Pour is a dark brown, close to amber hue with off-white colored head that quickly settles to a ring. Loud fizz, not much lacing going on.

Aroma definitely is cranberry and red wine foward with hints of hay and belgian-like yeast. Oak and wood is very dominate in the background, and even more dominate as it warms.

First thing I noticed with the taste is this pop of cherry, mixed with sour apple. Hints of red wine and sweet tart. Oak is definitely noticeable in the back end, giving it this nice earthy yeast profile.

Mouthfeel is fizzy and carbonated like most sours. Thin bodied, and 10% abv definitely not detectable. Overall more tart than sour. Wouldn't consider this beer as complex as supplication(only other RR sour I've tried), but possibly more balanced. Easy drinker, highly suggested.

A: Deep clear mahogany, 2 finger off-white head, decent retention.
AR: Dark fruit, plum, currant, red wine, oak.
T: Follows nose, sweet fruit on the palate, oak and red wine on the finish, ABV completely hidden.
M: Medium light body, medium carbonation, dry w/ a slightly sticky finish.

My favorite RR sour from the bottle. Some of the other 12.7oz bottled sours are overly oaky and tannic. This one is beautifully balanced.

This review is going off of memory from awhile back: it was a great beer. It was like drinking a jelly filled donut taste-wise. I haven't been able to find it in stock anywhere ever since the one time, but I keep an eye out for it.

2014 Vintage poured into a tulip. Red wine, some vinegar, maybe a bit of dark fruit, moderate tartness. A solid, unique offering but was expecting more.

Pours rich red/purple, low carbonation and a short head. Smells of wine, fruit and funk. Taste is wine-centered but with dark fruit and funk. Dry, and fades even more dry. This is actually quite an approachable sour despite having so much in common with a cabernet. Really cool and different experience.

Pours a black cherry Amber color. Aroma is tart with dark fruit with some boozy wine notes. Flavor is tart and wine up front, you get some oak and dark fruit after. Leaves a little warmth in the mouth on the finish. Has a soft smooth feel and overall really delicious.

Look:small bubbles around rim, no head, cola/dark red wine in color.
Smell: a little sour pronounced wine no noticeable fruit.
Taste: a little alcohol burn, raisin, tobacco.
Feel: nice carbonation.
Overall: very nice barrel aged sour.

Man RR nails it every time. By now the beer nerds are bored with these same old wine BA sours from northern CA but seriously they're kinda perfect. Funky, fruity, rich flavors and aromas. Vinous and oaky. Would age well. Good now. Go get some.

Poured at backcountry pizza. Smells like straight gummy worms. Weird for the smell of a beer. Delicious taste. Definitely taste the Cab in there. But this is a super acidic beer. It's gives me a heart burn every time I try it and the carbonation is a little to high. Like drinking a soda. I dunno, RR, I think the hype is undeserved.

A very dark brown with some dark red edge to it. Small head, off white, almost tan like, 1/4". Aroma hits those currant, cranberry, red wine, cabernet grape, dark cherry and oak forest notes.

Taste, wow, this is a big sour, almost bitter, astringent tannin like effort. Probably the most challenging of all their wild ales, even though the alcohol is still amazingly well hidden. Its a pricey beer that keeps going up, but as far as the darker more Belgian inspired wild ales over here, it is still one of the best.

Coppery dark brown with a minuscule ring of foam. Smells like new Sharpie. Unmistakably like Sharpie marker. Maybe "musty" if I have to use beer lingo? I like Sharpie smell. Tastes like tart red wine, bitter bakers chocolate, nutmeg and a fuzzy back end.

310ml bottle. 9/17/15 bottle date. Appearance: Deep brown, clear, with a ruby red hue. Fizzy carbonation on the pour, with an off white head that dissipated quickly. Aroma: Vinous sour cherry upfront, slight oak and berry character. Lactic acid noticeable. Taste: Rich malt sweetness, loads of dark fruit character, some light toasted oak, and a Cabernet note shows up on the swallow. Lactic sourness strong throughout, but builds to sharp bite at the finish. Mouthfeel: Medium body with a high carbonation. Very little evidence of the 10% ABV. Finish: Lingering cherry and lactic tartness Overall: An outstanding sour brown. Loads of dark fruit flavor highlighted by cherry, with a Cabernet vinous character throughout. Amazing complexity for a sour

Poured gently at 48°F from a 375ml bottle (bottled on 13Mar15) into a tulip. Consumed on 18Feb16.
LOOK: Pours with a half fingers worth of white foam that shrivels into a partial line within 25 seconds. Dark red in color with a moderate amount of cloudiness. Rising bubbles are small in size and moderate in quantity. Lacing is thin and almost non-existent.
SMELL: Very strong aromas of sour green apple entangle with strong aromas of tobacco and spicy red wine, mild hay, oak, and earthy yeast aromas, and subtle tart/sweet currant aromas.
TASTE: Very strong sour green apple and strong spicy red wine flavors first bombard the palate. This is definitely not a beer for those who are beginning their trek into sours. Strong tobacco and mild hay flavors immediately follow the initial taste. Mild oak, earthy yeast, and tart/sweet currant flavors are the last to make their debut as all previous flavors persist.
FEEL: Full-bodied and highly carbonated. Goes down rough due to the carbonation levels. Finishes with a strong dryness. A mild alcoholic warmth can be felt as it goes down the throat.
NOTE: As beer warms, the red wine flavors becomes stronger. I'm not big on red wines, but this was brilliant. Even though the wine shined through, it played very well with the other flavors.

Poured a dark reddish brown into my Russian River "tion" glass. The nose is totally from the wine barrel aging. Lots of great cabernet overtones. The taste is slightly sour but there is this over lying sweetness from the Cabernet barrels that over come the sour taste. The mouthfeel is smooth perhaps a little over carbonated for my palate. In all a great after dinner sipping beer.

No fooling around here. Super depth of flavor from dark dried fruits to tart fruits, to all the wine oak barrel characteristics. Mix in a little funkiness from the yeast and we have a winner.

L: Pours a shimmering burgundy with an off white head that barely ever exists and struggles to keep its head above the surface. From above the glass Consecration is plum or even cola in nature. From below it appears to flit between gold and copper. Eye level with Consecration leaves a multihued elixir that starts with a beautiful glassy brown that turns to red with a sliver of fiery orange gleaming at the bottom of the bowl. This might be the most beautiful beer I've ever seen.

S: Ripe cherries and overly ripe currants of the mushy sticky variety. Red wine and mellow wood. A bit of yeast.

T: Sweet and sour cherry mash dribbling with a smidgen of funk and a whole lot of sour punch. The wine and currants really round the sourness into a fruity dryness. Holy heavens above I could drink this every day.

F: Nice carbonation, gives Consecration a lively almost cream mouth feel to start. The longer it sits in your glass the more subdued and slick it becomes.

O: This is a near perfect creation by Russian River. If I could only drink one sour or wine for the rest of my life, this would be it.

L: Dark burgundy color, with a small fora my white head a very beautiful beer when the light hits it.

S: Dark fruits, cherry, some red wine characteristics and a nice nose of tartness.

T: Oak, dark fruits, red wine characteristics and a very nice tart sourness. Lots going on and this is quite complex.

F: Lighter body and highly carbonated, the high alcohol is well hidden, very easy drinking.

Cabernet characters and smells, tartness for sure.

Tasted the sour cherries along with the cabernet, tart up front. Almost like drinking a wine instead of a beer.

Complex tastes, but a well brewed beer!

Batch 1 bottle at a share. Pours burgundy from the bottle. You get oak, red wine and tartness. The body is amazing with a complex play of woody oak, tart currants and some cherry flavor, dry, tart red wine. Finishes lightly dry making you wan to drink more and more. We had a later batch as well (11/22/13) that had much stronger wine flavors to it. Fantastic beer with age on it.

Too much Cabernet. Barrel character DEF comes out strong. Maybe time will do justice. But, no heat:l Very cab forward sour worthy of the claim. not my kind of sour though. Regardless, def worth the try. Cheers!

Had on-tap at the Pour House in Exton, PA. Poured into a snifter.

L: Pours a deep mahogany color. Thin off-white head with nice lacing.

S: Oak and tartness... citrus... vanilla. Red wine.

T/F: Tart up front, but not a true lip pucker.... more of a sour cherry sensation. Complex and oaky... hints of vanilla and red wine. Gives way to an almost caramel sweetness at the finish and in the aftertaste. Not sure what this beer is but I don't dislike it. In fact... I just may love it. Carbonated and intriguing.

O: What an interesting beer, and I like that in addition to making it sour and exploring the yeast/bacteria mix they also threw in some great flavors and the sweet finish really took me back. It's from Russian River so you know it's going to be well made. Definitely one to be sipped and experienced.

Another awesome Russian river wild ale. Complex tasting ale with a mix of clean tasting, crisp, tart and a light fruity sweetness. Glad i tried this beer. Would look out for in the future.

Pours a slightly cabonated deep reddish brown. Nice oak wine aroma. Taste is nice and tart, but smooth and sweet at the same time. Can really pick up on the oak.

This beer has a champagne like quality to it. Very effervescent. Black currants come through with a deep tart berry character. Nice sour, but once is enough for me.
