A: Pours a dark amber, purplish ruby red color; reminiscent of a wine. Nice one finger slightly off-white head, which retains for several seconds or so.

S: Aromas are revealing a vinous, cabernet, wine ratio which is nicely supplemented by funky notes of figs, oak, cherry, plums, brown sugar, lemon, dark fruits and of course accompanied by sourness. The notes/intricacies on this guy are fantastic

T: Sour, tart, and funk are quite prevailing and pleasing. In keeping with the smell, the taste is that of a vinous, wine feel. Notes are that of grapes, raisins, lemon, cherry, slight vinegar, and a woody oak earthiness feel; very similar to the smell

M: Medium to Full body, medium carbonation, lots of sour funk, the presence of wine, and just an overall complex beer

O: Complex and incredible; being extremely well balanced and very smooth make this out to be a superbly refreshing beverage

Poured from Bottle into tulip glass.

Appearance: Dark amber color, beautiful carbonation streams, and yeast floating around. A firm and smooth one finger head until the bottom of glass. Lovely foam streamers left around the glass.

Aroma: More malty than I expected. At first reminded me of a caramel heavy barley wine. Strong sour scent next with strong lemon tones. Dark fruit smell from raisins and prunes.

Taste: Lemon warhead candy, red wine, vanilla from oaky wood. Touch of caramel malt in the back ground. This is probably the best sour I have ever had.

Mouthfeel: Strong sour cringe, with smooth flow. Carbonation is mild and smooth, and a bit astringent in the back. 10% ABV is noticed in the swallow with minor burn

Overall: FANTASTIC! Highly recommend to anyone who can get their hands on it.

On tap at the source – 06/16/2014
Full Belgian Tulip

A: Deep Merlot color body with some dark brown and purplish tones throughout. Fairly opaque and hazed look to it with a thin layer of khaki cream that quickly settles out to a crown. Light swaths and dots of lace are left behind.

S: Grapey and vinous with a suggestion of red wine vinegar underneath. Slightly sweet with some earthy musk coming through. Something mineral there and iron like. Seriously smells like a grape sour candy though. It is quite the delight.

T: The flavors are boldly vinous with Bordeaux grape and some green oaky notes that meld into a refreshingly tart pucker. I get some toned down vinegar qualities and a bit of those earthy mineral deposits in the back. There is a moderate level of bitterness here that works well with the woodsy tannins to dry the beer out in the finish and at 10% ABV this is incredibly well balanced with the alcohol completely disguised. A feat in itself really. Overall just super delicious.

M: Moderately full in body with a nice tartness that puckers the palate. There is a touch of tannic astringency to help dry the finish. Slightly watery overall.

D: An Incredible American Wild. Very bold in flavors with a great red wine influence. Yet incredibly well balanced and easy to drink. Nice and tart without much funkiness to it. I actually prefer Consecration over the Supplication.
