Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Toronado 25th Anniversary Ale started out as six individual brews, each with their own personality, and all incorporating Brettanomyces and or micro-organisms. Once the barrel aging was complete, Russian River’s Vinnie Cilurzo and Toronado’s David Keene got together to create the final blend. To create its fine carbonation, we re fermented the Toronado 25th Anniversary Ale in this bottle. Spent yeast cells from a thin layer of sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Pour slowly, allowing the natural yeast sediment to remain in the bottle.

Blend:
4% Sonambic (barrel aged for 15 months)
16% Blonde Ale (barrel aged for 8 months)
36% Strong Pale Ale (barrel aged 12 months)
28% Ale Aged with Currants (barrel aged for 8 months)
12% Strong Dark Ale (barrel aged for 12 months)
4% Baltic Porter (barrel aged for 10 months)

Poured into a tulip glass from a 750ml bottle.
"Ale Aged in Oak Barrels with Currants Added"

Poured in celebration of my 1100th review and me obtaining my Professional Engineering license.

Pours a nice deep deep copper color with some garnet and ruby hues. There is some very slight haze to the brew and some active bubbles can be seen rushing from the bottom of the glass. There is a nice half inch head that forms that is of medium density. The head is off white and a nice thin mat sticks around for a while leaving some slight lacing.

Aroma is as always extremely complex. Musty notes of wood start things off mixed in with the balsamic vinegar tartness in the nose. Some notes of green apple skin as well as more vinous tartness and notes. There are some deeper dark fruit notes in the background that can be perceived faintly. Notes of wet tobacco are present as well as those traditional dry leathery aromas. Nice funky notes throughout the middle of the brew.

The flavor starts off with some acidic and vinegary tartness. Vinous mix of sweetness and tartness with some slight dark fruit sweetness in the background that is faint but helps balance the brew. Very funky and musty wood notes follow the initial mouth puckering sourness. As the brew warms the tartness isn't as acidic and seems more fruity (apples and cherries) and melds more with the slight currant flavors. There is some good earthy notes of tobacco mixed in with the wood and very dry leathery notes. The brew is light and of a light-medium body. Very complex but also very sour and acidic. Overall this is a good brew. One that should definitely be shared.

750ml bottle had at the Toronado in San Diego on a recent trip poured into a stemmed glass. I painfully had a bottle of this break in transit after securing one in a trade, so was very happy to finally be able to sample this one.

A - Pours a medium amber color, a bit dirty and a touch cloudy/yeasty/hazy with a touch of red. A thin white head forms briefly and fizzes away quickly to leave a small collar around the edge of the glass.

S - Funky and earthy...barnyard, wet hay, grass. Low tartness, lemony citrus, limes, wine-like aromas with a mix of tannic red and acidic white wine aromas.

T - Quite wine-like on first impression with some cherryish fruitiness, tannins, lots of woody and bitter oak...quite sour/lactic - far more than the aroma indicated. Grapey, citrusy with lemon and lime, funky, earthy and grassy. Lightly phenolic as it warms in the glass.

M - Sour and puckering...mouth watering with every sip. Lightish to medium in body, strongly fizzy carbonation...almost soda-like in feel. Lower level funkiness, acidic and citrusy. Wine and wine barrel character.

O - Very happy to finally try this. Fairly intense sour/wild ale, lower level funk, very acidic and citrusy with welcome wine contributions. Excellent wild ale...didn't totally blow me away, but it is hard to find faults here either. Would definitely recommend seeking this out and giving it a try...I personally would love to have another bottle of this to sample again.

Last Bottle at Monks Cafe, still shooting myself for paying the amount of money i did to try it, but what the hell.

A- The appearance is very nice, one finger egg shell white head, beautiful lacing sticks to the glass, dark brown/ burnt orange color.
S- Very nice aroma, sour/funk upfront, dark fruits are present, plums, raisins, sour lemon.
T- This is delicious, sour funkiness, puckering, lemon notes, dark fruits, plum, currants show as well, oak comes out, reminds me of Consecration in a way, the abv is very hidden, would not know i just drank a 750 ml bottle of an 8% beer on my own.
M- Medium/ big mouthfeel, clean on the palate, dry finish, well carbonated
O- This beer is very satisfying, is it worth the amount of money i paid for it, i would have to say no, but i don't regret paying for it, it was enjoyable and a nice big beer to celebrate returning to America.
