Of all the places to have a great beer, I tried this one while waiting for a red eye flight at the Seattle Airport (they have a bar in Terminal 4 with 4 types of Mac and Jack beers...I tried two, I wish I had time for the others). Served to me with a thin, cream-colored head. A swirl of lace remained throughout. A solid looking beer: it appeared thick and hazy, with rich, colorful golden hues. The smell was dominated by the wheat malt, as was the taste. The beer tasted somewhat bready, and even had a slight lemon undertone in the taste, but I would not call this beer "sweet". There was a hop presence as well: it finished dry and slightly bitter. Medium body and light carbonation, definately not a watered-down wheat beer. Overall, I found this beer to be crisp, refreshing, and flavorful. Quite tasty and quite drinkable.

Had this beer on-tap at the Africa Lounge in Sea-Tac airport, which has quite a few Mac & Jack's offerings.

Appearance: rich orange-yellow with lots of haze and no head. Good, for the most part, but where's the foam? C'mon!

Smell: nice banana and wheat aroma, but it's a bit light for me. I don't know if this is just a feature of Mac & Jack's beers, or if it is a serving temperature issue. I let it warm a little, but it is still light.

Taste: well-balanced banana and clove flavors with a bit of a wheaty character. This is closer to a hefeweizen than a pale wheat ale, something about which I cannot complain.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a low level of carbonation. Not bad, but not really interesting either; the body is decent enough that the lac of carbonation doesn't totally destroy it.

Drinkability: a highly drinkable and refreshing hefeweizen. If I ever manage to find it anywhere else again, I'd definitely order another pint.

Mac & Jack's Brewery 2011 Serengeti Wheat. 4 oz. Taster @ Fremont, Seattle Hop Scotch Beer & Scotch Festival on 4/1/2011. 4.70% ABV. 25 IBU's. Mild lace white head. Opaque cloudy creamy orange color. Mild fruit ester hop front. Fruity dry sweet slightly creamy strawberry fruit wheat body. Dry clean refreshing end. Odd hefe flavor. Not quite NW with some Bavarian hints and rich fruity notes. (3.0 / 5.0).

On tap at the Two Seven Public House. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a deep gold color and is clear. Served with a small head.

Smell is faint to non-existent. Maybe a little malt aroma.

Taste is a grainy water flavor with a bit of a vegetable presence.

Mouthfeel is crisp and clean.

A drinkable brew but a real average wheat ale.

Dense apricot color with an airy white head, medium carbonation, and a near absent smell. The taste is light and dry in the American model, but not abundant. Finish is nice and grainy with an undercurrent of sugar and spice. Workable, but no showstopper.
