Mad off-white lace over pale amber.
Mint leaf and lemon zest on the nose.
Light caramel and toast, some orchard fruits (yellow plum, peach) then light pine, citrus, and resin in perfect ratio.
Tangerine skin end and children’s aspirin linger.
Light to slightly medium, oily, a bit of chew.

Balanced like a katana. So light, crisp, round and just the right amount of hoppy. Deserves its legendary status.

Bottle from the brewery. Bottled 2-24-14 and poured on 3-4-14. Oooh fresh. Pours to my wine glass a mostly clear golden copper color with a very creamy one finger white head on top. Classic grapefruit and pine aroma, some mango and pineapple, more pine and grass. Flavor is sweet tropical fruits behind massive pine bitterness. Resinous mouthfeel, medium carbonation, and extremely smooth. I do see why this is so loved, and it is quite a fantastic IPA with a lot of heft despite the lowish ABV. Good stuff.

No finer beer on the planet then Russian Rivers' Blind Pig IPA.

A hoppy beer with a wonderful bitter bite to start off on the first sip. The head is creamy and alive and when a fresh keg is tapped, you get the full experience of a remarkable IPA. Usually tapped in at 6.1-6.25 alcohol, this IPA is not seasonal in any form as it is made for year enjoyment.

Prost!

A; Slightly dark golden color, white head.

S: Notes of pine, and mandarin orange in the nose.

T: Pine, citrus, hops, and a pleasant bitterness in the flavors.

M: Medium bodied, smooth for an IPA, very drinkable.

O: Superior to Pliny the Elder, Inferior (though only slightly), to Pliny the Younger.

Appearance: Nice golden yellow color, good white head, leaves good lacing

Smell: Citrusy, grapefruit, and some floral notes

Taste: Some bitterness, nice citrus flavors, and a little pine. Just enough malty sweetness to keep things in balance, but no too much to overdo it. Stikes an amazing balance few beers do

Mouthfeel: Medium body, good carbonation

Overall: Excellent IPA, a gold standard. Wish Russian River had a bigger distribution area, but I'm glad they focus on quality.

The beer has a white two-inch foamy head that dissipates quickly and leaves a very white with lacing. The beer is an orange and golden amber that is clear and filtered. Even though the head quickly dissipates, the beer still has some creamy covering. The beer smell has citrus and orange hoppy notes. However, the smell has a bit of lightly roasted malt as its backbone and a hint of pepper as well. The beer taste is very different from the beer smell. The lightly roasted malt backbone is more prominent with a grapefruit hop taste as well as hints of pepper and other mineral taste. The beer has a medium body with clean smooth feel as well as a clean aftertaste feeling. The beer has biting carbonation. A pretty good and unique IPA that I would like to have again.

This is my favorite IPA. I'm not saying it's the best, but personally, I love it.

The appearance and mouthfeel are spot on, but there is only so much to be done with an IPA. It's a healthy copper color, with a resinous head and a clean, crisp, but not watery mouthful.

The smell has strong notes of grapefruit, pine, and fresh citra hops (I don't actually know if they're in there, but it certainly tastes like it). It's both distinct and wonderful; the two don't usually go together. But here? They do.

Taste mimics the smell, with pine, citrus, and fresh floral hops dominating the front end. After that hop resin and just the right amount of malts clean up the palette. It's not as dry as a northwest style IPA, so it won't be off putting to those who don't want to feel like they're drinking liquefied plants, but it's not so sweet it will put off those who do (like me). In the end it occupies a sweetness middle ground few IPA's do.

Overall, this is the first, and maybe last (I'm looking at you 2013 Abyss), overall 5 I've posted.

Yeah, I like this one.

Pours orangey golden with a white head. Aroma is citrus and its rind, floral, grainy, and piney. Flavor is floral, citrus rind, toasted bread, interesting graininess, and pine. A crisp, active mouthfeel. Overall, very nice IPA. While I definitely get why so many people love this beer, I only liked it, personally. Would drink again.

On tap at Falling Rock in Denver, CO.

The beer pours a yellowish-copper and is very murky looking. It has a unique aroma of citrusy pine and almost a hint of grass. It tasted quite similar to PtE but was more bitter (not in a good, hoppier way, either). It was kind of a bland PtE. I personally was turned of visually by the murkiness of it. Don't get me wrong, it tasted good, but it was nothing in comparison to some of the other RR beers.

I would recommend it, but don't search for it. If you come open it, go for it.

Drunk at Monk's Cafe in Philadelphia, PA.

I tasted the Blind Pig side-by-side with Port Brewing's Wipe Out.

The BP was great, needed more malt backbone IMO, but wow. The PWO was maltier but not as citrusy, more bitterness, though. I preferred the PWO, my g/f the PB. The PWO was really, really süffig, for the pint glass was empty within minutes though I was trying to appreciate its complexity.

On tap into a pint glass.

A-My pour had a thin, white head of less than one finger. The head, while thin, manages to hang around for a while and left nice lacing on the glass. The brew was a touch cloudy and orange-hued golden in color.

S-The smell is a nice, sharp mixture of spicy citrus flavors and oily, earthy, herbal hop notes. The scent is impressively hoppy and strong for a 6.1% brew, but it retains a nice pale malt base and never devolves into overwhelming bitterness.

T-The taste, like the smell, is impressively strong. The sharp, mildly chalky notes continue, as does the oily dankness and spicy citrus. Nice balance from the malts, which are pale and just a touch doughy.

M-The feel is medium body with a decent bit of carbonation. I felt a little of the hop oiliness on the palate. Finish is drying.

O-This is a great IPA. It is powerful in smell and flavor, especially for 6.1%, and it has a sharpness, rather than out-and-out bitterness, that I really enjoy. The balance is there and the flavors are well-layered and decently complex.

10oz. pour into a Duvel Tulip at Hawthorne's Cafe in Philadelphia.

A: Translucent amber body with no tones. Thick, white, frothy head that lingers and produces tons of spotty lacing.

S: A perfectly build, slightly citrusy IPA.

T: Grapefruit dryness jumps out heavily as undertones of Lemon back it up.

M: A slight dryness and relaxing level of carbonation in the forefront with nothing overdone and an easy tingle from hop resins.

OVERALL: Blind Pig is a beautiful IPA. It's easy on the stomach, has great head, and is very juicy, but not overbearing. This is what IPA's were like before the "Hop Bomb" era. Thin, balanced, and drinkable with a perfect amount of citrus spiceness and all of the tonal flavors you'd expect from a West Coast IPA and the IPA style in general. Very 2007-2010.

Poured a seethru auburn-tinted brown with two-finger white head that died quick with lace patches and had a very hoppy nose; pine and citric hops along with grapefruit and touches of breadiness and caramel malt. Light to medium bodied and easy going down the hatch, the hops are dominant and have a great earthy, citrusy and grapefruit taste along with minimal fruit sweetness. Beer is balanced by sweet and dry malty backbones, and finishes not bitter but dry and crisp and makes you want to have another drink. Skirts the edge between overly hoppy/DIPA and just a right balance for an IPA between hops and malts and is an excellent brew.

Less piney than pliney more tropical nice summery yellow color; very clear. ample long lasting head. Great pub beer on draft.
Good balance of hops and malt; hop dominated blend of Chinook, Cascade, Amarillo,Simcoe, and Centennial hops. not overpowering easy to drink
Lighter style than pliney...both excellent in there own ways. pliney more suitable sipper
Good spring beer. well hidden alcohol. not filling nice lingering aftertaste
Very impressed by how good all of the beers were; no losers. the sours were the big surprise; consecration truly amazing

A- Poured a dark golden-amber color with a 1-plus finger head, fluffy white leaving nice lacing.

S- Citrusy, earthy, woody.

T-Malt forword ahead of some citrus and piney hops.

M-Very solid body and feel. Nice carbonation, abv is well concealed. The malts carry the body and flavor of the brew, but it's hoppy enough, lingers.

O- Lots of hops, malts and balance in a drinkable big IPA.

A: Bright orange with a lazy eggshell colored head. Slides off the glass.

N: Loads of hoppy goodness. Grapefruit, pineapple, spruce. Very tropical. Some light sweetness. It's tempered and inviting.

M: Very dry. Does a number on the palate.

Pours a clear straw yellow/orange with a two finger head. Smells of floral piney hops with a touch of sweetness. Taste is well balanced and hits upfront with the bite of the sweet piney hops and a touch of citrus lemon. There's a spice quality of something like lemon-grass that adds a small bite to the flavour. A touch of the nutty malt comes through on the end although incredibly covered by the hop notes. Mouthfeel is pretty stellar with its upfront bite and clean chewy character that keeps it drinkable.

Overall Blind Pig is a fantastic example of a west coast ipa. It may be a bit hard to find but it's worth the trouble.

not sure why this one is so hyped up. was dying to try it, finally did, and was rather unimpressed as far as russian river goes. to me, pliny is just such a better beer, more hops, better feel, more alive. this one pales in comparison in almost every respect. same color but maybe a little less sediment and a little less carbonation than the pliny. less resinous nose, although the hops appear to be equally fresh and pungent. citrus notes and pine notes in equal proportion, although this isnt oily at all. bitter finish after a balanced american style pale ale. lighter biscuity malt doesnt overshadow the hops, but the flavors just arent as forward and assertive as the pliny. i know its a different beer entirely, and i shouldnt compare like this, but i couldnt help thinking the whole pint that this was the inferior little brother. good feel, crisp finish, plenty bitter, drinkable as hell, but just not a standout to me. especially since we all know what russian river is capable of. good ipa, not memorable for me. ill try ti again in the future though.

On tap at Falling Rock. Written from notes 12/27.

A - rich amber, tons of lacing, head that keeps hanging around. A really inviting look.

S - cinnamon, lemon zest, earthy - really brings out that hop and forest element, but not overpowering. Swims up into your nostrils as you drink it.

T - tastes of the scent, in a very pure way. Pine, citrus, hint of spice and chili. Just enough bitterness to remind you its an ale. Top notch.

M - leaves a tremendous aftertaste. Great carbonation and drinkability.

O - close to perfect.

A: Poured a beautiful crystal clear golden orange. Has a nice one finger frothy white head. Leaves a beautiful lattice lacing.

S: Smells similar to Pliny. Makes you just want to dive in and bathe in it. Smells of citrus and pine. Lots of hop resin.

M: It has a very nice creaminess with an excellent crisp finish. Mild carbonation.

This pours an amber tan color with tremendous white foam. The aroma is full on orange and orange marmalade. So fresh and vibrant. Eminently pleasing flavor. Well this was a real nice treat. I was out to dinner and saw this one the draft list. I made sure I ordered as many as I could handle in one sitting. The beer poured out as a nice golden color with a brilliant white head on top. The lacing is nice a sticky on this one. The smell of the beer is piney and full of citrusy hop aromas. It smells so refreshing. The taste of the beer is also very nice, hopped up like crazy with a clean malt backbone. The mouthfeel is very sharp and crisp with a strong carbonation to it. Overall this beer was very good, I'm glad I finally finished the trio from Russian River. All were excellent.
