Poured from a 375 mL. corked and caged bottle (Batch 063) into a tulip glass.
A moderate pour yields a 2-finger off-white head that slowly settles after a few minutes to a thick dusting and thick foam ring. The body is a orange gold with large, dark floaties suspended throughout. Thick lacing clings to the glass each time the glass is tipped but seems to have trouble tearing itself from the head.
Warm malts aromas lay the groundwork with notes of buttery popcorn, toffee, and fresh-baked bread. Citrusy hops aromas add on with notes of lemon oil and orange cream. A clove and peppery spiciness in the background adds yet another level to the complexity.
Flavors of bready and buttery malts impact the taste buds at the beginning of each sip and are quickly joined by flavors of ripe bananas, lemongrass, and clove. Swallowing allows even more of the Belgian yeast flavors to come out along with some peppery spiciness. This spiciness persists on the palate after each sip as an aftertaste.
The medium body really allows the flavors to strike the palate but never becomes coating or sticky. The carbonation fizzes only slightly and makes a nice, crisp swallow.
