Notes/Commercial Description:
Brown Ale aged in used Pinot Noir barrels from local Sonoma County wineries. It is aged for about 12 months with sour cherries, brettanomyces, lactobacillus, and pediococcus added to each barrel. Flavors from the cherries, Pinot Noir and oak balance each other nicely with a little funk from the brett.

One of my best beer drinking experiences I've ever had.

Had it before last year at Hunahpu Day at Cigar City, but it kind of got lost in the incredible smorgasbord of beers we drank. Had it the other day via the kindness of a new found friend, and it blew me away properly.

It's so tart and refreshing I just want to keep drinking it, but at 7% it can sneak up on you. An excellent sour ale. Tart hints of grapes and maybe some lemony notes in the aroma. Good sour funk. Very similar and equally delicious flavor.

Russian River never fails to impress me.

375mL bottle of Batch 4, served in a tulip glass.

Pour: deep and dark burnt orange with minimal white head.

Nose: rich of pinot noir grapes, brett, lemon, and maraschino cherries. It all blends together perfectly; just a joy to sniff.

Taste: Sour cherry flavor is at the forefront, and there’s an excellent balance of brett, oak, and cranberry in the back.

Mouthfeel: Slight club soda finish with moderately heavy tartness.

Overall: A masterpiece in complexity, balance, and straight-out deliciousness.

Poured into my Jackie O's tulip...

A: Supplication is a dark, somewhat cloudy copper color. This particular copper, however, has hints of red towards the center of the brew and some straw gold on the edges. The head on this is gorgeous, with a consistent, tight half finger of the bubbly stuff. For the most part, it forms a neck around the edges of the beer. A hard swirl, however, brings it up to a full finger that covers the top. Very nice lacing, a moderately thick slick is left behind with each sip.

S: Classic wild ale smells on this one: tart cherry, grape skin, musty hay, funk. The herbal notes in the bouquet here are fairly unique...I'm getting some lavender and faint traces of sweet spice, almost like potpourri.

T: Cherries, grapes, little bit of tomato sauce and lots and lots and lots of barrel. The wood is all over this, providing quite a bit of astringency along with the cherries. The finish is almost all wood and pucker, though I also get a surprising bready malt presence, almost grainy.

M: The sour fans will be happy, as this one packs a bit of a punch. Well-balanced, though, with the fruit and barrel flavors. Wood may be just a little too prominent for its own good, as I think the finish is bowled over by tannic and oak notes. Carbonation also seems just a touch high, covers up the flavors ever so slightly.

O: A very well-crafted wild ale by Russian River. It's not as good as Consecration, but it is still one of the better Wilds I have had. I am officially pumped to get into Beatification now.
