Notes/Commercial Description:
Brown Ale aged in used Pinot Noir barrels from local Sonoma County wineries. It is aged for about 12 months with sour cherries, brettanomyces, lactobacillus, and pediococcus added to each barrel. Flavors from the cherries, Pinot Noir and oak balance each other nicely with a little funk from the brett.

Batch 007

Moderate head builds; lots of soap, fades fast too. No lacing, but great clarity for this type of brew. The head is to be expected.

Huge cherry notes. Big sour scent. Almost stings the nose.

Whoa! Immediate sourness smacks your palette. Then cherry bitter cherry skin kicks in... This loses it a bit for me; it's very black cherry. Carbonation is very high, but fits the flavor/style well. Dryness is moderate with decent sweetness to assist.

Recommended. I'm anxious to see where this brew goes in time... I'll be sure to update. It's sour, but not mind buckling sour. The Pinot Noir barrels do this brew wonders.

A: pours reddish clear, with a very short lasting head, no lace or halo, seems common for sours.
S: slight funk, sour cherry, bit of oak and wine, not very familiar with pinot noir to pick that out.
T: sour at first, then some sour cherries, a certain sweetness on the back-end. gets more sour as it warms. a little oaky, and some hints grape but not exactly sure. ive had only tastes in the past, this is my first bottle to myself.
M: light both over the mouth, and light carbonation.
O: can i buy a case? i like this, especially for being a non-Belgian beer.

Reviewed from notes. Drank on 4/13/12.

This was one of the two beers that I tried to see if I liked Sour beers. I don't. This "beer" poured a strawberry blonde into a snifter. Their was a rush of carbonation that left no head and no lacing. This one tastes Like a sour cherry wine cooler. Zero beer taste. I should note that I do not like wine and this beer had a very distinct pinot noir flavor to it. Every sip made me pucker up and shiver from the sourness of everything in one beer. Sour beers are not for me.

Giving this a 2nd try. I didn't think much of it about a year ago, but I have grown to like Sours since.

375ml bottle (batch 7) poured into RR Tulip

A: Reddish brown color, it's transparent, but a bit murky. Lots of bubbles forming in the bottom of the cup. Half a finger head, almost no lacing.

S: Sour fruit... (cherries probably as written on the bottle - hard to make out), yeast, vinegar-like scent, maybe a bit of grapes

T: Tartness and sourness hit you - then a small pause - then more sourness towards the end. I get the wine flavor in my mouth a little bit and at the end lingering (mostly as an after taste), but it's mostly sour, acidic, and tart cherries, lemon (especially in the middle and towards the end, lemon kicks in, followed by extreme second wave of sourness). Very very sour (but not as sour as Beatification)

M: High carbonation, light-to-medium body. Near Perfect.

O: I enjoyed this bottle a lot more than my first one. In fact, I will drink this more in the near future. I still seem to prefer Temptation and Beatification over this one, but regardless, an excellent sour.
