Notes/Commercial Description:
Brown Ale aged in used Pinot Noir barrels from local Sonoma County wineries. It is aged for about 12 months with sour cherries, brettanomyces, lactobacillus, and pediococcus added to each barrel. Flavors from the cherries, Pinot Noir and oak balance each other nicely with a little funk from the brett.

Poured from a 375ml bottle into a Russian River "tion" glass. Bottled on 12/17/2012.

A: Pours a finger of very thin bone colored head with a reddish brown body. What there was in head quickly fizzes away to a cap and ring. Nice sudsy lacing which slides down the glass quickly.

S: Fantastic nose. The first thing I noticed was tart cherries leading into a nice wine soaked oak. Transfers to a musty, dirty hay funk in the middle and some pleasant cheesy tang in the finish.

T: Tart, juicy cherries and acidic stomach acid up front leading into some excellent wine barrel and musky B.O. Finishes with a nice lactic sourness and some nice chocolate malts to bring you down.

Mf: Prickly carbonation with a medium feel. Sharp and drying. Sip sip sip.

Overall: An outstanding AWA from Russian River. Nice juicy almost Kriek like cherries, and acetic short sharp shock with lost of remaining wine from the barrels in the middle. The musky jock strap Brett on the way down and the lactic acid tang complete the package. Really an outstanding sour ale from Russian River.

Chalice pour at Via Marconi's Pizza Pub, Hatfield, PA

A- Amber hue. Light white head retains at a ring. Semi-hazy.

S- A little tartness is detectable by the nose. Cherry, and maybe a little peach.

T- Sweet and tart, peach and cherry. A bit of tang, but not so strong. Malt is detectable, a bit of a bready character, in the background.

M- Zippy carbonation. Finish is semi-dry, just a little sweet. Body fairly light.

O- This seems to be Consecration's little brother. A little lighter, a little lower ABV, a little less tangy. But a very great beer.

Serving type: on-tap
