Appearance - Pours a near black, deep cola brown with a light tan, 3 finger head. Phenomenal retention, leaving behind a thick layer of bubbles on the surface. Lacing is spotty, with fair stick.
Smell - Dark sugared sweetness and an equal note of sourness, like black cherry.
Taste - Follows the nose- moderate dark sugary sweetness, also touching on chocolate, coffee and toffee, mixed with a light cherry sourness. Wonderful balance, finishing a touch more sweet than bitter, and with a bit of sourness too.
Mouthfeel - Medium in body with live, but fluffy carbonation, leaving a light, dry finish.
Overall - A lovely beer. Nice, complex flavor that, unlike several of it's Dark Belgian counterparts, doesn't fall victim to an oversaturation of sugary sweetness. Great balance. This is one I'll definitely have to revisit when I make it up to the RR pub.
