Consumed on 2/20 bottled on 2/20 (a rare occurance for me)

A- amber appearance with a thin white head.

S- floral hop aromas, grapefruit, pineapple, banana.

T- grapefruit, apple, pineapple, guava, very subtle malt profile.

M- very slippery mouthfeel with a nice bitterness and mild carbonation.

O- I love this beer. I rarely buy it since its the same price as PtE at my work. But whenever it is fresher that PtE I'll buy it. It has less alcohol than Pliny and that makes it a little more of sessionable beer.

Huge thanks to Dan3279 for yet another awesome trade.

Poured from a 22 oz. capped bottle (Bottled On 121911) into a pint glass.

A strong pour yields a 1 1/2 finger cream-colored head that fades after a couple minutes to a thin, even dusting and thick, seafoam-like ring. The body is a clear golden amber with an interesting mix of both tiny and fat carbonation bubbles charging from the deepest depths of the glass to reinforce the diminishing head. Some decent but spotty lacing can be seen clinging sporadically to the sides of the glass.

Clean and balanced, the nose is a delicious mix of both citrus hops and bready malt. While the aroma of this beer isn't exactly a nostril-blaster, it does carry excellent notes of grapefruit, orange peel, and pineapple with notes of biscuits and bread crumbs in the background.

Each sip offers initial flavors of grapefruit, mango, mandarin oranges, and white bread crust. As the beer is swallowed, a pine hops flavor rushes into the picture, overwhelming all the previous flavors. As this fades, the citrus hops and bready malt flavors reemerge with a good grapefruit tang. As these flavors also taper off, a slight piny bitterness lingers as an aftertaste.

This is a beer that would be perfect on a warm spring afternoon, or a hot summer day, or a cool fall evening, or a cold winter night. It really would be perfect for nearly any occasion. The body is smooth and mellow, like a filtered fruit juice. The carbonation is just a bit fizzy but is definitely helpful.

A: golden honey color, with a bright white head that lingers.

S: piney hops with a pleasant sweetness

T: The bitterness is very present, and the hops are the star of the show.

M: Highly carbonated, Blind Pig is bubbly, with a surprising dry finish.

O: While I cannot complain about this, I think it had a lot to live up to, in comparison to Pliny. At the end of the day, I'm glad that I tried it, and enjoyed it, but didn't care for the very dry finish

First off I wanted to thank my buddy Ed for getting me this bottle in a recent trade. The bottle is dated 12/19/11, I made sure to drink this one today when I received it.

I poured the 500ml bottle into a pint glass to find a great golden body with a slight haze and a great inch and a half head that left a nice amount of lacing around the glass.

The aroma was good, it instantly made me think of Pliny. It is on the mellow side with nice grapefruit hints.

The taste was excellent and balanced, nothing is overpowering here. Solid hop / malt balance, with hints of sweetness in the middle with a great dry, bitter lingering aftertaste.

The mouthfeel was good, just the right amount of carbonation for an IPA. Clean, crisp and refreshing, a light to medium body that is really perfect. This one was easy to drink and enjoy. I could easily drink this one year round!

Another fantastic offering from Russian River. I am lucky to have a few friends on the west coast who can help me get this one but I wish it was readily available here in Ohio.

Huge Thanks to Duff for giving me a bottle of this beer!

Appearance: Straw yellow with a golden glow to the body of this beer. Thick and creamy white head that goes over 3 fingers of head.

Smell: Pine, mango, pineapple, oranges, grapefruit and some grassiness. Smell really nice! mild note of buttermilk biscuits from the malts. RR knows how to brew a great smelling hoppy beer!

Taste: moderate bitterness. Pine upfront. Grapefruit, mangos, and oranges. Finishes is piney with a mild bitterness. Malts are well balanced, but still let the hop profile be the star of the beer.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer with moderately high carbonation. The beer is crisp, clean, and refreshing. Carbonation is lively and is prickly.

Overall: I did enjoy this beer just a little bit more than Pliney. Even though Pliney is a bigger beer I think that the Blind Pig has the edge because its a smaller and more drinkable beer that has as big of a hop profile going on. Rissian River makes great hoppy beers thats just the straight story.

Nice looking clear golden brew with a large head. Steady carbonation and nice lacing as you drink. Abundant citrusy grapefruit aroma. Sweet hops taste fades to a strong bitter finish.

Very similar to Pliny - more bitter on the finish and not quite as balanced, but still a delicious brew.

reviewed from notes. sampled 2.11.12. batch was brewed 1.31.12. poured from bottle into Stone IPA stemware.

A - perfectly clear, rich, golden hue; one finger off-white head retains well with sticky lacing left on glass

S - citrusy hops with some green, grassy elements; light floral notes of gardenia toward end; faint spice/pepper

T - bright, fresh hop bill as to be expected from a two week old ipa; some tropical and citrus flavors followed by some mild pine resin; pleasantly crisp, bittering finish

M - thin but not watery; fine, light, prickly carbonation; mild, short, dry aftertaste

O - really nice! and super fresh; highly drinkable while avoiding serious palate fatigue; classic ipa; a must-try and i will be finding this one again!

App: White, foamy head. Bright/light copper, very clear except yeast. Minimal retention and lacing.

Nose: Biscuits, citrus, big profile, a bit of vanilla and banana nut bread. Sweet nose with a hint of pear at the end.

Taste: Perfect carbonation. Slightly syrupy finish, dry in the middle, pineapples and mangoes, not much else.

Notes: Not as good as it was when brewed in Temecula.

Bottle poured into a Pint glass.

A - beautiful clear golden color with a nice frothy 1 or 2 finger head.

S - fresh, pine, citrus. All there and crisp.

T - taste follows the smell but not as strong. The fresh and citrus comes in nicely.

M - nice carbonation and light body. Feels very nice on the palate.

O - it's a really good IPA. I only wish I'd had it before the Plinys, because I can taste the great similarities just not as strong. Definitely one of the best IPAs I've had.

Thanks Deuane for sharing this one.

A - Pours with a golden amber body that has carbonation bubbles running through it...the head is two fingers tall and white in color...it recedes to a full cap and leaves decent lacing

S - All hops...mainly sweet and juicy citrus (grapefruit, orange, lemon) but there is some piney notes coming through

T - The hops dominate the flavor profile as well...which is not a bad thing...they start off with a sweeter side and the citrus hops shine more...there is a nice caramel malt backbone in the middle which adds body and a little bit of flavor...the piney hops come in at the finish and leave a crisp bitterness

M - Medium bodied...crisp, bitter, dry

O - I finally got to try a Russian River IPA...this one was about a month old when we consumed it...it's all about the hops...nice citrus flavors with a dry, bitter finish

Had on tap at Apex in Portland, OR on 2/20/12.

Appearance: Poured into a pint glass and shows a yellow-gold color with a one finger head that receded quickly. Looks like a lot of carbonation.

Smell: Reminds me of a more subdued Elder with citrus and pine notes.

Taste: Soft citrus and pine flavors typical of a West Coast IPA on the front end. Bready and sweet malt flavors balance it out quickly. Flavor is very subtle compared to other RR beers.

Mouthfeel: Easy to drink and smooth. Above average carbonation in this one.

Overall: A good, straightforward IPA. A more simple and less complex IPA from RR.
