A good runner up to Pliny the Elder. Bitter, full of taste, nice amber color.

Poured from 510 ml bottle in to pint glass
A- Clear golden color with about a one finger head. Little lacing down the glass with lingering bubbles
S- Some citrusy hops, juniper bush, floral hops. Nice smells going on here.
T- A little more piney hops in the taste with some nice bitterness, but not too much. Good balance.
M- Very light, almost crisp. Again, good bitterness on the back end of the sip
O- Really solid IPA. I like this one.

Not quite on the level of the Pliny's but an excellent beer

This beer is great. I think I like this beer better than Pliny. Much better balance of flavor.

My favorite pale ale by a long shot. This brewery can't go wrong.

If you take the label off the beer, I would say it is a good not great beer. Russian River makes amazing beers, but this one lacks the sweet malt/hop pop I have come to expect from west coast IPAs. Worth it for sure!

Bottle poured into Russian River nonic pint glass

A: Pours deep golden yellow with a frothy off white head that hangs around a while and laces well.

S: Citrus and pine hops dominate the nose, with a very light malt sweetness behind.

T: Big citrus hops up front, grapefruit tangerine and a touch of lemon and lime, some pine, with a just enough malt backbone.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, very crisp and drinkable.

O: While it isn't Pliny, it still holds it's own as a very tasty IPA. More than happy to review this one for my 100th on BA.

Bottle from Lothore, thank you very much Tyler.

Pours a white, froth head, with a honey-golden color.

Fresh aromas of tropical, fruity hops, peach, orange and mango, along with honeyed pine and smooth caramel - finely nuanced with hints of citrus peel. Fresh, fruity hops are hovering above a sweet, honeyed malt backbone, while hints of lime acidity becomes detectable underneath. Hops sting the palate in a refreshing, dry fashion, without ever getting too aggressive. Honeyed, piny, malts wrap up the hops in a well balanced way, along with wisps of whitebread and grass, still, this beer is huge on the bitterness. The taste results in a smooth, dry ending, which is very bitter and hop driven, as malts tend to vanish. Finishes with hops lingering on the palate for a long time, developing a fascinating pleasant depth, as they turn from being fruity to a more bitter, dry impression. A classic IPA, focused on the bitterness, fantastic balanced.

Pint tumbler pour at Monk's Cafe, Philly.

A- Golden, with a slight orange hue. Off white head with great lacing, however retention isn't great.

S- Citrus and pine. Juicy. Pineapple. Just a faint malt sweetness, but who needs it with all this juice.

T- Nice sweet pineapple and citrus. There is a bit of toasty malt as well.

M- Mellow bitterness. Juicy, wet. The finish is dry, but really great.

O- Where is the hype to this one?! This is such a fantastic little brother to Pliny, and well overlooked. I'm glad I finally got to try this one. So great, and I'll be going out of my way to find it again.

17.25 ounce bottle poured into a shaker pint glass.

Appearance - Bright yellow color. A little hazy. A nice head made up of very fine bubbles. Good stickage.

Smell - Lemon rinds.

Taste - Big hops up front. Citrus. Slight spearmint flavor.

Mouth - Fizzy yet buttery.

Overall - Hoppy with a twist. I made mention of the spearmint flavor and the buttery mouth. California IPAs can be very crisp (bitter?). This California IPA is a little smoother than most. A fine, sophisticated ale.

Like a toned down version of Pliny The Elder. This is an excellent beer with a great balance of hops and citrus. If I could get this on a regular basis, I would. The difference for me when speaking of Pliny is the pine aroma and taste.

Bottom Line: The Pig Delivers.

Pliny overshadows how good this beer is.

It's always tough getting your hands on one of these being that i live in So Cal and this isnt distributed much in my area. I've found a bar in Alhambra that gets this on tap from time to time. Other then that when a friend brings me one of these when they go up north i owe them dinner! lol

On tap at Teresa's in Wayne, PA.

Gold colored, not so much orange as with many other IPAs I've been drinking lately. It smelled pretty good, with a lot of hops and florals. The taste was excellent. Very smooth, light with lots of fruit and flowers, not a hint of bitterness anywhere.

Grossly overrated, mediocre IPA at best. Tastes of latex gloves and rubber tennis balls, some notable citrus and pine notes but overall, nothing to write home about. The fact this beer is no longer seeing distro has just elevated the hype to whole new levels.

A - Crystal clear, gold body. Bright, almost neon, white head with great retention and nice lace.

S - Herbal nose; pine, sage, parsley. Touch of banana and starchy plantain.

T - Bold woody hops up front with cardamon, bitter dandelion, and parsley. Lightly sweet bread crust and orange center. Pithy bitter finish.

M - Bright carbonation with a creamy and surprisingly thick body for a single IPA.

O - About as big as single IPA's get. Assertively bitter with a really nice flavor profile. Better nose on tap than in bottle.

Bottle received in a trade.

Pours an orange-ish amber color, with a foamy, soapy one inch head, and a ton of lacing, sheets upon sheets of it.

Smells like pineapple, orange, tons of pine, very tropical.

Tastes great, an incredibly easy drinking and flavorful hop bomb here. Just the slightest hit of a pale malt backbone, but this is mostly a story of hops, and more hops. Bitter pine, but not overly so, and some grapefruit, candied pineapple, etc. Just really, really tasty.

This one has a medium body, with a great, billowy, slightly creamy, but crisp mouthfeel. Very drinkable.

Lives up to the hype. Just real nice.
