Having tried various Mild ales from Thwaites, I was rather pleased when this beer appeared in the local supermarket. The beer poured a dark brown with a dark cream coloured head, which faded to a thin film and lasted for about half the drink, not bad for a canned beer.

The nose was lacking, OK this isn't a wee heavy or Trappist ale, but I would have expected more. Faint sweetness, with a fresh scent, but overall I felt it was lacking. The taste really let this down, compaired to their flying shuttle or very nutty black this was a major disapointment. Not horrible; it just lacked taste.

The mouthfeel was perfect for a mild beer: light and refreshing on the tongue, but when the beer has zero taste then this is almost irrelevant. Disapointing.

500ml can poured into a standard English pint pot. This ale is branded as 'Champion' Dark Mild having twice been voted Champion Beer of Britain (so it says on the can).

A. A very deep, clear brown beer topped by a 1cm thick, tanned, smooth head.

S. Roasted malt and the slightest trace of raisins.

T. Roasted malt, slight coffee notes and a dryish, nutty finish.

M. Rather thin but given the low ABV is acceptible.

D. I am not a fan of Thwaites beers but this is quite a nice offering from them, especially as it was on offer at 50p a can!

Champion dark mild, fairly cheap in four packs of cans from Morrisons. Nice peaty colour with significant somewhat brown head. The nose is a rather earthy roasted malt affair. After an initial hint of dairy produce the roasted malt takes over and there is a pleasant hint of bitterness in the aftertaste. The feel is of the many minscule bubbles variety. Nothing special but nothing to complain about here either.
