750ml bottle at 54 degrees, Christmas eve 2008.
Pours clear, sparkling copper with a quarter inch head of pure white.
An unrelenting ascent of minute orbs of carbonation keeps a solid skim coat afloat on the surface.
Aromatics lead off with sour grapes, barnyard funk, wine-like vineousity, grapefruit and lemon pith, and musty pineapple skins.
Dusty cloves, oily boards, peach pits, and wet hay follow through. Sweaty horseblanket, leather-wrapped citrus, and catty cheeserind round out the nose.
Medium bodied, with a crispish, puckering mouthfeel. Very dry and tart.
Bright acid, soured fruits, oaky tannins, and citrus oils start the palate. Hints of grapefruit, apple, grape, and pineapple skins step forward, as well as a very mild lactic component and a peppery warmth. A decent amount of malt is present and is substantial enough to keep this one out of the Geuze realm.
Finishes quite tart with lingering clean acid, tannic dryness, and grapefruit pith.
Outstanding. Bright with plenty of funk and acid, with minimal lactic character.
Big ups to RB'r 5000 for the way-back hookup!
