Bottle from City Beer Store in SF, CA
Batch 76 (but no clear bottled on date)
Poured into a standard US pint glass
Damnation is an excellent Belgian Strong Pale Ale from Russian River, combining a variety of pleasantly mild flavors into a distinctively flavored beer that highlights all components and brings out their best. At the price point of $5 per bottle, this is a delicious and affordable Belgian ale; to be sought out and enjoyed when possible.
Beer pours 2.5cm head of fairly dense, small bubbles. Good head retention, leading to a drying out of top of foam, becoming meringue-like. Modest lacing as the head slowly declines to a ring around the glass and some islands of lace floating atop the body. Body itself is a golden color, minimally hazy from sediment, with carbonation visible along sides of glass.
Aroma of yeast, mild pineapple, very mild Brettanomyces, mild mealy apples, and sweet malt characters. Lots of mild aromas that coalesce into a very desirable complexity.
Taste is of pineapple, Brettanomyces mustiness and plastic resin, yeast, wheat malt, and very mild acetone. Closes out with a mildly sweet finish, which makes taking the next sip very desirable.
Beer is medium-bodied with fairly high, prickly carbonation. Perhaps the only point where this beer actually stumbles a bit, but the resulting mouthfeel is still alright, particularly after a bit of time elapses an the carbonation decreases.

a: golden hue with an ample white/slightly off-white head. Small lacing that retains fairly well.
s: On the nose I get pear, apples, and honey.
t: prickly carbonation, slightly tart with lemon, pepper, coriander coming through; finish with floral, spicy hops lingering
m: high carbonation, medium-light body
o: nice beer. I don't drink a lot in this style, but it's one of the better versions I've had in recent memory. This inexplicably sat in my cellar for a year (bottled 4/22/2013), and I am pleasantly surprised at how it has held up. Will get again next time I am within their distributors' range.
