Biere de Sonoma at RR Brewpub
from notes 10 October 2011
hazy, light brown with a small but full off-white head: pleasant earth tones.
very mild aromas of belgian sugars, some pine syrup, and a little grass and fruit like a mild pear.
nonabrasive aromas. not very much else.
so subtle! some pine, some florals, belgian yeast, a bit bread-y, a really smooth maltiness that reminds me of a very mellow english ale or a super-mild brown ale.
lightly, very lightly bitter with a semi dry finish. superbly restrained.
it's a pleasant drinker: not too bitter or biting, not too sweet, and not too dry. it's very refreshing.
lovely beer. the aromas and flavors are very subtle yet it remains refreshing and interesting to the last sip.
it is nearly the perfect all-around brew for any food; i could see pairing this with nearly any cuisine successfully.
they put this beer in the dough used for their pizzas. brilliant. incredible restraint behind this one.
cheers

At the brewery in Santa Rosa. Had hope for this as I haven’t had a beer of this style for many years. But it was a bit plain and subdued, like a watered down Saison.

I loved this beer! It was a great example of balance and restraint in a beer. Not too hoppy, very smooth and session-able. The yeast is front and center and it’s great. Clear as a bell , see through and on the medium brown color spectrum. 6.25 ABV

July 27th, 2015 - Four more beers left in the orchestra of beer samplers left, and this one is the perdition. Dark and brown but with a solid clarity it looks like a brown ale, and smells of cherry notes, both tangy and tart. But the flavor has a touch of cough medicine on a flat body. Acidic and low and simple, it's not today's star.
