops. Uninspiring.

Tastes of subtle caramel malt with a mild, dry finish. Notes of light grain, caramel, hints of fruity ale yeast and weak stewed hops. A delicate bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and slightly tingly, with a thin, insubstantial body. Somewhat astringent, followed by an aftertaste of faint malt and stewed leaves.

Inoffensive but bland. Nothing technically wrong with it but pretty characterless. Easy-drinking; I guess it could work when you just want to quench a thirst. No need to seek this one out.

Pours a clear golden colour, still with no bead to speak of. Head is wonderfully thick and creamy, like a nitro-pressurised brew should be. Small and medium bubbles appear on the top but head retains; lace is wonderfully thick and silky. Nice-looking English ale.

Nose is slightly tangy with a fair malty backbone, slightly caramel with a hint of banana. Some slightly green hoppy notes with slight herbal aroma, fruity hints and some vanilla on the back. Not really to my tastes, doesn't excite me.

Taste is quite grainy. Fair malty sweetness giving off wheat and oatmeal notes with a sweet touch of honey. Mid gets more earthy and slightly sour with hints of vanilla bean, some herbs and maybe some green tea. Quite mild, with a majority of sweetness, a milky aspect as well that is helped by the very creamy mouthfeel. Still and a bit flat, but smooth as well.

Yeah, mild, sessionable. A decent cleanser. Not a huge fan but it's a good simple brew.

Pours with the typical huge nitro hiss from the can, a deep copper gold colour, with a very fine creamy head of white foam. Lacing is, as expected, extremely good. I can't help it, I love the look of a nice nitro poured beer, so I think it looks great.

Slight peppery notes on the nose, with a little organic type of turned earth. Bit of sweetness, a bit of grain character. Not huge, but pleasant enough - and certainly not as devoid of character as I feared it may have been.

Taste is a little thinner. Some mild grain notes followed by a light earthy bitterness that lingers for a while, but is very soft. Feel is surprisingly thin, certainly lacking body and slickness. I was expecting more from the nitro can.

I think it's a pretty decent and easy drinking English Ale. It doesn't have a huge amount of character, but it is indeed very smooth, balanced and clean.

Thwaites Smooth has an alias and is also known as The Northern Smoothie.
0,44l nitro-can.
Pours amber in color beer with smooth creamy head. Some laces. Weak hop aroma, weak watery taste with tints of caramel, hideous ale, I'm a bit disturbed of this one.
