I had this on tap and as a cask conditioned beer at the brewery. The beer looks good as either, with a slightly matte brown color lots of head and lacing. The cask conditioned variety is a bit thinner and more watery. The on tap variety is at best medium bodied, but that may be pushing it a bit. It's a fairly low ABV affair too, I think I read 5.2%. The nose is rather thin.

Overall, the beer is rather simple. There are fuggles hops that you can barely discern and the beer is really about the dark malts, the slightly caramel taste, and the thin roasted quality. The cask conditioned brown has a bit more taste pulled out of the malts and things get a bit more complex with a variety of crystal malt dark flavors. The beer is quite good in either format. It is an easy drinking beer, none too complex, with just enough roasted malts to keep you coming back for another.

Pours a mild brown color with a one finger head into my glass.

Aroma is full of sweet malt that's reminiscent of brown sugar.

Taste is much the same. Easy to drink, though a bit thin on body.

Mouthfeel is thin as mentioned but overall taste is satisfactory.

An easy drinking brown ale that offers no frills, but rather a sublime drinking experience.
