Notes/Commercial Description:
Brown Ale aged in used Pinot Noir barrels from local Sonoma County wineries. It is aged for about 12 months with sour cherries, brettanomyces, lactobacillus, and pediococcus added to each barrel. Flavors from the cherries, Pinot Noir and oak balance each other nicely with a little funk from the brett.

On draft at Freshcraft in Denver

Pours a clear brown body, 1/2 inch off white head. Lacing and head retention were good.

Smell is of very light vinegar but dominated by tart fruit like cherry and kumquat. There is also some oak at the end.

Taste is of straw malt mixed with sour apples. Sour pickle brine is also present along with some puckering tannins you'd get from a dry chardonnay. No hops or alcohol was detected.

Mouthfeel is light, puckering and finishes dry. Carbonation is perfect but the head was only semi present.

Overall this was a good refreshing beer. Would love to have this in the mountains on a spring day. Not too much into the particular style but would definitely buy another bottle whenever it rarely pops up.

Appearance: Very dark amber color with a small head of pure white bubbles that hangs around for quite a while and some lacing. Nice and inviting.

Smell: Sour and unique aroma. Very fruity but I'm having difficulty picking out anything specific. Smells great though.

Taste: This is an amazing beer. The flavor revolves on my palate from sour to cherries to salty to bread to the moon. I am truly blown away by this beer.

Mouthfeel: Great mouthfeel. Perfect carbonation and perfect body. Just perfect.

Overall: So impressed by this beer and would happily drop another $15 to get another bottle.

A: pours a slightly hazy orange with less than a finger of beige head that fades into a thin ring with no lacing.

S: lots of tart cherries, sour, and funky aromas. There are sweet candy sugar and bubblegum notes underneath. Smells quite good.

T: lots of tart and sour notes up front with some lighter acetic flavors. Some funky and tart cherry flavors bring up the finish.

M: medium-light body with medium carbonation, this beer is fairly crisp and dry.

O: a good sour overall, though the taste doesn't have quite the complexity of the nose. Still, very enjoyable.

Thanks to TicoCali for this.

Pours a quite transparent burnt umber. Very attractive. Not much head to speak of. Just a whisper of off-white that dissipates immediately. Lots of cherries in the initial nose, but that gives way to both a sharpness of what I guess would be the pinot barrels and a bluntness of wood (guess what that's attributed to). I don't know if brett's involved, but there is a layer of funk in the nose, as well. There is a robustness to the nose, like vanilla-coated cranberries. Holy moly, this is a great sour. Just a wisp of sweetness at the start and then a torrent of pucker grabs your tongue. Getting some green apple-type pucker with deeper raisin and wine notes. At the very end, there's a semi-thick layer that blunts the sour onslaught and invites a new sip. Very interesting how much the middle bounces off the tongue and how buoyant this sour is. Great stuff.

Like It? Yes, Of Course

375mL bottle poured into a tulip
Batch 008

A: Hazy dark amber brown with a redish hue. 1 fingers width sea foam white head which dissipates relatively quickly to a very small rim and leaves no lacing.

S: Brett, banana, apples, sour cherries, subtle oak and candied sugar.

T: Such powerful flavors. Big tart sourness, banana, apple, sour white grape, Belgium yeast on the finish. There is also an acidic quality, some red wine flavors come on late, and it leaves a lingering sweet after taste of banana. So good.

M/D: Heavy carbonation, medium bodied with a vibrant lively mouthfeel. You could certainly drink multiples in a session.

O: Great beer! Excellent tart sourness with some bready malt rounded out with Belgium yeast.  Well balanced with strong but not over powering sourness.   This is the third RR wild ale I've had the pleasure of drinking. All were fantastic (supplication, consecration, and temptation), I think I may slightly like temptation the best however all are wonderful and I'd gladly drink any of them any chance I could get.
