Batch #072.Poured into a tulip glass a hazy lemon yellow with a large blooming white head that settled slowly into a frothy mass, aromas of pithy lemon hops, alcohol, and light yeasty spice.Flavors are citric and somewhat medicinal hop flavors up front on the palate, light yeasty phenols actuall mix well with the hop profile wich makes for a well rounded palate.A great beer for the style wich I expected from RR,somewhat refreshing even with a higher ABV.

Poured from a 375ml bottle into an oversized wine glass. Reviewed live. Batch 74.

A- Man is this beer foamy. I poured half the glass full and a half of that (two fingers) is a dense white head. Sticky, soapy lacing. Semi-cloudy golden hue. It looks quite nice.

S- Citrusy and boozy esters. Sort of a white wine smell with some light fruits. Light, sweet and yet boozy.

T- Golden malts, some sweetness and a smidgen of booze. Rather light flavor but well developed with what I can taste.

M- Smooth and wet, leaves no linger. Maybe a tad thin though.

O- The appearance is so nice, but everything else is lacking from true greatness.

A member of my wife's family brought this beer to me from California. She took the risk of putting it into her checked baggage. I appreciate her supporting my hobby so much and taking that risk. We don't get Russian River, and the limited distibution in Pennsylvania makes it harder to get ahold of.

I poured this beer into a goblet. And the beautiful golden color really looks good. The foam was very thin on this beer.

Off the top I got a very fresh smell, with a tiny bit of sour at the edges. This is a very tasty golden. I can tell the belgian presence at the edges. Damnation gets really good at the back end.

This beer was so light and tasty that I could drink it all day.

Serving: Bottle into an ale glass. Batch 072.

A: Pours a hazy yellow color. About a quarter inch of head remains on top. A fair level of carbonation is visible.

S: Spicy belgian smell, very bready and yeasty. A little lemon and pepper. Nice.

T: Definite belgian yeast notes. A little sweetness, some orange with lemon zest and just a touch of pepper. Very soft on the mouth.

M: Has a solid, thick mouth feel. Nice.

O: Not a bad brew at all. Picked this up during a recent trip to CA and I'm glad I did.

Batch 071, poured into a tulip.

A - Pours an attractive hazy golden color with a thick head (excellent retention) and good lacing.

S - Cloves, honey, citrus, orange zest, banana, yeast, and a bit of peppery spiciness. As you can tell, there's quite a bit going on.

T - Clove and bananas hit first, followed by the Belgian yeast and some peppery notes. Some apple notes as well. Overall, it has a nice bready taste throughout - well balanced and no one flavor overwhelms.

M - Slightly lighter than medium bodied, smooth but a bit chewy as well. Good carbonation levels. Just a bit of a peppery aftertaste.

O - Damnation is one of the best "Strong Pale Ales" I've had. It's extremely well done and complex without being overwhelming. It may not blow you away at first, but as you drink it, you realize that this is beer made at the pinnacle of one's craft. Highly, highly recommended.

Looks the part, hard to tell the difference between this and an actual Belgian. Resembles Duvel. Pours a lemony gold. Not hazy, but cloudy enough you can't see through. A bright white head on top, thin, but sticks around a while.

The nose picks up nice flavors. Honey, lemon, grass, pear, pepper.

Tastes follow the lead of the smell. Honey and lemon dance on the tongue, pepper plays a minor role.

Feel is complex. Sweetness hits first, but it's just the right amount. The back of the tongue is where the party starts. Spicy, tart, slightly bitter, tangy, all at once. The finish is dry and cleansing.

This is a helluva good beer. About as close to a real Belgian as I've head. Wish I had more than one.

Served in tap at Eulogy in Philadelphia.
A - Dark straw yellow, modest head, decent lacing.
N - Clean, with minimal fragrance.
T - Excellent representation of style, could easily have been brewed in Belgium.
M- Very nice, though nothing outstanding, just good for this style.
Overall - if you enjoy the Begian Golden Ale style, you should enjoy this offering from Russian River. I don't think I have ever tasted anything below average from this brewery!

Paired nicely with some good sushi tonight.

A: Nice tight, white head. The beer is incredibly clear and very pale. A sort of milky yellow color. Good lacing.

S: Sour Lemon zest.

T: VThe taste is only very slightly sour. Lemon cream on the aftertaste. In my opinion, it's not that great.

M: Somewhat creamy, carbonation.

O: Prefer bigger, hoppier beers (right now!). Solid for what it is.

I have a few more around and look forward to drinking them.
