look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5

A: Pours a golden, copper with a thin layer of bubbly foam atop. Carbonation levels look pretty tame. There's a bit of lacing as you drink, but overall it looks to be a bit thin.

S: Hops dominate the aroma, but it isn't particularly aromatic. Mostly floral with tropical fruits, banana and some pine. Light biscuity malts linger in the background with a bit of alcohol.

T: Quite similar to the smell on the palate. Pretty decent mix of toasted biscuit and citrus hops up front. Lots of grapefruit. Finishes crisp and dry with a bitter, grapefruit on the tongue.

M: Carbonation is a bit more lively on the tongue than the appearance let on, but this one is still on the lighter side of medium bodied. There is a bit of chewiness in there, but I could use a bit more body. The thinness does add to its drinkability, however.

O: Overall this is a solid IPA with a decent amount of flavor that is quite sessionable, however it pails in comparison to some of its Russian River brethren. I'd seek this out again if I'm in the mood for a lighter IPA as it would make a great fridge beer and a superb starter IPA for those who are a bit more timid with their hop tolerance. Cheers!

EDIT: having now had this several times, including on tap, I think my first bottle may have been a bit old. Aroma and taste improved noticeably in later tastings, especially on tap. Still not as complex or flavorful as Pliny the Elder, but I think it surpasses it in terms of something I'd like to drink often.
