On tap at the brewery. I expected a lot. It let me down.

Hazy milk pale. Smells like a lager. Tastes like a lager. It's an over sweet corn syrupy lager substitute.

T: this is a horrible corn lager akin to BMC and worthy of their scorn. No good.

M: Sickly sweet and thin. Ugh.

O: the only Russian River beer I've ever hated. This is absolutely no good. Zero points. (372 characters)

Big thanks goes out to mikesgroove for sharing this one with me! Served from growler into a Victory 'Taste the Victory' shaker. Poured a pale golden yellow with a minimal white head. There was no lacing evident throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, wheat, and subtle spices. The flavor was of sweet malt, wheat, grain, and subtle spices. It had a light feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew. Nothing on this brew really stood out to me. You could tell what style they were going for and they hit it pretty well, but everything was just a little too muted for my liking. I could see drinking this while sitting out by a pool all day, but if given it the option, it would not be my first choice if other options were available. Glad I got to try something different from the usual Russian River lineup but doubt I would have this one again. (896 characters)

golden pour with loads of carbonation and a little head of white that seems to stick on top for just the slighest bit of time. aroma is light biscuit, hints of grain, touches of light banana an spice. taste is about the same but seems to be just a touch off for me. not the way it is supposed to work for sure. light finish leaves almost no aftertaste and it is over before it began. (383 characters)

A - Served a hazy golden-yellow color with a finger of frothy white head atop and lots of visible carbonation. The head faded down slowly leaving behind some nice lacing in the process.

S - Aroma was a mix of yeast with some banana character, some grains, and some lemon. There was also some light hops and spices in the background.

T - Starts off with some good yeast flavor and some slightly tart lemon. Through the middle, the tartness fades and some grain flavor replaces it with some hops and light spices coming through. The finish is a mix of yeast and grain flavors that linger nicely.

M - Medium-light bodied with moderate-plus lively carbonation. Feels super smooth and crisp without being watery or thin.

D - Very drinkable. The flavors blend really nicely here and are a bit stronger than many pilsners. However, the beer still retains the great tradition mouthfeel and crispness of a good pilsner. (914 characters)

On-tap at russian river.

This was a mighty proud looking pills with slow motion carb coming up throughout the slightly hazed golden body of the beer and 1 finger head that settled at the top of the glass. Smell and taste were both just a great balance of pilsener malts and hops. All the flavors and smells were familiar, but it was all just put together so well, with it being a little bit on the hoppy side of a pilsener which I enjoy. Body was fuller than most pils and rightfully so. A great way to start a drinking session at RR, and a fantastic precursor to any of their IPAs. (583 characters)

On Tap at Russian River.

A: Poured a hazy straw color. Nice inch thick head. Little retention or lacing.

S: Good amount of citrus on the nose. Some spice though i can't really tell which spices. Some yeasty notes on the end like most pilsners.

T: Lighter on the hops than the nose would have you believe. Still a nice spice note. Yeasty and Biscuity.

M: Very light and crisp. A lot of carbonation.

O: not my favorite Pilsner, but a solid option. Have no problem ordering it again. (485 characters)

A - Moderate to clear pale golden color with a decent amount of foamy white colored head.

S - Herbs and spices up front with a nice malt aroma all around. Quite pleasant for a pilsner.

T - Light amount of grain and spices flavors. It's a lot more complex than the pilsners I am used to. Bits of citrus and toasted herbs present in the flavor as well.

M - Medium bodied. Average to low carbonation that brings out the flavors a little more.

O - A fantastic drinkable lager. Unique flavors that go down smoothly. (515 characters)

Drank 8/20/11. Split w/ bbb099.

A: Pours a nice straw color with a thick off-white head. Pretty solid and intriguing.

S: Definitely a solid pilsner, but a pretty good hit of hops underneath.

T: Interesting. Strong earthy notes in the finish with some herbal malty notes.

M: A little heavier body than I was expecting, which is a good thing for me, but it feels a bit off.

O: Very beery, for lack of a better adjective. I'm thoroughly enjoying it! (456 characters)

At the source. Served in a pint glass. A dull pale mildly hazy straw yellow, minor head, ok lacing.

Aroma is dominated by the hops, pine and citrus, but overall underwhelming in defining what to expect on the tongue.

Taste too is dominated by the hops. No butter. Lightly flavored, mildly sweet pale malts up front, simple. Hop bitters begin mid way and ride the length of the aftertaste. Light bodied mouthfeel.

Nice brew for a hot summer day as it fits the bill for being refreshing but its simplicity does not warrant drinking past dinner.
cheers

Growler filled from the brewery last night. Poured into SA perfect pint glass.

A: Pours a surprisingly cloudy pale chalky yellow color with a huge eggshell white head that slowly faded into a thick film that left tons of spotty lacing down the glass.
S: This is one wonderfully earthy smelling beer! I pick up scents of earthy spices, herbal earthy hops, and a sweet blast of lemon and citrus. It’s light overall and a bit minerally or chalky smelling as well.
T: Follows the nose with herbal, earthy and citrusy flavors followed by notes of clean pale malt and cracked dry grains. Flavors are light, and the finish is minerally and ‘green’ tasting.
M: Medium bodied with fine carbonation that creates a chewy mouthfeel. The finish is drying and refreshing but it could be a little bit ‘cleaner’.
O: Other than being pretty darn cloudy this was a solid pilsner that I will have no problem finishing a growler of. It could be a bit better, but I would definitely drink this again. Cheers! (1,003 characters)

At the brewery during RBSG09. Hazy yellow with a lasting head. Super fresh citrus, spicy, and lightly grassy hop aroma. Clean pale malt flavors with lots of green, grassy, citric, spicy hop flavors and a dry, bitter finish. Light bodied with medium carbonation. Not a classic Bohemian hop profile, but very nice and hoppy stuff. (328 characters)

On tap at Russian River in August 2009.

A: Pours a dark straw color with a nice white head and good lacing as it goes down. Plenty of carbonation bubbles visible through the transparent brew.

S: Lots of Noble hops accompany a solid pilsner malt base.

T: The hops dominate atop a slightly-sweet and grainy malt base.

M: A little heavier than most pilsners, while still maintaining a nice, smooth mouthfeel with the right amount of carbonation.

D: Quite drinkable and very sessionable. This one and the Aud Blonde were nice surprises at RR--some very solid sessionable beers from what a great brewery. (604 characters)

Had this on-tap at the RR pub. Not my favorite Russian River beer, nor my favorite Pilsner by a long shot. Also called Sound Czech on the RR board. Pours golden, very slightly hazy with a thin head and steady bubbling from the bottom of the glass to the head. Smells mainly of lager yeast, with some nuttiness and light hoppinesss thrown in. Tastes very grainy with a fair amount of floral bitterness, but a little one dimensional. Grainy and a bit chewy in the mouth. Not the most subtle pilsner, a little off balance to me. (525 characters)

On tap at Russian River 7/25/09. This beer should not be marked as retired. Served in a pilsner glass. Comes in at 5.7% and 33 IBUs. Described as a "Sound Czech Pilsner".

A-Pours a hazy yellow-brown. A lot darker than most pilsners. Has a one finger white head with some decent retention. Tons of bubbles can be seen rising from the bottom throught drinking this one.

S-Smells like a fresh pilsner should. Lots of noble hops and a little bit of grain is also noticeable.

T-A very refreshing pilsner. The noble hops are definitely apparent throughout, but smell stronger on the nose. It does not taste very grainy and has some nice lemon zing in the middle and on the finish.

M-Medium bodied and has that great smooth RR mouthfeel. Nice crisp carbonation from all of the active bubbles.

D-A good thirst quencher and one of the most sessionable beers that I have tried from RR.

This has been one their beers that has eluded me for years. Glad I got to try it. Definitely good when you want to try something different from them. It is a great lawnmower beer. (1,061 characters)

RBSG09 on tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy light dirty gold color with a wet filmy white head. Scent of oranges and lemons with some interesting spicy hops. Cereal grain flavor with orange peels, and lemon meringue. Almost tastes ale-like. Lightly sweet with a dry finish. (272 characters)

Sampled on January 23rd, 2008.

Clear gold colored beer with not much head formation.

Scent is mild and fairly light. Light Nobel hop aroma and faint C type hop aroma. I would have expected more scent for a beer of this type.

Taste starts out dry and fairly bitter with a clean finish. This tastes a lot like Reality Czeck. Malt is a flavor that is mostly hidden here by the hops, this is all about the Nobel hop bite.

Good mouthfeel.

OK drinkability here but not up to German beer quality. An OK lawnmower beer but not worth shouting about. (545 characters)

1/30/08- Had on tap at Russian River Brewery in Santa Rosa, CA.

Presentation- Via the tap into taster glasses.

Appearance- Pale golden hued color with a 3/4 inch sparking clean white head. Nice chunk lacing left in the glass.

Smell- Large (Huge-Large), noble hop nose with notes of hay and grass. A bit of grain in the nose as well.

Taste- Hops aren't as bitter as thought with the nose. Kinda of laid back. Smooth drinking with somewhat fresh dried grassy flavors.

Mouthfeel- A touch watery and thin. Smooth, but not in the creamy way. Carbonation seemed a tad seltzery.

Drinkability- A decent czech pils, but plenty better ones out there. Nice try, but I'll stick with the other beers here. (698 characters)

Appearance - Clear and golden with a bit of white froth on top.

Smell - Pretty subtle aroma. Spicy hops mixed with grainy sweetness. The freshly cut grass aroma that I find common in pilseners is very subdued here.

Taste - Bready and sweet at first, followed by flavors of citrus and raw grain. The grainy malt backbone becomes pretty pervasive after a while. Quite a bit of hoppy spiciness appears in the finish, drying the palate. Not the cleanest pils I've had, but not bad. (479 characters)

On tap at Russian River Brewing.

The beer poured a clear straw yellow with a minimal white head.

The aroma of the beer was bursting with noble hops and that clean Czech yeast.

The flavor of the beer was predominantly hoppy with a light biscuity malt backbone. The flavor was very clean and well balanced for a Czech pils. No fruitniess.

The carbonation was just right and the mouthfeel was light.

This beer was very drinkable and an excellent example of a Czech pils. It rivals any that I've had from the Czech Republic.

The fact that Vinnie Cilurzo was able to whip out something like this in such contrast to his other beers is a testament to his mastery of the brewing craft. (696 characters)
